Always remember the homemade "Alex Dyer - Feet of Fire" banner in the Kilner Bank. Re-make it

Come to think of it - if we were to come up with a HTFC XI that got the most undeserved stick - Alex Dyer would probably be one of the first names on the team sheet. I'm struggling to think of many that were treated as unfairly by the crowd as he was. His name probably didn't help. I wonder if when we hit a poor run of form, the moniker "Alex Dire" will resurface. Surely dave cowling would be first name on that team sheet It's difficult to disagree with you on that.

From memory (which could be a bit foggy) wasn't the problem with Dyer really that Town had finished the previous season in terrible form and despite the fans knowing that new signings were needed to prevent the next season becoming a relegation scrap all we got was Alex Dyer on a free. He ended up just being a scapegoat and symbolised the frustration with Horton and the board.

It was either that or the fact he was completely useless...."fifty pence head" someone named him near me because every header ended up in the Kilner Bank (apart from the one he scored with against the Hammers.) Anyway, all int past...welcome Chris and Alex!

There are some at Charlton that think if Dyer had walked away when Powell was sacked they would have gone down. Him staying on and helping Riga had an influence on them staying up so he's got some coaching nouse.

Although people I know down SE London rate him as a coach. As for me resurfacing, I mostly comment when I go to games. I don't get to many these days so don't comment.

I wasn't referring to you (although I can see why you thought that was the case!). I simply meant the name that many people gave him when he was a player might resurface if we have a few bad results. I'm guessing you never saw any of the players in shawsie's list (or quite a few more I can think of that didn't make his list)? Either way, as you rightly imply, how good a player he was is kind of irrelevant. Some of the greatest coaches & managers in the game were crap on the pitch & vice versa.

Shite for Town, easily in the all time shitest town 11. Might be a good coach though. Nowhere near that chosen few!!!! Where would he get in in this lot..... Clarke Hodouto Sharp Tucker (capt) Duggan Williams Kelly Walsh Lampkin Hay Macari Subs Lewis Odoherty Barham Cecere Youds Ashcroft Beresford There are some abysmal players in that team. I'd argue Youds should be in the team and not on the bench. Probabaly captain material too. That kid Sharp is without doubt the worst professional footballer in history. At any club.
