Looking at the 5 to be offered pro deals, there's not a striker among them. Which means that I can only name 2 that it's produced - Stead and Broadbent (McAliskey doesn't count). It must have produced 15-20 defenders to join the first team squad in that team. I wonder why this is...
BTW the 5 players are Spencer Harris (CB), Leigh Franks (CB), Jack Hunt (RB, RM), Liam Ridehalgh (LB, CB) and Lewis Nightingale (CM)

Because unless you're VERY special, you're going to find it very difficult to break into a club in the striking position you almost need to be the finished article and its difficult to risk more than the odd 10 mins here and there at the end of a game...whereas its easier to 'carry' players in other positions to assist their transition to the professional game?

Spot on. Strikers are immediately judged on whether they are scoring or not, players in other parts of the team are given a bit more time to find their feet. I also don't see how Broadbent counts if McAliskey doesn't. He went into the first team at 18 and scored crucial goals. Danny might make it, but he certainly hasn't yet.

They haven't officially released Jimmy Spencer, who did his cruciate ligament earlier in the season. Apparently Man City made a cash bid for him a couple of years ago. I wonder if they are waiting to see how well he recovers before deciding, he is a striker and was obviously very highly rated.

Agree with alot of the earlier posts re judgment of strikers but it is no coincidence that most of the players in the league from this area who are not with town are actually strikers - jerome, folan, campbell to name 3. I think the next couple of seasons will be v interesting re the academy - it has done an ok job thus far, but i do think it needs to do more in bringing through a more balanced group of players who encompass all the requirements of success - i.e. pace, power, ability to beat a man etc to go with the technical ability to pass, control and stay in a compact shape which have featured in recent seasons.

Seen Heagney play in the reserves a couple of times - he looked too lightweight in my opinion. Then again, I've not got much to judge him on.

Isn't he developing at Leeds though No, this is Mr Shawsie's attempt at humour!! Pray tell me mr midge - where did your son go on the sat after xmas when you could have been watching town at home - yes thats correct leeds united academy for a trial / kids competition!!! Thereafter, has he or not attended the wetherby odeon of nightmares and been contacted by the smellies about an extended stay?? Once is hard to swallow - more than is sacrilege and you should say 1000 "hail smellies" as punishment!!!!
