With Kay and Goodwin in the centre at some of the tougher away games we would have some real steel/backbone in the centre of the park and for once I'm confident that we will boss the home teams about (something we have lacked for many a season).
So far we have signed IMO opinion 3 excellent players which added together with the likes of Smithies, Pilks & Ainsworth (he will be good next season) and the possibility of Micky C being allowed (with the arrival of Kay) to play to his strengths we look the strongest as a club for a long time.
Novak needs time so I'm not adding him to the mix as he needs to find his feet first.
One final thought is that one of the players who gets regularly slated on here is going to take us all by surprise. My gut feeling is that Phil Jevons will step up to the mantle and produce the goods. His confidence was shot to hell by ST and on the number of times I have seen/spoken to him after a Town game his body language was of a man needing his confidence re-building.
I maybe wrong but someone that no one is talking about or being slated is going to pleasantly surprise us all.
LC is only 2 good signings away from having the best squad Town have put together for many a year. A new R/B and another Striker and we are seriously gonna kick some arse next season.
Other clubs are starting to tip us as dark horses for next season and that's not just supporters of division 1 clubs.
Our long, long wait of years in the desert wandering in this sh*tty division are about to end.
We are Huddersfield Town and we ARE going up next season!

Top post and I agree with all you say. Would be great if Jevons could suprise us but I guess if we do sign another striker then hopefully he wont even need to.

I think Jevons will not step up if he stays. I think Keigan Parker has a slight better chance of stepping up than Phill Jevons thats if Keigan Parker stays. The reason i say this is because he could try playing off Robbie Simpson, who has more presence about him than Phill Jevons.
I rate them both useless.

Jevons and Parker won't be here if we are lucky.
If Jevons is still here, i cant see how he will do well. He just has nothing about him that makes him anygood at this level. He is slow, takes too long on the ball resulting in him getting it taken off his toe, too weak and soft, never in the right place at the right time etc etc

James Berrett could be the dark horse for me next season. He has to break into the team soon or his career will start to drift.

I like you have to pass the big yellow skip twice a day. I'm sure we are old fashion missionaries tasked with spreading the gospel of Lord Dean to the soulless inhabitants of LS1 & 2 Terry the Terrier in his full Town kit swinging from my back car window I'm sure helps win up the locals as my car sits in a Leeds City Centre car park! God I'm in a good mood tonight "2 for 1 My Lord, 2 for 1................"

I love your optimism (it's well founded) and I too think we will be in the shake up. However, I don't think either Goodwin or Jevons will surprise us in any way, shape or form. But, yes... I think we are finally getting there!

That split second of doubt is the difference between success and failure in such a fast moving sport. I agree that young James could be the man to make that leap, although another name for the debate is Tom Clarke!

Jevons has a good footballing brain, as was demonstrated with the 1-2 with Roberts, against who I can't remember. He needs to find a bucket load of enthusiasm from somewhere though, cos even at Bury, he looked less than average. Honestly can't see that he will be the man to surprise us next season, but I'll happily be proved wrong.

I've spoken to jevons a few times at various places and he is a really top bloke, so when I slate him it's like kicking a puppy, I feel awful. He isn't good enough for us and what we want to achieve and barring a miracle he never will be. I hope he gets a decent club though and re-starts his career.
On a different note, your optimism has perked me up.
Kudos to you!

Mr geese, We are watching the same game you and I.
I think Ainsy will turn some town heads next season not to mention L1 defenders. I know he was devastated after his cousin was shot just after he signed, who he'd grown up with as a brother. You could see it is is eyes. Next season will be different.
I just pray Benitez gets Johnson, can't offload shit arbeloa and thinks he doesn't need Kelly who fits the bil perfectly for us & just oozes class.
And Ricky Lambert, who plays football like you've just insulted his mother

You stuck your neck on the line and said the same about Danny Cads last year, Andy. I thought you were nuts, but by God you were right! I like Jevons, and hope you're right about him too!

I've always liked Jevons, but even I had to admit he wasn't good enough last season, probably best all round that he goes, but would love it if he stayed and re-discovered his form, because he was a good player for us the season before last. Anyone who was at Luton away on the last day of 07/08 will have seen what he can do.
