Since I wasn't able to get to the Charlton or Forest games, I've been quietly getting more and more excited about this one since I got my ticket last week. Not been to Vicarage Rd before and after Reading last week (one of my favourite away days of recent times), I think it's going to be a great day out. Who's going? How many of us do you reckon we'll have in the Vicarage Road end? What team do you think we'll put out/would you like to see play? Score predictions? And most importantly, where are people likely to be going for a pint pre-match?! I'd like to see the team line up as: Smithies Coady Lynch Wallace Dixon Scannell Majewski Butterfield Bunn Wells Vaughan Subs: Murphy, Hammill, Holmes, Stead, Ward, Sinnott, Billing. Head says 2-2 heart says 3-1 Town. UTT

Will be our toughest test of the season by far. Deeney and Vydra if both playing can be lethal, and Forrestieri looks to be hitting good form again and of course falls over at every opportunity.
If we get a point out of this we will have truly turned a corner and Lillis could be beatified.
No chance of Vaughan starting looking at Lillis' words on the website.
Smith looks to be injured so hope Peltier is fit again. If go with the same round pegs/round holes plan and attitude as at Reading we might get something out of the game. If Peltier is crocked as well - don't know where we turn for a right back - who do the u21's play at right back?
Murphy
Peltier Wallace Lynch Dixon
Coady Hogg
Scannell Butterfield Bunn
Wells
I've always enjoyed going to Vicarage Road - good atmosphere - reckon there will be 500-750 Town. Ground is close to Town centre so plenty of pubs / eateries within easy walking distance.

Take note, no alcohol is on sale in the away end so if you want a pre match pint then head into Watford town center

Didn't notice the comments about Vaughan. Shame. Sub appearance similar to last night perhaps then? Smith being injured made it really hard to pick the team for me. Is it not Joe Wright who plays RB in the u21's? Doubt he'll get drafted in for such a big game but Lillis has shown he believes in the u21 players. Not heard anything on Peltier, I hope he is fit for Sat.

Just a reminder to those who may not have seen elsewhere- you can specify to sit with the NSL in the away end if you'd like to. Should be a laugh.

From what I remember from 2 years ago when the hammered us Vydra played in the hole behind Deeney and shredded us as no one ever picked him up. Hopefully with Coady sitting in front of the back four that problem could be solved this time around.

Lillis went pear shaped after about 3 games last time around

We've sold 600 tickets according to ticket office today.
Was a good day out at the end of last season (the 4-1 win helped).

Last two times I've been there its been to Southern patrons meetings in Drury's Hotel but I wouldn't recommend it if you didn't have to go there - so nowhere to recommend, but there always seems to be plenty of pubs on the walk from Drury's to the ground.

Think we will take about 800. Our part of the stand holds 2,100 so plenty of room with good views and the deralict stand next to us is half way complete . Worst thing is the lack of alcohol in the away end. Designated away pub is The Oddfellows just 5 minutes walk from the ground or most pubs in the town centre welcome away fans. Best bets are Wetherspoons 'Moon Under The Water' or Walkabout if you want to watch the lunchtime game.
Watford are starting to play decently, although Vydra has been crap so far, it's likely to be Deeney and Forestieri on Saturday, the latter usually seems to play well against us. They will keep the ball A LOT and have lots of attacking threat (Abdi) and pace (especially if Anya and Dyer play), however they haven't looked so strong at the back and also have rumours that many of the players do not like the gaffer.
Last 2 visits very contrasting, a freezing cold spanking 2 years ago and we returned the favour last day of last season when Lolley and Ward had great games. Looking forward to this one and hoping the NSL lead the way on the singing front. My money would be another 4-0 Watford or 1-0 Town with a late winner. Deeney signed a new contract today so Hornets fans will be buzzing and he said that Watford 'owe Huddersfield one for the spanking they got last year'.
Safe journey see you down there!

Oddfellows mentioned above is a good pub. Close to ground, always full of Town fans, and last season they did a bbq with reasonably priced burgers etc.

Is Oddfellows the Irish pub round the corner from the away end, with the beer garden/terrace at the back?
Went in there last season if so, not a bad pub.

We'll take 1000 and Vaughan will score a last minute winner infront of the travelling fans to make it 3-2

Normally I have a gig on last Sat in month but been put off till next weekend so I can now make this match. Rail prices/times from Nottm are ridiculous so will have to drive - what's the parking like within sensible walking from ground? Google maps suggests a lot of residential areas close by but could be parking permits only. Anyone know? pay on gate OK for this one?

Drove from Canterbury and parked in the multi-storey in the town centre. Ten minute walk at most to the ground.

Its easy to get to town centre multistory from M1 and a 10 minute walk to the ground. Most of the streets around are resident parking or restricted on match days. My daughter works in the hospital next door and that has a big car park but NHS pricey - about £6 last time I went in there but only a couple of minutes to the ground. Don't know if they have match day restrictions. Yes you can pay on the gate.

Cheers for the info guys, I have easy access to M1 at my end so it's looking like a goer for the multi-storey and a stroll. I'll check my sat nav for where the car park is. Watford are a good side again this season so no easy away points, I've never been to Vicarage Rd so one to tick off.

First time I went they had Ross Jenkins, John Barnes and Luther Blisset! Thinking further back than last May there was a great game with Peter Ndluv and Delroy Facey tearing them apart and before that a blinder from Darren Bullock.

Great memories for me from 1983 as i got to know the vice president of Watford who owned Smith coaches and was staying in the luxury hotel in Torquay where i worked . We got chatting about football and Mr Smith invited me up for the second leg of the Milk cup match at Watford where I recieved top draw treatment in the directors V I P luxury lounge and had a long chat with chairman Elton John who amazed me with his knowledge of Huddersfield Town Football club . Town had won the first leg 2-1 at Leeds road and and the second leg at Watford was expected to be an odds on win for Watford especially as they had recently defeated a top team in a European competition which i believe was Bayer Laverkusan. The end result in the second leg match was 2-2 resulting in a shock 4-3 aggregate win for Town and witnessed one of the best Town performances i had ever seen with backing from our fanatical supporters who never fail impress . After the match, Mr Smith who i believe was on the F A committee, invited me to stay overnight at his luxury property which saved me a long drive home to Torquay and our friendship contiued with him later sending me 6 complimentary F A Cup final tickets for the forthcoming Man utd v Everton match which were were gold dust at the time and suprised how suddenly all my friends at work could not speak highly enough of Huddersfield Town thus we all had a wonderful day out at Wembley in one of the biggest crowds ever seen in the stadium. Happy days

Watford (A) will always remind me of the 4-0 pumping we got a couple of seasons ago. And the COLDThat was my first trip to Watford & my god, you were right to put 'cold' in bold & capitals! I'm going again Saturday & stopping over in Watford Central Travelodge. Think it will be a bit warmer this time - just need the result to change as well! Going to be tough though. I see Watford are up to their usual tricks - as their first goal against Leeds clearly demonstrated!
