Barcelona: Got to admit, they are a Quality Side and some of the football they played tonight was dazzling.
BUT
Their Fans: Anyone else think they are a spoilt bunch of tossers. Every time one of their players was tackled they were out of their seats jeering for a free kick, all it took was one of their players to dive and they calling for the head of whoever was nearest to him. Every time the Chelsea got a free kick the acted as though they were been hard done by, Though some of them were going to end up Topping themselves if they didn't score/win.
And Finally Dani Alves: What a Diving/Cheating horrible player!!!
TTID!!!

"Every time one of their players was tackled they were out of their seats jeering for a free kick"
Isn't that the same in every ground in the world?

They are a different type of fan to the rest of europe. Probably because they don't really have away fans in spain. At least not in any great numbers or specific areas, so they don't have any culture of singing as such. When I was there there were 70,000+ in the place and the only chant the entire time was that official 'Barca, Barca,Barca' thing they do at the start and end. Its a different atmosphere in Spain. Basically just 90 minutes of whinging and moaning at the ref, broken up by the odd ,quite reserved, goal celebration.
See Chelsea sent back 2000 tickets! For a CL semi in the Nou Camp! I know times are hard for a lot of people but thats amazing. I reckon ( and this is stretching reality somewhat!) we'd take 15,000+ to barcelona for a semi final given the chance. ;D

I thought Barcelona played some lovely football but didn't have too many ideas when they eventually got to just in front of the Chelsea defence. They tried walking the ball into the goal at times.
I think Dani Alves is possibly the most overrated player on the planet - he can't cross, he dives and tries to get opponents in trouble, he isn't a good defender (not that he needs to be solid all the time as Barca are usually attacking). A MASSIVE WASTE OF MONEY.
I think that is the way the fans in Spain react as their game isn't very physical.
The game was poor and I wish I hadn't bothered to watch it.

Laying out about £300 without the guarantee of a ticket or a refund if unsuccessful. All to have a chance of watching the first half of the tie from a position in the ground where it is nigh on impossible to see which player is on the ball. Added to the fact that their were only 2 "day-trip" flights (about 400 seats) and it's not long since they were there before, may explain the apparent lack of interest.

Barcelona, Real Madrid, Chelsea, Man Utd - their fans are all the same - and you used the right word - SPOILT!
With a huge sense of entitlement - the US is full of fans (or is it supporters but thats another argument right?) who support the glamour clubs.
I actually thought a lot about it yesterday when listening to the 606 podcast here in New York which is one of my main ways of staying in touch with home (please some Town fans call in!) - listening to all the Man Utd and Liverpool fans mouthing off about bad refeering decisions.
What must it be like to be so spoilt by success all the time? Would it dilute your support always winning? I'd rather be a Town fan who has to suffer 70% of the time!

But then they do have a very large British following, who make theirselves known. Think they may be the only team who has a big away following, except for Madrid who have a pena [fan club/bar] in every village in Southern Spain! They also play in Blue and White stripes so its like being at home. Found myself regularly shouting'COME ON TOWN' Much to the amusement of the Spanish around me

I was in Spain last summer (Murcia) when the Euro 2008 final was on. It was quite strange, they didn't really seem that bothered at all. A few shouts when they scored but as soon as the match was finished everyone just carried on as though nothing had happened.
They were pretty similar to us up until then in that they hadn't won chuff all in years so I found it a bit weird. Imagine the scenes here if we won the Euro/World Cup.

the commentator wouldn't shut up about how amazing the atmos was! sounded pretty dull to me for 97,000!
IMO, there's only south america that can compete with english fans for passion and atmos.
p.s I'm sure I heard whistling at the final whistle. absolute disgrace!!!!

Im not 100% sure on this, but i dont think nationalism / patriotism is particularly strong in Mercia, just like many areas of Spain. Essentially, there are many groups that want to break away from Spain esp the Catalonians and the Basques, and this trend is extending to other areas of Spain increasingly. On the issue of the Barca fans' whinging then i would have to agree (i know all clubs have their moaners and groaners, but the booing they made last night over everything was ridiculous). I also thought the way many of their players conducted themselves was appaling (and we have seen examples of this b4, when they played at Chelsea a few years back and against Man Utd). Also i had to laugh at the fact that the so called 'best team in Europe' with their army of hyperbolic eulogisers in the media and teenagers who seem to rate players according to what the media and football manager games say they are (despite the fact that none of them actually watch Barca every week and never actually go to watch them play live. Despite all this hype, Barca looked good but no where near what everyone though. All this talk of Barca destroying Chelsea transpired into more idle chit chat, and if Chelsea had attacked that dodgy Barca defense things might have been different. Anyway, rant over. It was just nice to see Barca fail to deliver once again.

To understand that you need to understand Spain. They don't have the same sense of nationality that we do. They recognise themselves as being from their region not Spain per se. Whether that be Basque, Catalan or wherever the only fans that truely get behind the Spanish national team are the supporters in the Madrid area. Everyone outside of Madrid has an interest for but not a passion for the national team. Spain is a very divided country culturally.

Its a reet can of worms, Spain is actually divided into 17 autonomous regions all with most of them fiercely proud of the area and some having their own language, at a conference in Madrid in 1996 with delegates from all the region present they had to employ 11 interpreters because although they could all speak Castillian (normal Spanish) all the delegates insisted on speaking in their own regional tome, ie Valenciano,Basque,Gallego,Catalan,Euskadi,Asturian Spain, its an Enigma Right thats enough sensible stuff, Wahey hands up who's getting trashed in Oriento UTT

The best atmosphere by a long long way Ive ever been in was in Italy for a Milan Juve game. Most italian games though must be like being at a wake.
