Okay Lee Clark wants 24 players next season, quality not quantity.
The interviews re the 5 academy lads who got offered new contracts suggest they’re not expected to be ready for the first team for 12 months. So let’s not include them in LC’s 24 of quality
To my mind the following will definitely be here come pre-season training (assumes new deals agreed for DC and AH)
Smithies (new contract signed 2009) Eastwood (new contract signed 2009)
Holdsworth (new contract signed 2009?) Nathan Clarke (new contract signed 2009) Tom Clarke (new contract signed 2009) Skarz (LC says he remains in his thinking)
Ainsworth (new contract signed 2009) Cadamarteri (new contract signed 2009) Pilkington (new contract signed 2009) Roberts (new contract offered in 2009) Collins (new contract offered in 2009) Berrett (new contract offered in 2009)
Novak (new contract signed 2009)
That’s 13 I expect to remain.
Others I would imagine are safe
Butler – ever present under LC, very dependable at this level. Good and proven Willliams – ever present under LC and received praise for upping game and pushing off the threat of Werling
Takes us to 15 pros, only one of which is a striker (and he’s never played League Football before)
Assuming we can get rid of the other contracted dead wood I reckon we’ll sign NINE this summer
Off if suitor can be found (in terms of priority)
Lucketti, Parker, Craney, Jevons, Denton, Flynn and I reckon Goodwin (7)
Off because they’re out of contract or retiring
Legend, Worthy, Kamara, Werling, Codman and I guess Broadbent (personally I think he should be retained, especially now Booth has retired and Heagney hasn’t been offered a pro contract, we look very light on strikers and DB may be worth a punt)
Two have already been paid up, Killock and Unsworth
Could be a very busy summer, with as many as 15 players leaving since the start of 2009 and twelve new signings (13 if you include Werling)!

I don't think we'll look to move Goodwin on. I don't see him as being first choice and expect us to sign a new defensive midfielder, but if they were going to move him on I think theyd have offered Worthy a 1 year deal.
Parker will go as clubs will want him but I can see us being stuck with 2 or 3 of lucketti, Flynn, Craney and Jevons so with the money they're on, especially Lucketti, that will probably effect your 9 coming in.

Goodwin has been pretty much ever present since Clark came here, I can't see any reason why he would be moved on either. I also suspect that Flynn may have done enough for Clark to want to keep him. We do have too many midfielders though and James Berrett can't even making the bench at the moment. Other than that I agree with the rest. Good managers have to be ruthless.

Lucketti's contract has also been paid up! he is no longer at the club. Unsworth? Or has Lucketti been given the same treatment? Smithies, Eastwood, Holdsworth, Williams, Clarke (x2), Butler, Skarz, Goodwin, Berrett, Collins, Flynn, Pilkington, Roberts, Cadamarteri, Ainsworth, Novak. That is 17 I imagine he wouldn't mind keeping (16 if you take or leave Flynn). Add the 5 graduates to that and it is 21/22 with the remaining places being signings. Possibly.

I agree Goodwin will most likely stay but if someone came in for him I wouldn’t be surprised if we let him leave, probably harsh to have him on the out list because you could apply the same rationale to Butler and Williams. That said Clark has never gushed praise on JG and he certainly has on Williams (not sure about Butler)
Maybe Flynn will be here, I’ve heard that he’s really been trying in training and as a result impressed with his effort, so while I may be a critic and think the lad is not good enough ability wise I’m prepared to give the guy credit.
We are though so short strikers now, if we only sign four players then literally they ALL have to be strikers!

I would imagine us getting 6/7 players this summer.
Right Back 1 or 2 Centre Backs Centre Midfielder 2 or 3 Strikers.
And i have been saying this since January ;D

I think 4/5 quality signings overall with maybe a couple from academy to shine?

We won't sign Tehoue. He was only ever a last minute, all other options have fallen through, signing anyway. They had a look at him for 3 weeks, then left it until the last minute of the january window to sign him. Plus i doubt they'll exactly be jumping at the chance to work with him or his agent again. Like stevvy says, swap another striker for Tehoue and I reckon you're spot on, though I still think they'll try and offload Flynn, even if Clark has been impressed with his effort.

So, it's somewhere between 5 and 9 signings, including a whole new strikeforce. Let's hope Lee buys some quick setting gel in a big family sized pack, becuase we all know how much of the stuff Stan needed and look where that got him. Surely lightning can't strike twice - we were in the same position last summer weren't we - new manager, money to spend. I must admit, this is rather tongue in cheek as I have so much more confidence in our management team this time around. UTT

Nine optimistic - 4/5 nearer the mark - the 5 stepping up from the academy are supposedly to be ready for the first team within 6 months and possibly to be included in the 24 / 25?. But it will be 4/5 of quality more like 12 months by the sounds of it-they wouldn't be included in the 24/25 as he needs quality players that are 100% ready to play now and will be of a good quality, not a few players that aren't ready yet and won't be for another 6-12 months

Would think that Danny Graham could be in the squad next season. Only going by what's been said on here mind but quite a lot has been said.

If we end up getting a really good quality CB and then get Kelly in at RB for a season loan it makes the LB position a bit weak to me - only Skarz and Williams to realistically cover that position? they are OK players (Williams in particular has improved as the season went on) but for a serious promotion challenge we need to shore up the defence and I'd liked to have seen another better quality LB come in instead of either JS or RW.

I think the difference this time mate will be that only 3 or 4 of the new signings will actually make it into the starting line up from the start. The rest will be squad players that will have to force their way into the team. So not much 'gel' would be required

Think we need a big signing as early as possible in order for other targets to see what is going on here... and to follow suit.

A lot of people seem to blame Tehoue or his agent for the debacle, BUT it could quite easily have been nothing to do with them at all. I can well imagine that his Turkish club gave him permission to trial at Town, probably giving him and his agent the impression that they'd free him to move. When Town became interested, Tehoue's club saw the Lira signs and thought they could make a bit of money afterall. They then demand a fee, which would have come as a surprise to the big man and his agent. All of that is just as plausible as blaming either Tehoue or his agent. So, I don't think we should be saying that he shouldn't be signed because he's messed us about - it may be nothing to do with him at all. I bet he just wanted to play football. He could quite easily have a part to play here.

With agents as they are, its more likely him that is trying it on. Either way, the fact theres this confusion at all where his club in Turkey don't want him or really care where he is ( until they thought they could get some money) kind of points to him not being the standard we are looking for, when you also consider that he has spent his whole career so far being rejected by one backwater club in some minor European league after another. Even in that video, appart from one hit and hope thrash that flew in but could just as easily landed in row Z, I thought he looked pretty rubbish to be honest, cocking up one chance after another and another. Clark saw him for weeks. If he was any good he wouldn't have waited until the last minute of the last day to sign him, as it was clearly a case of Tehoue or nothing.

suprised that some are saying they expect us to try offload flynny in the summer, in that ever so looonnngggg interview regarding contracts, he basically says hes not having players who dont put the effort and time in, ie werling, but he has plenty of time for those willing to put there lives on the line (granted, slight overexagerration) and with his comments towards flynn, on top of his recent impressive performances + assists, i think we'll be keeping him, even if he will mainly be a bench player- he comes in handy, if it wasnt for his crosses we'd have 2 points from the last 2 games, not 6!
