Noticed at the weekend millwall chasing him for 300k. Should we be doing the same?

At £300k I'd say worth a punt (which is incidentally the most likely way to get the ball to him)

Interesting one this, would def offer a different option and has a proven record with wells.
On another note Grant Holt left out of Wigan's pre season tour, wages maybe an issue but could be a decent loan initially?

Not at this level and not unless we are reverting back to long ball/hoof ball.
IMO.

He looked decent in the games Sadford played against higher level teams and caused them all problems. He would be plan B but that's not a bad thing to have available. We played a lot of hoof it to Wells and clearly that's not going to work! I think he, or Grant Holt or that type of player would give us valuable options.
We need to size up compared to the weak, small teams we were sending out last season.
I see that Hogan has gone to Brentford.

I suspect Paterson will start the season as our back up striker. I don't think we will be able to move him on and we haven't the finances for anyone much better IMO.

We have a very very good strike pairing in Vaughan and wells keep em fit for the season which is going to be the real test and we won't need much more Hanson could be a good back up player it's wether he wants to come n sit on the bench ...although he is a fan so suppose he would anyway

Starting to think we're not going to get a new striker, at least not in this window. Ward's come out and said he wants to get a longer contract here and that he prefers to play as a striker - and he's not exactly done himself any harm by ending last season with a hat trick. Then it looks like we can't get rid of Paterson and he's apparently been working hard to get back into Robins plans. Stead.. well I don't think we could even give him away. If Vaughan and Wells stay healthy we won't even be using anyone else so I wouldn't be surprised if our striking options stay the same until January at least.

Hanson - absolutely not.
Cos he did 'well' in League 2 when playing with Wells isn't a good enough reason.
Doubt they way we want to play fits Hanson so seems highly unlikely.

I said that we need a striker. I should have clarified. We need a GOOD striker.
I said we need competition for places. I meant competition for places in the 1st team.
If Hanson's the best we can get, let's stick with what we've got.

Our first choice pairing is very, very clear and they don't need competition for places. What we need is the same as we needed last season. Someone to step in when a first choice striker is crocked and/or someone who can come on and change the game when we need to "hail Mary" in the last 15-20 minutes. Hanson looked good enough to fit that bill when I've seen him play.

You say that "our first choice pairing is very, very clear and they don't need competition for places". I would have thought that was a very good reason WHY they need competition for places. Unless either of them is injured or suspended, they're in the team pretty much regardless of form. If one or both of them are injured or suspended, there's a huge loss to our side. Someone to step in when our 1st choice is crocked or who can change the game? OK, Hanson may be a bit awkward in the air, but you could equally say that Ward can change a game with a strike from anywhere. I'm no fan of Paterson but I don't think he's any worse than Hanson - having Pato's work rate against tired legs could be every bit as effective. Maybe Carr, or Bunn could offer something - give the players that are already here a go rather than use up a wage on somebody who just isn't going to impact on the 1st team unless there's an injury crisis. I suppose the fact he's worked well alongside Nahki already is in his favour and when you're in need of a "hail Mary", somebody big & awkward might be useful if the opposition defence aren't much cop in the air. I just don't rate him.

Hanson is a much better footballer than most on here realise. Yes, he's good in the air & he aint the fastest, but he's much better on the ground than some on here would have, but then again they will only have seen him on TV a couple of times.
Having said that, my spy at Guiseley is saying Bunn is having a blinder

Hanson and Wells played really well together at Bradford and gamble might have paid off at Championship level plus little to loose at that price.

I'm fine with Paterson as back up to Wells. It's back up for Vaughan that we are in major need of. Not sure if Hanson is that man; we need someone with presence, but who can also play on the deck. Don't think it's worth signing a player to launch long balls to. Some people have suggested in the last ten minutes that may be an option, but if all you're looking for is someone to nod on long balls we may as well just shove Gerrard up front for the last ten.

Can't see any potential first 11 striker coming in unless at least one of Paterson and Stead go and free up a wage.
