A two-stick banner is a great way to add colour and passion to your terrace, they are very popular among German football fans were they are known as a Doppelhalter – Double Handler. Here’s a brief insight into how to make one. What do you need? A Template (Picture, Logo, Design) Fabric (Poly-Cotton is a good fabric to use - If fabric is to be over Ground Regs is MUST have a Fire Certificate) Fabric Paint Brushes Two Plastic Rods (If over 1m will need authorisation from the Safety Team) Something to create the seems (You can stitch them up or use fabric glue. If youre no good at sewing then ask your Gran ) Starting OffOnce you have the fabric, you need stitch it up. Of course you can also do this after you've drawn the design on it, however, it is easier to do this in advance so that the picture is actually "the middle". A good and proven size is between 60x90cm. Anything beyond this can be troublesome and heavy on the arms when holding the banner aloft (This size will also be allowed in the ground without the need for a fire certificate) Making the SeemsFirst fold the longer sides (A), then the top and bottom of the flag over the side folds (B). Once you have done this, you will needto then sew/do something to hold the seems in place. On the bottom of the banner don’t sew the bottom edge corners! The flagpoles are slotted in here. Your DesignIf you are good at drawing, just crack on and draw your design onto the material ready to be painted. If not, then use a design programe on a PC to create your design. Once done upload the image to picslice, this allows the image to be blown up and printed over several sheets of a4. You can then stick these together to create one big image. Once you have put your images together, you can tape/lay your fabric over the picture and begin to paint as per the image below: When finished it will look like this: Once its all dry simply insert the2 poles within the holes at the bottom and it's job done For inspiration for designs, check out this thread - z6.invisionfree.com/UltrasTifosi/index.php?showtopic=3493. Loads of designs from all over the world,

Also does anyone have a link to the clubs flag policy? Here you go matey....... Note the bit in bold. Huddersfield Town Flags, Banners and Surfers Policy on Football match days Huddersfield Town and the Stadium Operator want to encourage an exciting atmosphere at its games and encourages fans to bring flags, banners and large ‘surfing’ flags – but these must adhere to the guidelines set by the Club in tandem with the Stadium’s Safety Team, as stipulated below. Flags, Surfers & Banners - General 1. The Stadium Operator reserves the right to refuse to allow flags, surfers or banners to be displayed, particularly if content is considered to be offensive, discriminatory, defamatory or inflammatory. 2. Any item that the Stadium Operator or any of its employees believe could potentially be used as a weapon and/or compromise public safety is strictly prohibited and will be confiscated. 3. Any item above the area of 600mm x 1000mm must be flame retardant and have a fire safety certificate to prove so, provided in advance of match day. Flags 1. The flag pole should be no bigger than 7mm in diameter and 1 metre in length. The flag pole material should be plastic and be rounded at the ends. 2. Flags should be presented to stewards prior to entry to the Stadium where they will be inspected and approved prior to entry. 3. The Stadium Operator reserves the right to confiscate any flags brought into the Stadium without being approved prior to entry. 4. Supporters wishing to introduce flags on poles longer than 1 metre must contact the Stadium Operator in advance via email via safety.officers@ksdl.org.uk. Subject to advance agreement with the Stadium Operator, such flags on poles may be waved prior to kick-off but must not obstruct the views of others and under no circumstances are to be waved after kick-off. 5. Flags which are not subject to Section 4 above may generally be waved in the Stadium, however, the Stadium Operator reserves the right, if appropriate, to ask supporters to resist from waving flags in certain circumstances. Surfers & Banners 1. On occasion, where the Stadium Operator designates a sterile area (e.g. empty block of seats) as available within the Stadium, it may be possible for banners to be placed in the sterile area. Permission to do so must first be obtained from the Stadium Operator in advance via email to safety.officers@ksdl.org.uk or, in circumstances where this is not possible, by a senior steward prior to entry on a matchday. 2. Banners will not be allowed where they may block advertising, signage, exit routes, restrict the views of other supporters or in any way compromise the safe operation of the Stadium. 3. It is the responsibility of supporters who bring banners and surfers into the Stadium to ensure they are securely fastened at all times. The Stadium Operator reserves the right to remove any articles that have not been appropriately secured or become loose during a match. 4. The use of surfers or surfer-style banners designed to be passed over supporters' heads, will not be allowed after kick-off. 5. Supporters wishing to introduce new surfers and banners must contact the Stadium Operator in advance via email to safety.officers@ksdl.org.uk. The banner/surfer must be presented to the Stadium Operator at least three working days before match day with the appropriate fire certificate. The banner/surfer must also be presented prior to entry to the Stadium where it will be inspected by a senior steward. 6. Any surfers or banners brought into the Stadium without being approved by the Stadium Operator will be confiscated. 7. A register of banners and surfers which meet fire safety criteria will be kept by the Stadium Operator. A copy will be given to the Safety Officer to assist stewards in assessing approved articles. 8. The Stadium Operator reserves the right to change this policy as it deems fit or as required by the Local Authority, Football Authorities or any other body that helps to determine the safety of spectators at the Stadium. 9. Whilst the Stadium Operator endeavours to take good care of banners and surfers that are brought into the Stadium, it accepts no responsibility for any loss or damage that may occur at any time.

Good stuff.
As soon as folk start to make stuff like this, the more it'll encourage others to do the same.
Designs can be anything really. Have a look round the Web, some are really simple and don't need to be as detailed as the one in guide.

We were discussing this yesterday Pozza, as much as the big professionally printed flags look good, we need loads of wavy flags with different designs in the end as well.

I have some spare poles but they're about 20mm thick... I was gonna make some wavy flags aswell but is it worth the risk? Will they really measure the diameter of the pole?

Not worth the risk for now mate. Slow and steady steps are being taken to get flags in the ground. Let's just stick with the flags we've had passed for now so that we don't get their backs up..

A few points if I may: 1. If you fancy having ago yourself DO IT! The hardest part for me was the painting designing and it only took so long because I had to wait for paint to dry etc. The sewing bit is fairly easy if you have a relative/friend who has a sewing machine... The size of mine is 60cm Wide and 80cm tall NOTE: I think you can just use regular acrylic paints instead of (really expensive) fabric paints (this was my mistake) the only difference is that fabric paints don't wash out of the fabric when in the washing machine... 2. I still have some black paint left so if anybody wants to suggest a design or something I'll make another and donate it to the NSL or sell it or something... 3. I'm sorry if i'm stood in front of you and block your view 4. I tried out making a 1 stick flag in the same size and it looked good... So might have a proper go at making one of them for the wigan match!
