Despite boobys numerous texts during the week at ridiculous times, it was actually my alarm that woke me up on this sunny Saturday morning and not him!! Fook me - a wembley play off final and everything at stake!! The usual drive to get Shortbread pete and Matt from chapel allerton had begun and radio Leeds were getting me into a frenzy - the first headline on the 7am news - "Huddersfield towns day of destiny had arrived" said the reader - oh boy!!! Seeing town fans in Leeds and en route made the heart beat even more - this was it!!
Pete and Matt jumped in and via McDonald's in birstall for some brekky it was off to hq! All week I was wondering after star coaches had snubbed us for our big day, what kind of drivers would be taking us. Would they be good uns!? York Pullman bus no less with posh seats! Did they know they were taking pikeys 200 miles and not off to York races!!? Some familiar and not familiar faces and a 5 minute delay to the start of the journey not too bad for hq standards - to be fair scoff was already down in the smoke!! 7 empty seats but we'd only got as far as the red lion in hecky when the missing lads had phoned ian to tell us to wait - cue fag break and we ain't even got past the bloody Robert peel!!
That was it then and with a stop off at beautiful chickenley for a fellow baldy it was time to hit the m1!! It was a strange atmosphere on the bus, dunno whether it was cos of a different coach company, absence of familiar pikeys or more likely the fact how huge the game was just dawning on everyone but it was quiet - no cd from shortbread pete (this would be rectified at Lester forest!!) I was sat on the front row with royalty that is Phil h but far too near mezz who in the absence of bull would be dropping the worst farts in history! Already a football card before we'd got half way and qpr the winning time - blue and white - maybe it was an omen!!?
Leicester forest for a quick stop and an amazing sea of blue and white but word was reaching the driver of the m1 being shut from junction 11 and talk of 3 hour delays - BOLOCKS!! We needed a quick getaway but with pete scouring the CDs in the services - fat chance! We were not to be denied a shocking 80s cd!! - more later
So it was to be a43 m40 to wembley but everyone else bar HTSA seemed to have that idea. The ETA at wealdstone fc getting further and further away! Stop start traffic and at one stage worries whether we'd make the game in time! The co driver doing his best to pass the time with some dreadful jokes on the mic! "one jimmy tarbuck" sung the back of the bus! To be fair his jimmy Saville impression was up there with armys!
Alleluia we'd arrived at wealdstone fc at 1.30 and just time for a pint! We nearly took half the wall with us on the entrance in! Tight squeeze! Now I'm no musical expert and pete normally does us proud with the music but by Christ he failed today. To be coming into wealdstone with f**king nelly the elephant blaring out was a new low! Im sure any millwall hooligans would have run a mile thinking the town firm had arrived!!? To be fair the cd was only £9 which for a service station is a bargain but you could tell why after 4 songs in!
One dodgy burger and bottle of sol later it was time to get the tube in! Pikeys getting a tube! Wonders never cease! Cue confusion at the ticket booth and voices "f**king £8.50 return - you what!!?" ten a plenty!! No fooker had an idea which platform or where to go but luckily an assistant was at hand! Christ 2pm and we were an hour away from our destiny! A few chants on the tube which army started but the yellow bird was firmly in its cage! A sight of the arch and the train a stop away. The heart pumping - this was it!! No turning back now! Off the train and over the bridge - red and white and blue and white everywhere - what a sight! Chants galore and then wembley way in sight and what a sight! It was roasting and I just thought you gotta take this all in - not quite Yeovil that's for sure!!
As the pikey media officer I felt it obligatory to do an Interview for a website on the way in and all going well until I was jumped! Thought it was a blade but should have known better! JIMMY MAC! What a legend!! Further up I bumped into diggers with his brazil shirt and his bro! Onto the entrance we go. But not before some nasty blades were in my face telling me that we were gonna bottle it again. Now I was at wembley 6 days prior for yorks game but this was it!! OUR MOMENT! Wrighty telling me that it was our time - hope he's wright as per his name!!
On our row, scoff, mrs scoff and kids mids and mrs mids, cops next to me, bull and Ainley and daz not too far away but far enough!! Now normally I leave the match to the official site but how could I today! The huge town and blades banners hanging over the pitch, the dramatic music playing and out came the teams!!
Poop first half and more fun was had at half time chatting to bry the pikey man and his bro and bull who was telling us that the mayor of Coventry had fallen asleep! Still we were confident and good to see Donnie brasco asking if I'd murdered anyone lately - something's never change!! Get back on a bus soon pal!! Second half and I was just in my seat when ward smashed the bar - BOLOCKS!! Diggers and scoff not even in theirs! Was it to be our day!? Even more so I wondered when the 2 Clark chances missed by inches!
