A 5am wake up call not from the alarm clock but sadly from 2 local hoodies breaking into my block of flats – the joy of living in war torn Millbridge eh!? Nothing was going to stop me enjoying this day though even with only 5 hours sleep – I had at one point given up on another pikey trip!! – Everything going against us with the fixtures this season but luckily it was Game on! Even got a text from Booby saying he couldn’t sleep so I was in good company! – It was Pikey time!! So living just 2 mins from HQ its just a leisurely stroll down the road!? Err no; don’t think so as the 13 mile journey to pick up Shortbread Pete and his lad Matthew in Leeds is made. There they were in the dark by the bus shelter armed with rucksacks and a wig. Next stop is to pick up Phil H and as ever being a minute late, he was quickly on the blower “where are you!?” he moaned! – after hauling him in the back off we went then for the breakfast of champions at Roberttown café – where fellow pikeys were already in feed mode including Sir Ian. Matt and Phil had mega breakfasts, large ones seemingly not enough – altogether now.. “you fat bast**ds!” shouted shortbread Pete!
All fed and watered it was down to HQ where a crowd had already gathered in excitement awaiting the mighty star coach. Some real impressive efforts with the wigs and taches to see too. Terrier Ramone going the whole nine yards with an impressive shellsuit to go with his. The bus arrives but opposite the club with the mass pile on to claim the much lorded back seat. For yours truly ive always been known as a front side boy but I thought id risk it for a biscuit with Glen and head towards the back sitting in the worst 2 seats ever with no leg or even arm room! Ash and Nomis in front knew this and said that they’d sat in these seats on a previous trip and weren’t making the same mistake twice – couldn’t even open the newspaper! – So off we headed up Huddersfield road 10 minutes late (there’s a shock!) and without Booby and Scoff (Scoffer late!? – there’s a shock!) – so in unprecedented pikey style they got the VIP treatment as we went to pick them up. Now I know there’s was no premier league fixtures for Sky to cover but little did I know that we be joined on the bus by Chris Kamara there enjoying a rare Saturday off! Booby followed close behind – the bus echoing to the sound of “there’s only one chris kamara” – check out the photo below and make your own minds up!! With the bus in great voice decked out in a combination of scouse wigs, taches, £2 flourescent t shirts and steve on the backseats even using his t shirt as a facemask with his crutches yelling “Huddersfield hooligans!” – it could only be a pikey bus! – Digwon was trying to convince everyone he was Jodie Marsh in his bizarre attire. It was to Chester we was heading for the first stop! Petes 80s CD quickly replaced by Chris Kamaras/Lionel Richies – sorry Scoffs CD – Tenpole tudors – the swords of a thousand men echoing out!! Mezzs niece Amy lost her MPC virginity at Notts County but was pretty underwhelmed by the experience – that wasn’t a proper bus on a schoolnight though – this was and even with these early signs it was clear she would see a pikey bus in all its glory. Lewis’s jumped getting constantly abused by Steve with dad Daz laughing – Not that it was to be on for long – more on that later!! Then a moment that for a pikey bus man must be equivalent to an athlete winning a gold medal in the Olympics – I only went and won the bloody football card – the even better thing about it was that Glen picked my team!! – COVENTRY CITY – Phil H proudly announces that the cash was one by a murderer – to chants of “you’re gonna get your f**king head kicked in!” it was clear that I may need to purchase a drink or 52 with the loot!
Now ive never been to Chester before but ive been told it’s a quaint, quiet place, steeped in history – perfect for a millbridge visit then!!? – errr maybe not but here we were! – Bundled off the bus at 11am perfect swilling time as the hunt for a pub that was willing to risk having 50 pikeys in it began – The Oddfellows arms was the first port of call and the barmans face a picture as wigs, taches, and shellsuit appeared at the bar, bemused looks from the locals! Great times as beer after beer knocked back and new friends made (nice to see some new faces on the bus!) Tony Walsh showing Scoff the brilliant Davy DATM videos that were posted earlier in the week! It was then onto the next pub which was next to the water called The Lock keeper which Diggers claimed was closed and we couldn’t get in, yet Scoff and everyone else could see people in it eating and drinking! – In we went and the locals who were gathering to enjoy the Scouse-Manc cup game were going to be treated to something very special and that wasn’t anything to do with the various Town songs that were echoing round the pub as the Ron Jeremy lookalike did his best to serve gagging pikeys! – Bull and a few others had decided to order some food – correct me if im wrong here bull but you had bangers and mash for a cool £10!! – you must be paid well pal!!
I’d decided to head round the corner and enjoy the FA cup game on the tv but it caught my eye that a lot of the locals had lost interest in this and were glancing out of the window shaking their heads but smiling! Just about all the pikeys were out their too – what was going on!? Had to find out and Daz’s lad Lewis was stripped down to some incredible kegs in freezing cold conditions next to the water – cameraphones were at the ready!! – now ive done my homework here thanks to Wikipedia - this is the River Dee – it’s a 70 mile stretch of river that separates England from wales – it is also used by boats, shopping trolleys and god knows what else and looked about as welcoming as Mandy Dingle! The story was that Lewis was to win £80 if he swam across to the other end – With an incredible dive – in he went!! – Unbelievable Jeff as the watching Scoff Kamara would say! – He managed to do it and avoid his first brush with death (drowning) but the next one was about to arrive (hypothermia!) A smiling Lewis headed back into the toilets to dry out – he was buzzing - £80 he said with a big smile on his face!!
