'It took 3 weeks to appoint Robins'. And look what happened - he lost the dressing room!

It’s been over two weeks since Mark Robins left the club – two weeks of a transfer window at the start of a season that could go very badly wrong if the wheels fall off. What do people think about the time taken to make a decision so far? At the commencement of the season, excluding Cup matches I think we would have expected to have 3 points from both Bournemouth and Charlton and no points from the both Cardiff and Reading. Things have not turned out as we hoped but we do have 4 points rather than perhaps the 6 we hoped for. I think too much is being made of getting anyone else in, during the transfer window, particularly with the international break after this weekend and the opening of the loan window before our next game after the international break. It seems that a new manager will have some time to assess his current players and make his assessment of where we need to strengthen. I have said before that I think the January window will be important to us, with potentially other clubs subject of a transfer embargo, so let us wait and see who the new manager is, does he bring anybody in and also see where we are in January.

I may just be getting twitchy but it's beginning to look like we're not sure what to do. Comments from Lilis in the paper (feautred on another thread) seem to suggest he's now considering making himself available - if we don't appoint within the next week, we look a bit directionless. Every day we wait could be seen as a day wasted, a day when the new gaffer works with the squad.

It all seems to be getting a bit farcical now. How many interviews do these managers need? We need to stop being so damned tight and bring in a quality manager.
If you buy bog roll for a quid from aldi it cuts your arse to ribbons, if you buy the more expensive stuff it does a better job. If I buy 5 packs of £1 bog roll they will all cut my arse to ribbons but if I buy 1 pack of the £5 quilted stuff it will last as long and do a better job of cleaning my arse.

Personally, I'd like to see us invest in a bidet...

or do what lee clark and robins did, write a 10 thousand word thesis on 'how to wipe your arse' due to it being a very complicated and difficult 'business'??
talking of round pegs in round holes, that will stop you having to wipe your arse completely, it might explode in your face though??

For me take some time and get let the interview process get the best fit available. Not convinced that our signings are dependent upon the manager and it doesn't need a Ferguson to spot where we need to recruit. Hopefully ML will keep picking up points and give us glimpses of the actual depth of the squad. Even rushing a manager in now could mean some rushed signings given the window, get the wrong manager potentially gets compounded by ill thought out quick signings, leaving less budget for loans. This could put a club in trouble.
Let's be patient.

"Need someone in with sufficient time to act in the window"
I think we've missed that boat already tbh. Whilst I accept that the favoured candidates are probably already running the rule over the squad to a certain extent, they can't do it properly until they're actually in the post. They've got to assess the squad, find areas of weakness, go through the potential transfer targets & decide upon them and still give enough time for the board to negotiate with players, agents & clubs to strike a deal before the window shuts in 4 days' time.
Strike deals once you know who you want in, and if that means loan deals with a view to a permanent transfer in the January window, so be it. I really don't see the rush.

With Lillis steadying the ship, we will keep picking points up and the squad will stay fresh.
I'd rather we wait for the right man and have him here for many a season than appoint someone for the sake of it and sack him in 18 months. I suppose at this tinme of the season it would be difficult to get someone already in a job, and, the backroom situation might not be so appealing to an experienced man.
I hope we get to the stage where our manager is being linked with other jobs because he is doing well.
Just a thought, when appointing a manager and you're in DH's position and business expertise, discounting internal procedures; would you be tempted to bring somoene in for consulation purposes? I don't mean an agent, I mean a real football man who understands different clubs' ideologies and philosophies. Is there anyone who does this? Seems logical to me.
