This is now becoming irksome for me. Why do our players refuse to use their weaker foot in areas where it should be safe to do so? One moment in particular from Saturday, that I believe wphtafc alludes to in the Smithies thread, was the simple 5 yard pass towards Roberts on the touchline. In an area of the pitch where there was no real Cheltenham player present, he elected to pass with his far-too-favoured left foot, resulting in a flicked effort that was struck on the outside of the left boot. Needless to say it dribbled out of play and possession was conceded once more. It astounds me that certain of our players are incapable of performing this simple act (Roberts himself being a huge culprit), opting instead for the less intelligent option and ultimately, the one more likely to lead to trouble. Clark has to eradicate this fear from the players in order to make our passing and movement more dynamic. If only all of them were as comfortable with the ball as Pilks!

I understand the post isn't just about this one incident but I don't suppose being booed by your own fans really helped in this instance did it? The lad had a penalty saved and is then jeered by the people that are suppose to be supporting him and people expect this to make him improve? It was a simple mistake and what did the fans near me do to pick him back up? They shouted "Get that fat b*****d off Clark, he's s***e. Nice. In the main though I'd agree with you, and I think there are a lot more instances when Town players fail to do the basics and it costs us week in week out. There wasn't anybody in a defensive role on saturday that led by example and took control which is something we have lacked all season and yet again simple errors were punished.

When they started playing George Best, Bobby Charlton & Tom Finney (who were a little bit better than Gary Roberts!) had a "weaker" foot - what did they do but work & practice at improving their skill so that casual observer wouldn't have known which foot they favoured.
I sometimes wonder what these buggers DO all week - they can't seem to find other players on the Town side with their passes, some of them don't look particularly fit & the skill levels are such that they accept having a "weak" foot. I suggest that if the normal man in the street carried out his job in such a limited manner he would soon be joining the dole queue
