Town boss Lee Clark has heralded the contribution that striker Andy Booth has made to the football club in the aftermath of the 2-2 draw at home to Brighton this afternoon.
Today's game featured Booth's last game on Huddersfield soil and Clark told htafc.com that he would have loved for the side to have gained all three points in tribute to the 35-year old forward.
"I don't think the occasion got to the man in question - he performed like a true professional, just as we would expect," Lee said of Boothy. "That is why he's had such an outstanding career and why he has the reputation he has - he has been a terrific pro and is a terrific human being. It is just a shame that we could not give him a day to remember in terms of a winning result.
"Of course we were all happy when he scored - I would have loved him to get a hat-trick! Their 'keeper made a great save from him right at the end which would have made it 3-2 and would have made the day that bit more special. I could have taken him off the pitch earlier if he had scored that one too, but we are trying to be right and proper in what we do and we were trying to win the game for all the other clubs down at the bottom of the division.
"At the end of the day, we were acknowledging a fantastic man and someone who has made a fantastic contribution to this football club and as such, today was always going to be a little bit different.
"Andy is the man in form and he will be the first name on the team-sheet next Saturday; he has got four goals in three games!"
Clark was also happy with the performance of his side against the Seagulls - apart from the two sloppy goals he saw his side concede.
"At times I thought we played some excellent stuff and the second goal epitomised that. We created some other terrific chances and should have had the game wrapped up before they scored their first goal, but I was disappointed in the manner that we conceded the two goals. I felt they summed up why our season finishes next weekend; to be in the Play-Offs, you cannot give away goals like that and we should not need to score three goals to win football matches at home.
"We have conceded two goals from set-pieces and we have to start policing ourselves out on the football pitch. I have told them that the priority on defending set-pieces is keeping the ball out of our own goal - not trying to hit the opposition on the counter-attack. People haven't done their jobs, which is something we have to eradicate.
"I want the players to keep the ball on the floor - I played that way myself and I am not a hypocrite. I don't want my team banging the ball aimlessly forward, but I don't mind good long passes as I was partial to one or two of them myself. That is another thing we have to work on.
"The players also have to handle the expectation level of big home crowds. I have stated that I want to raise the standards here next season and I need players who can handle that pressure - the pressure of being at the top and contending at the right end of the League in front of big crowds. If they make a mistake, I want them to go and get the ball again because at the end of the day if you keep being brave like that, something good will come of it."
The Town manager also made special mention of two of his players - Liverpool loanee Martin Kelly and Michael Collins.
"Martin had a good game today; he is a very good player. We will do everything in our power to get him in a Huddersfield Town shirt next season - we will pressurise the player, Liverpool and the Club to get him here on loan or in some other way. Our squad next season will definitely be a better one with him in it.
"For Michael to be in double figures this season is a great return. We have got 37 goals from all the midfielders this season and it is just as well - otherwise the Club might be going down. Boothy scored his 7th goal of the season today, which puts him one ahead of Liam Dickinson in terms of strikers. I've never even laid eyes on Liam Dickinson, but those two have scored 13 of the 19 goals that strikers have managed this season and there lies our problem.
"I have my targets and I know where I want the Club to go. I just hope people carry on buying birthday cards and different types of greeting stuff from the Card Factory over the summer!"
