After yesterdays performance I hope Ritchie does not use what little money he has on WallworK, your thoughts...

I saw him against Luton, one of his first games for us, and he looked a notch above the other players. From comments on this board it seems like our coaching staff have knocked him down a couple of notches.

I dont think Wallwork will take a massive drop in wages to come to Town.

Holdsworth + Wallwork = brilliant together as a partnership
Wallwork + anyone else but holdsworth = wallwork looked poor.

Sign him up. The deal should have been done already because we are desperately short of central midfielders. I know he has had a couple of stinkers recently but who hasn’t. He has shown that he can play and he also has invaluable experience

I don't think Wallwork's a bad player, he's been fairly decent for us, what worries me is the crazy wages we might have to pay. I don't think we should ideally have any players paid tonnes more than their team-mates, Beckett on the reported 3k a week really isn't worth it, I think the only wage that should really stand out from the rest is that of Andy Booth, for obvious reasons. On Beckett's wage we could get a couple of decent first team players, and if Wallwork still wants crazy money, why get him ahead of 2/3 more players? A centre midfielder isn't all that vital now Holdsworth has got playing, and if Worthy comes back, Collins gets playing and Berrett builds on his good start it all looks pretty good in this position. Jevons might be a reasonably useful signing, but where else needs strengthening? Most would agree that we need a new centre back, so that should take priority over another centre midfielder. A new winger wouldn't hurt, unless Schofield and Brandon keep playing like they did yesterday! Otherwise we're not a bad side, but Wallwork shouldn't take priority. Andy.

I agree a new winger would do us good as schoffa can play in the centre of midfield. He wwas brilliant yesterday and he was playing more of a central role.

I agree with andy - its the wages which are my problem.
If its wallwork or a centre half and a left winger/striker i know which i'd prefer - the latter.
Imo, our priority should be a centre half or right back ...if ar sees sinclair as a rb, he should sign an extra cb...if he sees him as cb, he should look to get a rb....currently we only have 5 defenders - sinc, mirf, clarke, williams, skarz (+hardy)...as it would seem t clarke will not play much this season . Any injury on the right side/centre half means a midfielder has to drop bac to rb.
Not ideal - but at least ar has seen holdsworth cannot move from centre mid - at all costs

don't want him, generally hasn't impressed me,is too fat/overweight and lazy, doesnt tackle, unlike berret who put in more tackles in the first half than wallwork did in his 3 months here, doesnt go for the ball half the time when its free/bouncing near him,so dont want him

Put a ton of weight on since arriving.....appears all that time spent in Stafford on the beer is taking its toll.

When I saw Wallwork play against Luton, like others said, he looked just the sort of player we needed and people were singing his praises. I was also watching the performance of Luton's young on loan Polish defender, Jarek Fojut, who had a poor game that day.
Since that game the fortunes of both players seem to have reversed considerably. Fojut has had to go back to Bolton because of Luton going into administration but according to Kevin Blackwell he has been a key part of a defensive line that has conceded only 4 goals in past 12 games prior to today's cup game with Liverpool.
Contrast that to Wallwork who left the pitch against Luton with the praise of the Town fans ringing in his ears to his performance to that of his performance against Northampton where many fans were very critical of him and his cleanish looking kit when he left the pitch after 90 minutes of playing on a very wet and muddy looking pitch.

Okay have a bad game, but what a player shouldn't do is play like he's going through the motions ... especially when he's on loan trying to earn a contract!
Why once he's got the comfort of a contract why should he suddenly start trying harder - it's illogical!
He's supposed to be busting a gut to earn a deal and he hasn't (apart from the gut on his waistline!)
I don't for a second believe we can't get a better centre midfielder in than him. Quite a few have shown him up recently!
Besides if we do sign him he'll only be warming the bench. Unless there's anyone who doesn't want to see Worthy and Holdsworth as our first choice midfield pairing!
That WBA are after a fee is just taking the proverbial and AR should have hung up the phone the minute Mowbray said "transfer fee"

worthy, holdsworth, collins and now berrett - wallwork is no better in there than any of these.
save your money ritchie and buy either a commanding centre back or a goal scorer with pace before you look at central midfield, would be my advice, like.

We'd have to drop either Holdsworth or worthy to justify what will be a big wage for wallwork. Another stupid signing on a par with cadamarteri by our manager. He looked ok in his first games but has steadily got worse and worse ever since with his last few performances being nothing short of disgraceful. Ritchies a complete oaf if hes going to waste what little he has on ronnie wontwork

mate Kenny Irons was one of the best midfielders we have had in the last 20 years especially in his first 6 months before he got injured against Charlton. In my opinion his injury was the turning point in Bruce's tenure not the selling of Stewart.

Ritchies a complete oaf if hes going to waste what little he has on ronnie wontwork I thought that Wallwork was particularly disappointing against Northampton, however I hope we sign him because overall I think he would be a good addition to the squad (which is not exactly overflowing with midfield players). How do you know he hasn't been carrying an injury? Players often play with injuries that we don't necessarily know about. There could be reasons for his recent dip in form that you just aren't aware of. I would like to see him playing just in front of the back four, which is where he has played most of his career. If Wallwork does join us permanently, I doubt it will be on silly money. For a start, I don't think that Ritchie will be allowed to break the wages structure to bring him in. At the stage of his career that Wallwork is at, I'm sure he's got a few quid tucked away in the bank and just playing football closer to 'home', may be more of a motivation than cash, especially since he nearly lost his life just over a year ago. Those kind of things have a way of changing your perspective about what is important.

Dont remember him picking up an obvious knock in a game. You could use the 'might be carrying an injury no one knows about' line for any player who's consistantly crap and looks to be putting little or no effort in. Sooner or later though, you just have to accept that theyre crap and lazy. As for money, hes supposed to be on £6k a week at West brom. We wouldn't offer him that or anything like it but he'll definately be one of our top earners on around the £3k a week mark. Utter waste of money for a player who firstly, isn't going to improve and secondly, shouldn't even get in the first XI.

I wouldn't sign him for the simple reason he can't pass a football, something which I consider to be quite important in a central midfield player.
