With Magic Marcus we might have made it to The Promised Land of the Greedy Ones.
Might have done 'a Bradford' though by now ...

And who sanctioned the sale of Marcus Stewart? I heard an allegation (do not know if it is true or not) that it was Trevor Cherry.

bruce got rid of stewy after telling the board<of which he was a member>that if we sold him he could get a better player to replace him for 300k,cue martin smith,i lived next dr to a player at that time and he told me smith was good but would never play 5 games in a row, dont think he ever did till he was playing for a move either.

Richard are you for real? ?? Marcus Stewart in his prime was so far ahead of the rest of the Town team in terms of reading the game it was inevitable he'd go and score a few in the Premiership. Although an Andy Booth who could run AND bend his knees was class he never had the footballing intelligence or quality of movement of Stewart. If we'd have had money and ambition back in the day (reoccurring theme this one ;D) a Booth and Stewart partnership would have guaranteed us at least a play off spot.

And who sanctioned the sale of Marcus Stewart? I heard an allegation (do not know if it is true or not) that it was Trevor Cherry. Steve Bruce said that according to his good mate Bryan Robson Stewy wasn't good enough to play in the Premiership. Bruce was trying to do a player exchange deal with Middlesbrough at the time with an absolutely superb player by the name of Andy Campbell. I'll leave others to judge who wasn't fit to lace whose boots.

i have watched town for 30 years now and marcus stewart is without doubt the best player i have ever seen in a town shirt. not even close. boothy is great for all sorts of reasons but please. great strikers are all about movement. marcus was never still, always available and an option and then when he got it he was pure class on the ball. for those that are younger, think of jon stead and multiply how good he is by about 50. that said, i still voted for the protest against Davy, obviously.

IMO the selling of Stewart was a massive turning point for the club, one which still reiburbarates today. This was compounded by the injury to Wineyard. If we hadnt sold Stewart who knows where we maybe today. Another short sited move by the club

Another classic move from ayre the rsole, "if it all goes wrong I'll stand up and be counted" he said, well it did and what did he do, he fkd off leaving us in the mire the scarse git. And now were stuck with another rsole in charge of the club, DOH!

selling Stewart to a league rival when we did was football aspiration suicide in that transfer we tranferred away a genuine chance of promotion to greatness... this move by steve bastard and Judas Aire (liverpool shirt wearing bastard in the cup game) was the start of the slump we are still decending from. we never capitilise on our players to speculate to accumulate all down the years with Town we have sold sold sold our future away. how did we pay for flood lights at leeds road?

I was gutted when Stewart was sold, it's been downhill all the way since then. Beating Crystal Palace 7-1, going to Bramhall Lane & getting a result, scoring 5 goals against teams who are now stalwarts in the Championship like Plymouth & Cardiff. Fortress Mcalpine as it used to be.....what great memories, but that's all they are now.
That for me was the start of the total lack of ambition and sheer contempt for the loyal devoted fans which now pervades our once great club.
Those days are gone & I don't think we'll see them again in my lifetime unfortunately.

We should never have got rid of Buxton in December 86. I don't think he's as old as Bobby Robson and I reckon he'd be doing a better job.

Booth scored 30 in 4 seasons. That shows who the superior player was and still is! You could see that from the moment Stewart signed for town.

That one for Kwami - as good as an abstention...
Selling Stewart - particularly to a promotion rival was fair business sense - if you wanted your business to go down the toilet that is.

Lack of ambition has been the motto for H T F C for a lot longer than has been mentioned Bill Shankly, Allegedly wanted to buy two players (ron yeates, ian st john) the board then would not pay he went to Liverpool a mediocre Div 2 side, and signed Who ? We needed about 2 players in 71/2 to keep us in Div 1 ? not since the 20,s have we had ambition, and even then we let Herbert Chapman go ?
