Here's a tricky question... If you were the manager of an opposition team who would you pick out as our dangerman, or who would you have players double up on???
For me I just can't see how they can, we are genuinely building a team full of strong individuals who can affect games. There isn't one team in this league who doesn't have at least one position which isn't weak and no matter who we play I feel we will have someone there to exploit theirs, and if they try to double up on their weaknesses or our dangermen they will just legs gaps for us to exploit
;D
Happy days! (jut need right back sorted)

I'd say Pilkington and Collins based on last season.

If we sign another quality striker a la Lambert we potentially have a side capable of scoring over 100 goals next season
I mean Lambert bagged about c.28 last term
The midfield of Collins, Kay, Roberts and Pilks got 40 between them last year in this league
And with Peter Clarke and Williams I would expect ten goals from our defence.
Simpson and Novak are unknown quantities.
Actually thinking about it, anyone know how I can get odds on Town scoring 100 goals next season? I guess this will be a "special" bet but which bookie would lay it?

only danger man i would say is pilkington. hes the one to watch! as for weaknesses. we all know our back line was our weakness for years. last season it was our strike force. but know we are getting in the right people i think we could be more solid than any team in this league!
its going to be an interesting pre season like. i wanna know what formation will be deployed this season.
id like to see 3-5-2 myself as i think clarke clarke butler would work really well. williams left wing back that could be pulled into a back 4.
have to say though its a big step for novak but i got a feeling about this lad, hes going to bring goals

Still feel we are susceptible in both full back positions. The right berth, for obvious reasons. And whilst Robbie's much improved, he doesn't fill me with total confidence defensively.
I'd buy two full backs and ask Robbie to work even harder in order to earn his place.

I'd buy two full backs and ask Robbie to work even harder in order to earn his place. If we could get Kelly then he'd be more than capable of filling in at left back as well. Kelly and a right back would be ideal for me, but I think the Kelly signing is looking less and less likely.

I'd like to see both too. I do however feel that skarz will get his chance this season.

Pilkington is definately a main threat. Plus Roberts if he can get back his form from the first few months of last season

Roberts and Pilkington.
Roberts faded last year but his record was still very good - 11 goals and 14 assists. I think he will be better this season as we now have people to win the ball back and also he isn't our only focal point going forward.

I remember in previous season we had very few players who could beat a man and create goals out of nothing. I think Schofield was one of them and Holdsworth playing in midfield was another.
Now we've Pilkington, Ainsworth (hopefully) and two strong central midfielders. Hopefully Simpson and Novak get get a few between them, anything over 20 would be a bonus. Nathan Clarke always chips in with 3 or 4 and hopefully the same can be said for Peter Clarke.
I think we've alot more threatening this year, so teams won't be able to double up on players like Pilkngton thus giving him more time and space.

Pilkington and Roberts i would be wary of: If the opposition can stop them playing we might struggle....Get stuck into Collins in central midfield. Attack both fullbacks (unless we sign a decent RB then i would focus on Williams) Then i would rough up Nathan Clarke, and we are still very susceptible to pace at the back (Williams/Butler/NC/Clarke) - none of them quick...so plenty of balls over the top / between the two CBs... Smithies still looks suspect at crosses, so try exploit this also... Easy!

Lucketti and Jevons - just to throw any scouts lurking around off track

I think the same can be said for Roberts, although his drop in form is apparently because he had a new born baby after Christmas. What certainly didn't help Was the fact that all the teams got wise to him being a threat and doubled up on him, that won't be able to happen this year as they will be spread out marking pilks, kay, Collins and the two strikers. I really see the team being able to open up others in this way.
Kleverboy in response I feel that as skarz matures he should develop the solid defendin needed, but currently his main attribute for me and the reason he should be included is his pace and crossing ability, he also overlaps well, something Clark has said he wants his players to do.
I've already mentioned this on another thread but i'd quite like, the RB Whing from Brighton, he's available on a free and was their POTS.

Skarz and pace don't belong in the same sentence. Unless the sentence is 'One thing Joe Skarz definitely lacks is pace'. I think that is the main reason he won't make it above this league as a player.

its not his pace in general i was referring to, i put it wrong, what i mean is his ability to beat men on the overlap, he seems to have that great ability to get past men without being benefitted by blinding pace.

Not sure Skarz is equipped to take us to the next level either. He's a decent player... but not enough steel. Don't think he'd still be at Town if that was the case- given what Clark has said about what he wants in his squad All good luck to the lad. I've said he's a decent player and Lee Clark's judgement is far better than mine. But steely he is not!
