They were mentioned lower down and I started thinking.
What are your favourite 'Paper Lad' experiences?
I delivered the Zaminer up Yew Tree Road, Birchencliffe, in the seventies. They were filming an episode of, 'Last of the Summer Wine' up there. Compo had gone to see a relative in Wales, which is where Yew Tree came in.
I reckon I could deliver 50% of the papers to the correct addresses, even now; they are so etched on my brain.
I got £1 a week, but spent most of it sweets before pay day.
Is Laws' paper shop still on Halifax Road BTW.

I used to have a paper round in Denby Dale. Favourite 'paper lad' experience is when the Examiner came and took a pic of me delivering the paper in the snow. I had my Town on naturally :-)

I used to do the weekly news round and used to walk straight down to the tip and put all the papers in the recycling container and got away with it for 3 months. Who reads that tosh anyway its just full of adverts.

Used to 'deliver' one of the free papers around mirfield, was it the Spenborough Advertiser or something?
When I say 'deliver', I actually mean, burn in my dads garden incinerator before he came home from work.
Life was so much easier back then.

I had two rounds (probably why I look the way I do today cos they were hard rounds ;D ;D), morning & evening ones but Fridays were the worst as the local paper went out along with the dailie's.
Had to leave Leeds Road a match or two early on saturdays as I worked saturdays as well. I'd just been taking part in a schools half time penalty shoot out competition on one of em.
Winter's brought a whole new meaning to the world cold for me. Had to rush around my round one tuesday night in 2 to 3 ft of snow so could catch bus to Leeds in time to see The Police @ Queens Hall.
One paper round will kill me today, hahahaha.

I used to have an arrangement with the local Dixon's ice cream van (Dave, in case anyone was wondering). Used to swap an Examiner for a 99 or fiesta tub. Happy days - though on reflection curvature of the spine due to tonnes of papers wasn't worth the £3.50 a week ;D

I used to do a morning paper round in Marsden. They asked me to do 8 paper rounds one morning and said they would pay me £40, but they paid me £15! Their excuse, people were complaining because their papers had turned up late!!!

I used to do the Weekly News too for a few months in the early 80's, except I dumped them in the woods (I'm sure recycling bins weren't even invented back then?)

Lodgey, Laws shut a few years back and has become a house. I remember the film crew up Yew Tree rd and was sat on the wall for most of the time but never got on tv! BTW, I went to a school reunion the other week with Guy T and Chris (Jack) Dyson. Was good to see people again after 30yrs, well what I remember of it. We went out early and had a load to drink and the three of us fell asleep at the bar later on. "So, Johnny, what you been doing for the last 30yrs?" "Errrrrrrrr, well errrrrrrrr, made it as far as Marsh"

We were always counting down the weeks until the "massive" crimbo bonuses were due. I never see kids doing paper rounds anymore anyway.

As soon as I turned 18 I thought I'd get a part time bar job (as you do) and I ended up working at the Littlejohn in Bradley. It was only partly demolished at the time. Eye opener .

Haha keldregate, my old neck of the woods. When I first moved to Bradley in 1990 the little john was a respectable pub believe it or not!

Almondbury for me, posh end, 30+ papers but a very long walk between houses!!! Was that the Sharp Lane/Lumb Lane route ?, I used to refuse to do that as an extra as you needed a bike to get between houses, plus it seemed scary when dark in winter. I used to do the Dartmouth Avenue morning route. The problem was that the bag was so heavy, as they were all Times, Observer or Telegraph readers. I sometimes had to leave half the content at the shop and return for the other half later ;D The Sunday round wasn't bad as you got virtually the same as for a full week. Had a spell doing the Weekly News, but as others have said, the leaflets were a pain. I used to dread the Sierra estate arriving on a Monday afternoon with that lot, and only did teh round for a few months. I never did the Examiner afternoon/evening round, as it would have got in the way of going to the Town games. ;D

i did the examiner road in Moldgreen for about 3 weeks, started middle of July and quit when they said i had to do my round @3pm on saturdays!!
I then did Weekly News for 3 years in Dalton, had to trek up Coniston Avenue with over 200 papers, i soon realised the trick was to get my dad to drop me off at the top and then work my way down the hill and all the surrounding roads,