EXTRA TIME and town looked to have more fuel in the tank than united! Mids telling me it was written in the stars throughout that x y and z was gonna happen but none of it coming true tho I thought Alan lee was gonna right his self into town folklore - great save simonsen. I looked round - roberttown blue biting his third set of nails - never seen him as tense. The refs whistle blows and 9 months work to be decided by spot kicks. In my head flashbacks to Cardiff but soon changing to Sadford shitty in the JPT. Which way would it go!? Booby walking along the row telling everyone it didn't matter If we lost. Well it did for me!! Please no more Yeovil Walsall and Stevenage!! I did wonder if it was not to be our day with the various scrambles not going in and when Alan lees penalty was saved I was in bits - that was it - surely no team can miss there first 3 pens and win a shoot out!? But the united lads looked nervous as fook too - so maybe!!? Mids telling me numerous times during the shoot out x y and z will happen but again none of it was! Even when we'd evened it up after missing the first 3 I was convinced we'd lose - after all this is Huddersfield town - the king of the f&&k up!! So to the keepers - smithies a beauty and then THE moment. I just had an inkling. Simonsen was taking it too fast - OVER THE BAR! He sinks to the turf and we go nuts!! Tears flowing down my cheeks, diggers, scoff, daz, bull - WHAT A FEELING!! 2 town players trying to vault the fence but to be pushed back by stewards! My phone going mental text after text - 'well done - so pleased for ya'
We had done it!! And as coldplays paradise played up went the trophy with our unbelievable skipper hands on it! PARADISE it was! Leeds not Leyton orient Bolton not bury! Back down wembley way with barely a blade in sight!! WHOOOAAA WHOOOAAA NA NA NA NA NA as we waited to get into wembley park! Amazing scenes! Happy smiling faces - all ages. Does it get better than this!? Phil H on the phone "we've done it!!" it still felt surreal!! Back to ruislip and people piling onto the tube!! Off I got and jimmy mac and scouse Eddie on the platform! "WHEN I WAS A LADDY MY MAM SAID TO ME.." sung Russ as we headed to the local waitrose to get our grog! Town fans here there and everywhere!! The fittie on the till with a bemused look as warm beer, buca, champagne headed out! Back to wealdstone fc and great scenes as town fans rejoiced! Mum and dad on the phone as proud as punch and just the best day!!
Back on the York Pullman and heading north and only one song I wanted to hear and it wasn't nelly the pigging elephant. "SOOOO HERE WE ARE!!! WE'RE AT IT AGAIN!" as the drivers feared for their coach with the inevitable ending!! "NA NA NA NA AND STAMPED ALL OVER ITS.." you know the rest!! we'd done it and boy did it feel god! Even 2 pieces of shortcake for me! an m1 sign said it all THE NORTH - LEICESTER DERBY NOTTINGHAM SHEFFIELD - see ya all next season lads!! The songs rung out from the back! "IF YOU'RE ALL OFF TO WOLVES, BOLTON etc clap your hands!!" amazing feeling!! The cars coaches heading north peeping and smiling faces! Even the overrated John bishop on DVD could not dampen my mood! THE TOWN were going up and everyone was gonna know about it! Jumped off at the peel and somehow ended up in a lock in at the swan till silly o clock with Ian and Phil - a lot of it a blur but amazing scenes - beaming with pride inside. You could have put me in a coffin and sent me to dewsbury moor crem - I was happy with my lot - WE WERE GOING UP UP UP!
the pikeys roll onto new venues!! Watch out!! Great days, times and we'd got our reward! - WE NEVER WIN AT HOME AND WE NEVER WIN AWAY!
Thanks for the memories lads and to my late grandma - I told you we'd do it one day

Great report Kosi. I've loved reading the comments on here, twitter, Facebook etc. Gutted to have missed it, but the outcome was written in the stars the minute the quacks at jimmys muttered the words "treatment in America". Hopefully I'll be there when we get promoted to the prem to join in with the party. Doubt there'll be too many Preston 15's next season too.

"It's written in the stars Kosi mate, it's written in the stars" And it was Quality reporting.... can't wait to have a Millbridge catchup during the summer where we can assess the fixture list, and fill the bus in advance

Great report as ever Kosi and after all the miles travelled that were often spoilt by the football, how great to share a magnificent day and result with the MPC and you - after all those incredible early starts you've put in to pick us up - always greatly appreciated mate.
I thought the drivers were superb and would love to travel with them again.
The shortbread never tasted so sweet!
That triple CD is quality but I guess it's down to taste. The Jam, Sham 69, Tenpole Tudor, Psychedelic Furs, Squeeze, Fiction Factory, Tears for Fears, Iggy Pop, A Flock of Seagulls, The Passions and the Toy Dolls to name but a few, was good enough for those towards the back. Whhhooooaaaaaooooo - Nelly the elephant packed her trunks................!!!
Onwards and upwards (at last!) with the MPC - God love her and all who sail aboard her!
