Good side, they're going to be difficult to stop. Resilient at the back, fantastically hard working in the middle, great delivery into the box from the wings, quick and elusive up front. Not Town's night tonight - we didn't get the breaks, although on balance of play and possession we were the dominant side in both halves. I think we went long ball too early when playing catch up, but it sure was hard to find space for a passing game in the middle. The Charlton lads continually closed it down. The delivery from the wings and set pieces was also a bit mixed - what was the final corner count - something like 10-0 in Town's favour? One of those has got to lead to a chance normally.

We'll take them at our place, they had the luck today and the benefit of Kays rubbishness. They were strong but not overly convincing. But points make prizes!

They will win the league. Saying they won't defend like that every week isn't much of an argument when they comfortably have the best defence in the league.

I agree. I really hope there isn't mass panic on here because we were a bit unlucky all things considered. They were decent, but we certainly matched them (as we should have) and on another night could have got a point at least. They defended superbly and rode their luck a bit. We made a couple of mistakes and were punished.
So it goes. Disappointed but also encouraged by our 2nd half. I think a year ago we'd have buckled a la Southampton.
By the way, I thought Peter Clarke did well tonight, which I'm pleased about given recent (justified) concerns over whether he can still hack it.

Can stand losing to top of league it's the one goal leads we can't hold onto against the lesser teams that's really going to cost us

Think you bossed it in general...our defense was the difference.

They kept Jordan quiet, we kept Bradley quiet, overall

I'm glad someone said this, Charlton were very organised and worked hard in defence. They really crowded us out within seconds of getting the ball cutting out all options.
We had about five set pieces which came to nothing, they then glide a great delivery which brings a goal. They look a championship side but so do we on a whole.

Very good defensive display from Charlton tonight. Two soft goals and our final ball was the difference tonight. 2 from 4 I reckon for the top 2 (us, Charlton, Wed and Mk)

You dont lead by 7pts after 19 games without being a decent team and they looked impressive tonight - able to equally match playing good football and mixing it physically when needed. We still have a tendency for individual error and increasingly giving away soft and needless free kicks in dangerous areas - hunt in particular. Not much in it though and lots of reasons to be optimistic.

Very good side; earlier in the season I felt like they may just end up a bunch of high quality players clobbered together with no real thought or tactical nous; clearly not. They were spot on.

For me, it was all about a perfect execution of a game plan by Charlton - they defended very well and took their chances. It wasn't the end-to-end classic that it was billed as, but seemed to be a match that - bar their two goals - would have been a case of 'two good sides cancel each other out'. Except we defended very badly for both goals. Defence definitely needs looking at. Mccombe is a divisive player and obviously has his knockers, but would he have lost a yard on his man for the first and left Clarke 1-on-1 with BWP for the second? My answer is no, but it's all hypothetical and in hindsight. Here's to a good reaction next week. EDIT: Town fans were absolutely class tonight, sent shivers down my spine. Everyone who went should be proud. UP THE TOWN

Agree with the comments about the Addicks. They ARE a good side and were well worth their win today. On the other hand Town totally lacked ideas; it was all hoof ball which was doomed against a side like Charlton. I only get to watch Town on the rare occasions of TV broadcasts and I have yet to see a convincing display or a win in a 90 minute game. I think Town is a top half third division side and no more than that. It will be a long season and the players will have to do much better to earn anything better than a play-off place. On today's display I doubt that a goal would have come if the game had gone on until Christmas. We cannot defend set pieces near the penalty area and the second goal was total lack of concentration. Overall a poor show from a team with promotion in mind, but, a reasonable effort for a top half Div 3 team.

Thought Charlton deserved the win to be honest, although 2-0 was not a fair reflection of the match. 1-0 more realistic.
They seemed to have just that little bit more quality on the pitch - the free kick delivery for their first goal springs to mind. They also seemed to be first to the ball in a lot of instances, and with the rub of the green going their way it was enough to get the 3 points.
Thought their defending was very good, and although for most of the match so was Town's, I didn't think Kay had a good night.
Was very pleased with Town's effort in the second half, just couldn't quite get a break to get one goal back.
Still, if you'd told me in December last year we wouldn't be beaten again in the league until November 28th I would have bitten your arm off. Amazing achievement for Lee Clark and the team - especially in this division. Now it's over, time to go on another run starting against Bournemouth and let's get ourselves in the Championship!

they had 2 of their better players missing as well jackson the captain and stevens.
Charlton look solid, Wednesday are a worry me because they are big and strong and will pick up points when the pithces get bad because it will suit their style and watt who was at leeds on loan is a top signing for league 1
we ned to get tougher, glad the runs over, now we can concentrate on wins and not more draws

Was very impressed watching on TV with Charlton right back Solly, looked very good.
Too many balls from Town ended up in Charlton Goalkeeper's arms, but good honest game enjoyed watching it.

Charlton were a very organised side who had that clinical feel to a team that normally sees them promoted. We had more possession but did less with it when we had it. Our passing was poor and our first touch shocking.
Credit to Charlton and disappointing for us, but at least we can concentrate on winning games now and don't have to worry about this unbeaten run!
Unlucky boys, onwards and upwards!

I'm disappointed because that performance bore no resemblance to the way we normally play. Charlton are a good side, but I honestly think playing live on Sky seems to make us nervous.

Solly and Green (signed from Dagenham!) were superb. I absolutely hated that last minute cheating though by Kermorgant. 90th min, falls over. Clarke running backwards falls over his body. He rolls round holding his head, the head injury becomes a leg injury, the leg injury turns to cramp, the four staff around him tELL him to stay down, he is stretchered off yet two mins later is running round the pitch celebrating. I HATE THAT!!!!

Cheers for all of the positive comments about our team. It`s always tough taking a defeat but you do have a lot to be positive about too. Your long unbeaten run has been incredible and it could be a blessing in disguise now that it`s over. In my opinion, you are the best team we have played at home(away was Mk Dons)this season and you made us work very hard for the points.
You are a good team who would have beaten anyone else last night but you came up against a team who just have that little bit more than anyone else in this league. We can cope with any team`s style of play and then impose our own. Also we have the best defensive unit in the division by a mile and to be fair to them they are collectively a class act.
That alone wins points in this division.
I think most Charlton fans want you to go up as well, if we do make it of course. Sheff Weds are just arrogant 2 bob p****s and I hope they fall apart.
Good luck for the rest of the season and hopefully we will meet again in the Championship next year!

I'm disappointed because that performance bore no resemblance to the way we normally play. Charlton are a good side, but I honestly think playing live on Sky seems to make us nervous. I thought overall we played better for lnger periods of the game than we have done for some time. I'm not a big fan of Clarks tactic where the defenders just clear it long as soon as possible if they receive the ball in the back third...especially against a well organised team who will let you have possession at the back and invest the time reorganising to defend their own half of the pitch...but if he doesn't have confidence in their ability then I guess I can understand why it's a system. Peter Jackson used to espouse that approach too...remember the kick offs where it was played inside then just hoofed into touch 30 yards up field...his ethos was you can't concede whilst the ball is in the other half of the field. To me it means lack of faith in your players ability, and/or fear of the opposition attacking threat...were we scared of Wright Phillips...he didn't look all that special to me (like how Charlton prob viewed Rhodes last night).