Back on the bus it was to head to the game (ah there was a reason for the trip!) And then it was the turn of Glen to win the second footy card! – Incredible scenes! By this time the bus was in outstanding voice as we homed in on Prenton Park – the only hope was that the noise could be replicated in ironically the Cowshed end! On came the police and told us that we needed to be straight back on the bus after the game. Not everyone made it back to be fair – well 2 didn’t! We then had time for a cheeky pint in the pub next to the ground. The bizarre site of young Tranmere fans going barmy to Dirk Kuyts winner too – cue “YOU’VE HEARD OF MAN UNITED, YOU’VE HEARD OF LIVERPOOL!” from the Town fans. Never have understood this 2 team bolocks! – In the ground we went and it didn’t take long to sober up – literally as one of the most drab games ever was curtailed at 3.30pm as the bar opened! – lots of Town fans had the same idea as they couldn’t face any more of the gash being served for £22. Half time just like last season was quality with people going barmy to the chant with no words as I call it with beer and plastic bottles flying all over though as TerrierDaz rightly pointed out – “why cant they create that atmosphere during the match!?” We scored, they scored and that was that, time to head for our night on the tiles at…STALYVEGAS!
We were joined for the return by 2 Town legends – TalkSports and Ken Davys friend – Mr Andy Shuter and the one and only sunflower. Both decided that as they had not paid for a seat they would stand all the way to Staly – I sometimes wonder why they put seats in a pikey bus!!? – Now as all of you who know Jimmymac – if Town don’t get the 3 points you never know how he’ll be after the game! – He was in fine fettle though leading the bus in a “Jimmymacs a w@nker rendition!” I’m sick of this bloke taking himself too seriously!! – Stalyvegas we were here and the specials “ghosttown” couldn’t have been more apt as 2 pubs I went to last time had closed down – bumped into Phil H and others wondering around aimlessly trying to find a watering hole – You should know theyd be on the prowl for a spoons the tight bassads and they found one and apparently one bar next door which they claimed they got 3 beers for a £5. Must have been a classy joint – especially on a Saturday night! I headed back to find the others and everyone getting thrown out of the Whitehouse – No Obama in sight either. One of the bar staff wisely decided to stop arguing with Booby. So into the next pub and the landlady was on her own and I don’t think she knew whether to laugh or smile as we piled in the door! She didn’t like our singing and with Army belting out a controversial (we didn’t win!) yellow bird, the floor was shaking as everyone stamped on its fooking head! The Stalybridge fan joining in too. It appeared that this was another pub we were getting thrown out of but she did a U turn and realised that the income was worth listening to Town songs! However Scoff and 2 local “stunnas” were dancing on a ceiling and with JimmyMac leading the quietest smile a while and oh when the town ever, we’d managed to charm the landlady again and the beer was flowing!!
The final port of call before we boarded the bus for me was a pizza and with lots of other pikeys piling in, I reckon Stalybridge’s economy is fine now for the next year. With temperatures plummeting it was back on the bus to head back to Yorkshire. A nice quiet ride back!? I don’t think so with a mental rendition of the song with no words..NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA OOOOOOOHHHHHH OOOOOOHHHH NA NA NA NA NA!! – didn’t need Bully to crack my head with Steves crutch though – it was banging enough!! NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA OOOOHHHHHHHH NA NA NA NA! What a din!! 4 legged hens also doing the rounds – what a day as we headed back to base via Hudds station where we lost Pete and Matt and then Booby (cheers for the shortbread Pete) Most of it was being used as missiles mind!
Back to pikey HQ at 10pm – it felt like we’d been to Yeovil again! – An epic voyage!
Has a pikey trip ever disappointed!? – It’s the only thing guaranteed when you board the bus that you’ll have a brilliant day. I couldn’t have given a toss if we’d have not got in the ground to be honest – Between 3pm and 4.50pm it was the worst part of the day! It generally is – but the comrades you meet on this bus and when you click through the turnstiles you wouldn’t swop for anyone

I'm honoured to be mentioned in a Pikey review Kosi. Just a shame I now live in the back and beyond so had to be on the 7.30 from staly Vegas. To me, you lads epitomise all that that is good about being a Town fan and it's a pleasure to be welcomed into the fold! Utt and //////// ####%%%%% etc for jimmy mac!

Great report as always Kosi. It's been a long time but you haven't lost your touch. Thanks as always for the lift over to HQ. Lewis that was mental as anything. I wouldn't have put a leg in that freezing water for £80!
It all ended very messily I'm afraid. Matt finally succeeded in losing me at Hudds station and I'm sure he caught the wrong train. I ended up without him back in Leeds and couldn't find him or contact him. I had to 'phone the missus as he had the door key. She had gone to bed and wasn't amused. Matt came home at 5.00am and can't remember anything about the Head of Steam onwards. Not a good ending or a happy start to my birthday.

All 4 of us are off down Orient, which will be belting, but I can't handle an entire season without a Millbridge trip.
Bury, Colchester, Carlisle, Bournemouth, Preston, Walsall....
Any buses planned? I'm too over excited for it to be that far away.
