Got into them with 'Aha Shake Heartbreak', so unlike your good self, I really like this album. Then immediately I had the joy of being able to buy their first 'Youth and young Manhood' which felt rougher and less polished but equally brilliant and ultimately more so. 'Because of the Times' initially disappointed, but grew on me eventually, especially after hearing lots of it played live. However, I have to disagree with Lionel and say 'Only by the Night' is my favourite. An instant classic. I think the bigger, more arena like sound isn't to everyone's taste but I think they have moved into that area seamlessly without leaving their early stuff behind. They are the complete package... head and shoulders the best band around. 1. Only by the Night 2. Youth and Young Manhood 3. Aha Shake Heartbreak 4. Because of the times It's not often I get to claim this but I'm proud to say that I've followed Kings of Leon right from the very start ;D Am some way off 'super fan' status but remember buying Youth and Young Manhood on a whim, loving it and trying to get all my friends into it only to be met with 'Kings of... who?' ;D

I didn't buy it for myself though until Aha Shake came out and I've had both Because of the Times and Only by the Night before they were released through leaks but still bought them. Been to see them live 3 times and they were great each time - they demo'd Because of the Times at 1 of the gigs I went to and I knew it was gonna be great then.

Only by the Night is the worst album in my opinion. A couple of good obvious tracks but lacks the depth of the others. I would go: 1. Because of the times 2. Youth and Young Manhood 3. Ah Ha Shake Heartbreak 4. Only By The Night Been the best band in the world for the last two years, and possibly since they released Ah Ha Shake Heartbreak in 2004. I'd go along with that. Only By The Night is the biggest dissapointment of an album i've bought since Queens of the Stone Age's 'Era Vulgaris.

The rest I could leave. Best KOL song is probably Knocked Up... although their albums are full of tunes. Only by the night: No 4. Use Somebody No10. Be Somebody Good songs IMO ;D

Ah Ha Shake Heartbreak and Youth & Young Manhood were my first purchase, bought together in a very good 5 Pound HMV deal, so they got me into the bad. I do, prefer these eealier rough edged sounds, rather than the stadium ballod rock that they ave recently been producing. ALthough some of the new songs are still top class, and they were awesome live couple of months ago. I'd go for - Ah Ha Shake Heartbreak Youth & Young Manhood Because of the Times Only by the Night.
