Professional footballer Andrew Booth, who has played for 18 years, in two spells, for his hometown club Huddersfield Town, will receive an Honorary Fellowship. An icon of Huddersfield sport – he is the third highest goal scorer in the history of Town - he has also enjoyed a successful spell in the Premiership with Sheffield Wednesday. www2.hud.ac.uk/news/2009news/03_honorary_award_recipients_2009.php

Good for him. Really don't see the point in these awards myself. Some of the recipients are already professors, one's a doctor and another has an OBE. What could they possibly get out of an honorary award like this?
Maybe i've just had a bad day.

Boothy seems a nice enough guy but I doubt he is any threat to Mensa or NASA.
Completely pointless award - he should be spending the time coaching young Novak or other up and coming players - not mincing about in a gown and cap.

I dont want to put a downer on the man as I know you are all in love with him - but........ Didn't he leave Town to join a semi-local rival in Sheffield Wednesday and only come back when he couldn't make it there?

Jimmythebulldog, in terms of a career move, going to Wednesday (and Spurs, let's not forget) must have been too good to pass.
He's a Huddersfield lad and has given me great memories whilst watching Town.
As pointless as this accolade may seem to some of you, it's actually a way of giving a local lad some credit where it's due. Good on you Boothy.
