It is the greatest "what if?" in football .....had Shanks stayed with us and had had the backing of the Board. He was a wonderful man, though slightly unhinged. At Town he chain smoked (at Liverpool he gave it up presumably)and would speak of absolutely nothing but football. That great Town sportsman and artist, Ken Taylor, did two portraits of Shanks in the late 1950s. Ken Taylor has one (which Shanks signed) and the other hangs in my sitting room in Almeria, Spain. I'll have a drink with him today. Happy birthday Shanks.
