I like to think I'm bringing a rational, objective appraissal of our recent woeful performances.
Personally I hope everything is brilliant next season, but my head says not. I hope I'm proved wrong, and that everything goes well because Hoyle is to be praised for his contibution to the club.

Yes that word rational, we are mid table this season due to having no strikers up front all season. So going by that, if we bring in two proven goalscorers in the summer and perhaps improve the defence, everything points to relegation.
I'd get a patent on that theory.

You base your whole 'argument' around a few recent woeful performances and base our season next season on those few performances. Hardly rational. Like an earlier poster said, on your logic, Aston Villa will be relegated next season.

I'd like to see how we'll get promoted without winning an away game all season!
Seriously it worries me that people think all we need is 2 good strikers and the league is ours. If we were only losing due to missing chances then fair enough.

Malc makes a good point or have the "head in the sand" brigade not noticed that we don't appear in the top half of the table any more!
Surely being a supporter means that you love your club and want it to be succesful....... not languising in the lower leagues forever!

This is such a depressing place at the moment.
I don't think anyone's claiming that we're only two strikers away from promotion. But if we'd had a decent goalscorer this season, you can add up the points that we've blown due to missing chances and we'd still be challenging for a Play Off place. I'm doubtful that we'd have been as bad recently if we'd have had anything to play for, so maybe we'd even have made it into them, who knows?
Fact is, talking of relegation next season during March of the season before is completely and utterly laughable.

I started this thread and a lot of people have misread it. I said quite clearly that I was talking about next season not this. Based on our form of late we will be relegation candidates next year. We have been awful, and I know this because I go to all home and most away games and have done so for 30 years. I'm like any fan, I was hopeful at the start of this season, but am now more realsitic. Sorry if that offends the head in the sand brigade. Hardly had in the sand brigade. I have watched Town since 1980 so I think i'm also fairly well qualified to assess the current regime. Hoyle has publicly stated we WILL SIGN NOT 1 BUT 2 strikers in the summer and A NEW CENTRE BACK and Clark has said he will be bringing players in during the summer. Surely this should be the time to at least attempt a little positivity?? Do you not think that with a striker on just fifteen goals we would be in contention for the TOP 6 now? As i stated in my previous post, if we get relegated next season i will personally buy your season ticket for the next TEN YEARS. This is not putting my head in the sand, it is simply having some optimism that Hoyle et al are determined to get it right and will do all in their power to do so. God, if everyone was as 'positive' as you.......................................................................... Hoyle will do this IF Lee finds the players he wants and more importantly IF the PLAYERS AGREE to come!

You're spot on Uddersfield. You speak for all of us, the form at the moment is precisely that.

I'd like to see how we'll get promoted without winning an away game all season! You can't assume that we won't win away all season just because we haven't done yet under Clark. We've only played 8 away games, and could have easily won 3 of them (two last minute equalisers and a possible winner not allowed against MK Dons), plus we out played Leicester for much of our game there. There have been some poor games, but its not like we're been thrashed every week away from home as we were for a time under Ritchie, and even he managed to turn that round and get a few away wins.

Well i have been to:
Carlisle 0-3 Crewe 1-3 Leicester 2-4 Stockport 1-1 Tranmere 1-3
And we havent been thrashed?
Outplayed Leicester for much of the game? We played well for an hour then completely fell apart, and were lucky in the end to get away with 4.
The performances above were abysmal - exactly the same as under Ritchie or any other recent Town manager.
Yeah, a decent striker and we would be winning all those games 4-3 - int it captain? ;D

I said we'd been poor in some games, and I said we haven't been thrashed in every game. Tell me what I've said that isn't correct?
For me we've been poor in 4 and a little unlucky in 4. Yes its poor form, but with a bit more luck we could have had a couple of wins, and there'd be far less cause for concern.
I'm not arguing that our away form has been dissapointing under Clark, I was arguing that its not been so bad that we shouldn't expect to win away from home next season.

Suppose it is how you define being thrashed. I would say we have been thrashed in the majority of our away games, and that we were no better than under Ritchie.
I remember watching a terrible 2-0 defeat at Crewe at the start of last season, and the 3-1 defeat this season - only to be told that we had made progress on the field.
Dont see it myself like.
I would also argue that our away form is more than disappointing
Fucking horrendous more like! ;D

Of course I don't think we'll go all season without winning away from home. I was trying to highlight how poor our away form is. 2 good strikers will obviously help but there's more that's wrong with the team at the moment.
I don't see it as being unlucky (our away form). Were we lucky to score in the 20th minute at Stockport? When the goal is scored is irrelivant.
Kenmargra-I think it's ridiculous to talk of possible relegation (but paulmat dealt with that). We would have to lose ALL of our remaining games to have any chance of it happening.

The thing is though you get these runs without an away win, I remember going ages in our last promotion season without an away win, and then once one came against Darlington on boxing day we won a few more. I'm sure that will happen with this team, the point I'm trying to make is its not like we look incapable of winning away, we could have won 2 or 3 in amongst some poorer performances. I don't think Lee Clark is incapable of winning away from home. I completely agree that it will take more than 2 strikers to get promotion, but it will certainly help.

What an amazing thread...
Can i just add my 2 penneth, in that I have strong suspicions, based on current form, the global financial situation and our management team, that I believe we're likely to be playing football, somewhere in one of the top 3 divisions by the 2015-2016 season...
And if my prediction is correct, between now and then, we might also have signed a decent striker or two...
I hope I'm right...
