Simpson for rumoured 500k including all add ons. Clarke on a free. Kay on a free.
I know they're all good players, and probably on a good salary - but I thought we were spending millions this summer window?
Those are 2 talented signings on the cheap - thought we were joining the big spenders! Cant see there being too many more coming in, maybe a couple at best - will we break the bank for them?
I'll take the free transfers gladly - just thought we were going to do a bit more poaching not just signing free agents.

I think we would have paid for them, but they are free so it's a bonus really. Also, dont think we are anywhere near finished yet.

Millions? Nah maybe a million.....maybe even one and a half million if the right deals came along......but we arent a championship team! Luckily, in Clarke and Kay we have signed 2 players that should have cost us a fair bit of money (if contract wasn't expired), so we have done very well. I'de hope we save a few hundred thousand for January - just in case anything happens.

I wouldn't be surprised to see us get one or two loan deals sorted...

Wages - I agree, be interesting to know where Clarke, Kay and Simpspon would rate compared to an average Championship salary - I would guess they are right up there.
And saving for January - hadn't enev thought that far ahead! But maybe some will be left in the coffers now we have the two free transfers.

The fact that we are spending money at all should please you.
Millions??? I don't think I'd be comfortable with this in the current financial climate, especially with the lack of revenue we bring in to fund it all should things go pear shaped

Hefty signing on fees? A fee which could rise upto half a million. We're a league one club not Championship/Premier League.

That was all the excitement on this board a few months ago - we're not spending his money at all now - unless he's funding the wages of course. And we all know we're a League 1 club (why do people feel the need to point out the bleeding obvious!) This is a discussion point people not an argument - some on this forum feel the need to get all angry at any discussion! No need to get all feisty about it - DISCUSS not ARGUE!!!!

Simpson was on quite a poor wage at Coventry by championship standards. We have probably offered him a bit more but i doubt its more than 2.5k

Hoyle is a wealthy guy but everyone knows he doesn't have 'silly' money.. he has invested a lot already and there will still be money to come - but its not a bottomless pit. We don't need to spend a lot to get out of this league, the signings just need to be good - look at Peterborough - and so far they have been. The excitement on the board is because he is a TOWN FAN - with money to invest, sure.

Fact is you don't have to spend a lot of money on transfer fees to get good players these days. Pre-Bosman Kay and Clarke would have probably cost us £500,000 each. At the end of the day it doesn't really matter what we pay for players as long as we get quality - and given that Kay and Clarke were Tranmere and Southends best players I don't think there's any argument that we're signing quality this time.

I agree completely - signing their players of the year is a real coup. I would happily take a couple more free transfers like these and pay them more - I never understand the silly transfer fee system. It simply doesn't happen here in the USA - the headlines about the Ronaldo fee have been crazy over here - it's all about the contract and the salary to the individual in America - not exchanging money between clubs.

I don't think many expected us to be spending millions. I certainly didn't, and wouldn't really want us too.

The wage bill was far more than the income last season ( Hoyle funded that), and now (SO FAR) we've signed 3 lads who'll all be on good money as we've had to beat off competition for them. A few players have left but Id have thought by the time the summer s over the wage bill will be even bigger still .Hoyle will be funding that aswell.
basically I think its wrong to expect anything from dean and just be happy with what we're getting because its a lot.

I like the idea of 'nicking' other teams' best players.
We did this in the Bruce years, when we were top of Div 2. Lucky, mark 1 and Irons spring to mind.
I'm still umming about Simpson.

Does it matter how much we spend it's all about getting the right players not believing that cos we've spent 3/4 million we expect them to dominate league 1

Add Pilks' fee, and Simpson's, plus the signing on fees for the two player's of the year we've just bought, and I bet it's not shy of one million quid. Deano isn't going mad, is being a canny lad. Proven League One players and a manager who puts the graft in -- thats what we want, cos this is the only way for a club like ours to get out of this division.

I am very happy with the state of the expenditure thus far, I think Deano is one very shrewd cookie (prob helped him make his fortune). I believe that he and the hated one (KD) both contribute to the ongoing expenses within the club to a capped amount from KD which I think will not be an insignificant amount this will include the wages - What is important is that we maximise this amount Both out of contract players received offers "that they could not refuse" R. Moore claimed it wouldn't be matched by anyone in this division. Transfer fees will be solely funded by Deano so that will be 300-500k so far. Maybe there will be more to follow - some on here will be demanding more, personally I hope there is a right back and striker still to come but would like to think that there will be enough out of contract and loan players available for us to minimise spending on transfer fees.

Oggy on Radio Leeds earlier intimated that further striker transfers are likely, and that they will be "standing by their beds over the next 2 days".

Of course there is the problem of not getting out of division 1 next year and then being left with a huge wage bill with another season down here. Fingers crossed it doesn't happen but a shrewd team plans for it - I personally think the higher wages of the out of contract players is worth the gamble at this stage.

Delighted with the calibre of the 3 players so far, excellent signings. Town are going to rise again this season, wait for the next striker to be signed now ! TTID

I would be getting slightly worried if Clark was signing players left right and centre for big amounts. I really like the way he is going about things, signing the experienced players on free's, and investing in the younger potentials. I also like the fact that his idea of experience isn't 33+ year old past its, but middle aged experience (in terms of games played at this level and above). Clark seems to have a very knowledgeable head on him, and isn't getting carried away knowing he has money to spend, he's being very sensible about it all. IF the right player comes along thats, young, hungry and likely to increase in price throughout the years, then I'm sure Hoyle will get out the checkbook, but I'm very satisfied with whats happening at the club at the moment!

No point spending all the cash available to get us out of this division and then having nothing to spend to keep us out of this division. You need money in the championship to compete, in League 1 it's just getting a decent "team" and if that's 4 or 5 free transfers then fair enough.
