Without a railcard you can get to Southend for £25. Mmmm, seems reasonable. How much in advance do you have to buy the ticket?? *****************edit for typo***************

The train is straightforward - down to KX then to Liverpool St and to Southend from there.
I would start looking now...

More expensive to go via KingsX. £25 is via Piccadilly and Euston, getting to Southend at 10:30 or 12:10.

If you search for Hudds to Manc return and Manc to Sarfend Vic return you'll get a price of £40. You need three £5 discount codes to get it down to £25, see www.fgw5pounds.co.uk for more info.

Nope, one discount code per email address. Any one person can have as many codes as they want, I must have received and used at least 20, if not more.

Best off getting off next stop at Southend Victoria where there'll be a few pubs, then get the train back to Prittlewell after 2.

Eye, am game - its become a bit of a tradition to go to first game of season irrespective of where it is (a la Gillingham by coach a few seasons ago) but we'll let the train take the strain eh??

When we went there last season they wouldnt let us in any pubs only home fans. But there is a spechial pub for away fans but it was shut when we went typical.

Make sure you look for the 6:35, 6:55, 8:15, 8:35, or 8:55 from Manchester Piccadilly to Southend Victoria and the 17:06 from Southend Victoria to Manchester Piccadilly.

17:06? Little bit tight after the game isn't it? I remember the station being about a 10 minute walk away.

It's a 5 minute walk to Prittlewell, and the train gets there at 17:08, which should be enough time.
