I don't know how this has escaped me before.. but:
"Deep Blue Day*" is just "Sailing By**" with a bit of Eno production, isn't it?
*It's also used in"Trainspotting", silly. When he dives in the bog. **You know, before the late-night shipping forecast.

I bought a copy of "music for airports 1" once and was shocked at how literal the title was, "music for lifts" would've been more accurate. Still was pleasant to get stoned to.

Produced U2 thus invalidating everything good he's ever done
Harsh but fair

It's "Ambient 1 - Music For Airports", silly. And it is absolute cocking genius. It's supposed to make you feel all fatalistic and stuff so that you don't mind if your plane disentegrates at 30,000 feet in a cloud of inflight magazines, shards of plastic and defecating and dismembered passengers.
Pikael - you are nearly correct. It certainly invalidates everything he's done since (which is shit anyway). I can only refer you to Steve Albini's answer to the question
"What would you say to (insert shit band totally opposed to everything Albini and his followers hold dear) if they rang tomorrow and asked you to produce them"
Namely "What time do you want to start?"
And NO-ONE hates U2 more than me. NO ONE.

His part in the minting of "ambient" (bowke - only beaten by "intelligent drum and bass", ie, jungle without scary blacks) also makes him a prime target in my post-revolution Matthew Hopkins-inspired antics.

Are you sharing an irrational bile-duct with Brispie today? The clue is in the release dates. "Ambient 1" came out in 1978 or so. A good 12 years before the pox of which you speak.
Yes, Eno is an insufferably ponce far too in love with himself - in his defence, Lennon was a snidey wife- and child-beating, hypocritical, addled smackhead and all round terrible fuckdick but he still wrote some bloody good tunes.
*maths edit*

Not really, I just quite enjoy taking on music's sacred cows. I couldn't actually give a toss.

Whatever it was called, I was only just stoned enough to appreciate it.
I hate U2 quite a lot.

Is he a sacred cow? I suppose he is, but only post-U2. Which is daft as he had definitely shot his creamy musical wad somewhere around 1984.

I thought he did a very good job on Unforgettable Fire. However much you might loath Bonio et al, Eno's work with Bowie alone is enough to forgive him.
Post U2 his collaboration with James on Wah Wah was pretty good. He also curated an excellently odd art exhibition at a Self Storage place near Wembley Stadium a while back (titled "Self Storage").
I'm more concerned about his role as advisor on Youth issues for the Limp Dems. Are they planning to replace ASBOs with some sort of Clockwork Orange-esque "music therapy"?
Is it just me or have the Wombats achieved the seemingly impossible and become more lame and inane than the Fratellis?

I've got a CD that mymategav copied for me on the Wombats EPs and it's alright in a listenable indie-pop type way. I rather like the silly inane lyrics and musically they seem to be able to hold a tune together. I have heard bad things about the album though. The Fratelli's really are several levels below them in my eyes.
The Bowie albums Eno produced are rather special. As are the first couple of Roxy Music albums. I forgive anything he's done subsequently in his middle age. With some obvious exceptions, they really should introduce some sort of Logan's Run ethic in the music business.
