At the All Together Town meeting on Thursday 30 January, it was proposed a trial be undertaken on a ‘Singing Section’ behind the goal in the Fantastic Media Stand Lower Tier.
As part of this process, on Tuesday 4 February Huddersfield Town Operations Director Ann Hough attended the Events Panel (EP) meeting to put forward the Club’s plans for a ‘Singing Section’ in the FM Lower as a trial for home games against Barnsley on 1 March and Bolton Wanderers on 5 April.
This is currently a stand already used for home fans, but nominated as a Family Stand. Adults can walk up and pay on the day, but must be accompanied by an U18. It has 736 Season Card holders and a capacity of 1,944 before any restrictions.
The plan would see it become an ‘open access’ stand for the trial games with ‘singers’ encouraged to move to that stand (if they are existing Season Card holders). They could be joined by pay on the gate fans that wish to congregate and create an enhanced atmosphere behind the goal. The idea comes after a lengthy and detailed consultation with supporters through Town’s All Together Town initiative.
At the EP meeting, it was decided that it was appropriate to convene an emergency meeting of the Safety Advisory Group (SAG) to consider the plan.
This was decided as the Events Panel felt the plan changes the dynamics of the game in respect of policing and stewarding.
The SAG meeting will be held on Thursday 13 February.
Following the outcome of the SAG meeting, a decision will be made as to whether the ‘Singing Section’ idea can proceed. If it can proceed, Season Card holders in that stand will be given the option of moving.
Huddersfield Town Operations Director Ann Hough commented:
“Just like all parties based at the Stadium complex, we have to go through this set-out process when making changes to usual processes. Huddersfield Town works together with the Events Panel and Safety Advisory Group, detailing future plans so that all parties on site are aware.
“In this case, the Safety Advisory Group has been convened to look at the effect and potential risk of changing the demographic of supporters in the Fantastic Media Stand Lower Tier, which consists of temporary seating.”
htafc.com will have updates in due course.
Events Panel
The Events panel has representatives from KSDL, namely Safety Officer John Robinson; Safety Licence Holder Phil Armitage and HR & Event Manager Jayne Armitage, plus representatives from the Odeon Cinema, the Football Club and the Rugby Club, KAL, Lindley (Caterers) with West Yorkshire Police in attendance.
The principal functions of the Events Panel is to agree policies for the hiring and use of all facilities within the Stadium and to agree with the clubs their respective requirements from time to time for policing fixtures and events, stewarding and gate staffing levels.
SAG
The SAG consists of representatives from all the emergency services plus Safety Officer John Robinson, Safety Licence Holder Phil Armitage and is Chaired by Nigel Boothroyd, who is Head of Kirklees Council building control. Huddersfield Town is not a member, but is invited to attend to make representations on the plans.

If it gets the green light following this SAG meeting, I'm guessing the dates will be confirmed.

Fine so long as those in the FML are allowed to move elsewhere at no extra charge. Doesn't impact me at all but I'd be pretty pissed off if I had a young kid and went in the cheap family section to be told it was no longer a family zone and they had to pay to move.

aren't they gonna discuss banners? Would be awesome if we were allowed them! Crystal Palace make their own and take them to every away game!!! What happened to this crowdfunding a flag anyway?

No need to be potentially pissed.....with the suggestion of the 'home end'...was the full support of those that are already in there having an option of moving without additional cost, and also support for the disabled supporters that they would also be no worse off either logistically or financially.....It couldn't work any other way....This is a potential transition period over the next season or so should the trials work....I really hope it does so differing sections of our home support can have their version of a good match day experience with a traditional footy match day atmosphere.........Let's give football back to the supporters....there are 4 sides to our ground and therefore enough options to please all.

Hope Mr Robinson don't put a spanner in the works on that committee.
Didn't realise it only held 1900. Perfect amount. South stand too big for us!

Agreed, as much as it's brilliant news that the club are pushing so hard to achieve this, I must admit it came as a bit of an unwanted surprise when I read that it's going to have to go via the safety committee. Knowing how petty and nervous they can be over change it does make me slightly anxious that they won't let us go ahead with the plans!

The ATT Group should know and now expect the Safety Committee to have to be overcome on any plan or idea. But stay strong. Be organised. Be prepared. Take advice. Sense and a committed supported drive can overcome any uncertainty or worries

Now this is kafkaesque bureaucracy at its finest.
I know we lost out on family club of the year but maybe we can have our own category for over-complication and lack of any common sense award.
Are we putting a few fans in another stand or planning High Speed 2?

Club would have to cover possible loss of the 736 customers who could not afford to move to another part of the ground not very good business!!!

Can see an overload though... On the trial it was 1/4 full and there was no chance of getting a pie

Obviously for the two trail matches there is no problem, but if it is a success then it could become one for people who already go in there. I've got good seats on the back row behind the goal and although I've no problems moving to create the "home end", won't be able to afford SC's for two adults and two kids in any other area of the ground. So, moving forward, I think Town do need to be careful how they treat those already in the FML.

If this area is given the green light I will be moving in with my 4 year old, in fact I'll be relocating to the fm lower regardless. I don't see that the fm lower will be exclusively reserved for born again cowshedders, obviously it might be a bit lively for the young uns bang central behind the goal, but I'm sure a couple of blocks to the side will be fine. Hopefully a large number of the present season ticket holders in there will decide to stay in that area to join in with the fun. Took the boy in there for the FA cup tie and he loved it, especially fighting with terrierdaz.
