Thursday 29th Nov 1973 one Ryan Joseph Giggs is born. Exactly one week later, the very next Thursday in fact, one Andrew David Booth is born.
Its a good week for future footballers.
Scroll forward some 35 plus years and on Saturday 25th April 2009 the above said Andy Booth scores his final home goal for Huddersfield Town. The following day Ryan Giggs is voted PFA player of the year.
What can one say..........................................but
Boothy.....Boothy......Boothy................

One can say that it's one of the biggest farces in the history of the Premier League that Giggs has won this award.

Im a big fan of Giggs, as a player and a bloke, but him winning this award this season is a farce. 12 league starts and 1 goal. His performances shouldn't even get him in the top 40 really.

No offence but even comparing Boothy to Giggs is the farce!
One has one European Cups, Premierships and FA Cups - and one has been relegated numerous times and got promoted through the playoffs.
Go on - hand out the unrealistic blinkered abuse!

Giggs getting the award was the joke.
He's played 12 premier league games this season - yet has won the award!!!!
Also look at the premier league team of the season - did Fergie pick that himself.
What a joke decision which reduces my interest in the premiershit even more

Go on - hand out the unrealistic blinkered abuse! 2 times relegated isn't numerous, numerous would be 4-5 times (hes also been promoted twice) and hes only really comparing them in the respect that they were born within a week of each other, and within a week of each other 35yrs later have effectively been 'honoured' (in different ways, giggs for this season though don't know why, boothy for his commitment, effort, desire, passion etc for town and scoring his final home goal) hes not actually implying that booth is an international class player who could've been like giggs, just comparing them given both have effectively reached important points in their career in different ways, and within a week of each other, just cos they were born within a week of each other-nothing more than that

Go on - hand out the unrealistic blinkered abuse! Not really going to throw any abuse at you, nor am I really going to acknowledge your post as you as a poster offer nothing, but negative comments about Boothy, most of which absolutely stuns me to be perfectly honest. Perhaps living in the US you are aware of the amount of respect, love and sheer admiration we the people of Huddersfield have for Boothy. I mean that's be my only guess as to why you think the way you do about him. If ever there was one man I would defend to the death, it would be Boothy as he has shown countless times his professionalism, commitment, determination, loyalty, pride, passion, the list goes on! In fact, had Manchester United has not been at the top all through Giggs' career with the Red Devils, do you honestly see him doing what Boothy did with Town? Sticking by the club even after 2 relegations in 3 years and not being paid for 10 months?! So I don't think comparing the two is a farce at all in terms of status with their respective football clubs. Now if you were comparing them in terms of ability then yes that would be farcical.

Boothys job has been harder in many ways, he also played at the top level and still scored and played with people like carbone and di canio at wendies.... people who knock him are either very insecure or absolute idiots. He then decided to come back to his home town club when really he could have had a pick due to his excellent goal scoring record. No, Im afraid Boothy is every bit as much a legend as Mr Giggs !

Thursday 29th Nov 1973 one Ryan Joseph Giggs is born. He was born Wilson, became Giggs after a huge problem with his dad. He was still Wilson upto being a schoolboy international. Sorry to be so pedantic. Giggsy is one of my footballing hero's.

In one sense it's a bit of a farce, but personally it doesn't really bother me, I think over his career he deserves the recognition.
I know that's not what the award is for, and this is out of sentiment, but I think it's pretty fitting.

If the vote is in January and the award is called Player of the Year not Player of the Season, then maybe the award is for what he did between January and December 2008?

I'm delighted he won the award. Giggs has been excellent this season in a more central role. I'm sure many will debate it was deserved Vs. recognision. However, as a model pro he fully deserves the award.
I did actually think Stevie G would win it with the United votes being split.
Talking of legends, the event yesterday afternoon was a good laugh and although initially I only went as Chaz had nattered none stop about going, it was a light hearted fun afternoon and I'm sure the other 400 odd who went also agree.

The PFa award is for the 12 monthe Jan to Dec, so the "12 starts" is not really a factor in this

No offence but even comparing Boothy to Giggs is the farce! No-one DID compare them. He was just saying they were born within a week of each other. Comparing The Legend with that little English/welsh turn coat hairy little posing rat is an insult to Boothy.

Give him a contribution to football award or something like that but for him to even be nominated was a joke. Great player but to give the award to a player who hardly makes the starting 11 is ridiculous. Titus Bramble has done more this season to deserve the award than Giggs, and thats saying something.

Agreed. All Giggsy has done this season is score 1 good goal against West Ham. Seriously.. what has he achieved this season? He hasn't put 4 past Liverpool in 1 game.. Or Keep a record of clean sheets in the prem. It's an utter joke.

Spot on, it's a sentimental award, and at the end of the day, do people really see these acolades as the be all and end all? He is being recognised for what he has done over his entire career, not just this season.

I dont think people seem to grasp the term "Player of the YEAR" The award is given for what happens between the years 2008-2009. Not in Footballing seasons. If your going to moan about it, then at least know what you are moaning about
