Malky Mackay would be great but probably waiting for the first premiership casualty, i.e West Ham or to Norwich if they have a bad start, that's about as low as he'll drop. However I think Lennon would come and would be a great appointment, he has to prove himself and has set his sights on taking a Championship club to the Premiership. On Owen Coyle, he never applies, he expects to be contacted, said it on 5 live yesterday. Deano took a dislike to his attitude when recruiting Robins. His back catalogue has a few duffers now aswell. I guarantee Norwich won't be relegated from the Premiership this year. You (& anyone else for that matter) can have 10000/1 on with me if you think that'll happen lack of clarity in my English, meant West Ham as the premiership casualty and norwich, i.e, a top championship side as low as he would drop!

I think Malky Mackay's reputation has been a bit enhanced beyond where it really should be just because it was felt that he was unjustly sacked and that he handled the situation in quite a dignified manner. He'll probably get a job at a struggling Premiership side off the back of that so I doubt he'd come here now but I think the Championship will ultimately be his level. Similar sort of do to Adkins really.

What did Mackay do in the Prem that people think is so good? He got Cardiff promoted with a huge budget - biggest in the league that year. So no idea why a low hanging Prem club would take him on. He needs to reinvent himself and show Cardiff getting promoted was based on money alone. I also doubt he'd get any Prem job. I would think Huddersfield is an ideal spot to reinvent himself. Ole Gunnar Solskiaer might be on the list if we turn Cardiff over on saturday

Chris Hughton for me proven at this level. If not I'd go for Neil Lennon bit of a risk but probably worth taking.

I've voted from the perspective that money is not an issue - Malky Mackay but it was a close call between him & Lennon. (Imagine there's no FFP, its easy if you try ;-))
But I'm expecting to be underwhelmed.................again

well that's it then, malky it is.. just give dean a ring and then tell malky he has struck lucky through his job centre initiative... see, if you keep filling the applications in we can all be football managers, at least for a bit.

Zola? Or Chris Powell? But from list Houghton Mckay Don't think I've seen anyone mention Powell, although there's lots of threads to read through.. Maybe too much of a 'nice guy' though?

Where's the Lee Clark option? I'll bet he applies. He certainly will, after all he applied when Grayson went. Did he? Must admit he seemed to love managing town, just got abit too much for him in the end imo.

Does anyboby on this site think it possible that we could attract the likes of Mackay and Lennon to the club and i only ask this question simply because both have potential to be premier league managers if a vacancy arose Yes I do-I think Huddersfield could be perceived as a good stepping stone. If a a manager came in and got us in the top six in 2 years but then got poached by Aston Villa...So be it.

Danny Murphy? Very impressive and not up his own like some recent ex player.
Martin Keown would sort defence out.

Think Chris Powell could be a goer always liked him and a bit unfairly treated at Charlton,Lennon my number 1 choice though.

So many on the list that are not serious candidates. Thankfully Ince, Coyle, Martin Allen haven't been mentioned. Lee Clark and Jacko long gone never to return. Jacko's football brain left with Terry Yorath last time around. Billy Davies never never......

Have not heard Dean's interview.
Did he explain why Robins went?
What does proven actually mean? Lennon?
Mackay, Houghton Powell etc have all been sacked for various reason.
Equally everyone needs somebody to take a leap of faith either for a first job or another chance for those sacked.
Not easy is it!
Managers are like players all a matter of opinion.

I don't understand why so many people want Malky Mackay. He's had 2 jobs so far:
1. Took over at Watford when they were mid-table, turned them into a lower mid-table side. 2. Took over a Cardiff side that had been consistently challenging at the top of the table for years, and got them promoted.... after spending an 8 figure sum improving it. Our record signing is small fry compared to the amount he was spending. Then spent a further £40m or so & got sacked as they were rock bottom of the table.
Yes, he handled the (frankly disgraceful) treatment meted out to him by Vincent Tan with great dignity and deserves respect for that - but I'd hope for a bit more from a manager.
In other words, given a similar budget to what he could expect here, he made Watford a little bit worse. Won the league with Cardiff, but after the amount he spent, so he bloody should have!
What do people see in him that I'm missing?
