We have real competition for places now that's the brilliant thing.
2 decent keepers
2 decent right backs smith & pelts
2 decent left backs: Robinson & Dixon
3 championship Cb's & a developing one
2 defensive midfielders- one hugely promising youngster in coady, one admittedly with a bit to prove but capable championship performer in Hogg.
Creative midfielders: Butterfield and majewski- experienced championship proven players. Both have real bit of quality about them.
Wide players: Scannell, Ward, Lolley, Hammill. These guys definitely divide opinion on here but they are all capable at this level and offer different things. The fact other championship teams were in for Ward and Scanz says a lot I think.
Vaughan & Wells. I think we all know how devastating this partnership could be. Obviously fitness issues remain but we have bunn developing nicely into a useful option and for me stead looks like a decent alternative off the bench if needed. He looks much fitter his season.
Our squad is in great shape this year now. In fact I think it's the best squad we've had for decades.
Huge credit must go to dean Hoyle. What a chairman. Excellent delivery from the whole board from scouting to the business.
Fantastic prospect for a hungry manager to come in now.

Bizarre how Hammill isn't in Not for me it isnt.....when did he last have a good game? Talent - yes.....but we aint seen much of it for a while now. Looking at the squad though there is now genuine good competition in all positions........ That has to augur well for the future and onwards and upwards!

Some shrewd patient signings by DH & RW. With the right manager to gel the quality & depth we now possess we should start proving our Championship credentials.

Great business done this window, but I still have my reservations over the defence until I see them play together. Hudson has the quality at this level, but even the glowing reference from the Cardiff fan came with a couple of disclaimers. Lynch can be great when he wants to be but is Mr. Inconsistent, whilst Gerrard is prone to lapses of judgement and concentration. As for the full-backs, I've yet to see Robinson play, Smith is still learning his trend and Peltier looks a bit rusty. There's certainly a capable defence in there, so let's hope the man they bring in to manage this lot can get them working together as a cohesive unit.
Sorry to be the killjoy on an otherwise positive thread.

I agree that a big strong forward who can hold the ball up would be a nice addition to strengthen our squad. We have some good players and hopefully Hudson is going to have that Barry Horne effect I saw someone else mention.
Bunn and Wells are more likely to play this season than Vaughan so a big rough lad to take the flak might be a goo foil for them. Bunn has done very well considering how long he has been with us and his scoring proves he is worth the punt. Jake Charles is one I look forward to seeing but he isnt that big is he??

When you put it like that we do look like having a decent Championship squad. Here's hoping we can move on Paterson and use the freed up wage to fund another Championship quality striker to add further competition to the striking department

Smithies/Murphy
Smith----Hudson----Lynch----Robinson
Coady
Hammill---Majewski/Butts---Lolley
Wells----Vaughan

Massive fan of Bunn at the moment too, and I think he will have a lot to offer, but he'd still be backup striker. If we play 3 up top, I'd happily see him on either side.
