Win 3-1 tomorrow and this thread will be on page 3 of the forum by Fri... Such is the fickle nature of football fans... Maybe we should just ask to drop 2 divisions, retain the same squad and see us rip teams apart - 100 points plus season... The caveat would be that we'd insist on staying in L2 so that our fans would get accustomed to 'success'... to be fair, we had some good times in L2........Who could forget such gems as Colchester away etc.....

It was poor at times and I think the formation wasnt right, especially with Butterfield wasted on the wing. We just lacked any creativity and lobbed balls up to the smallest man on the pitch! I am not a fan of Stead's but he did ok trying to get onto things but until Ward cam on he didnt have any quality balls to do anything with. No time to panic though, got to have faith that Powell will realise what needs to change for tomorrow and hopefully we can all be positive again!

typical Town over the years. Get an inflated crowd then put in an abject display. yesterday was my second game after Bournemouth.
Went down with a season ticket holder but still ended up paying £24 not the £10 .. my fault for not reading the small print and not being prepared to haul around to the ticket office at 5 to 3.
Didn't see anything that inspires me to pay another £24 for the forseeable future. Next game likely to be Rotherham away - beats going to the in-laws for xmas...

the old chestnut of 'fickle football supporters' isn't going to wash with town..
this is our 3rd season as 'new boys' to this division. we knew what was wrong when we came up but a good start was allowed to paper over the cracks. Even an end of season game that saw us relegated at least twice in 90 minutes wasn't the warning that was heeded. Clear and obvious errors make fans nervous and 2 managers 'losing' the dressing room in fairly quick succession are clear signs that the footballing side of the club isn't going as well as it should.
A new manager usually brings a performance, please note I didn't say result, but it didn't in our case with Robins and now again with Powell. Again a number of players appeared out of position and undeniably spent most of the match looking lost. The Vaughan situation has to be resolved, we simply have to release the money being wasted there and Dean certainly has to be 'investigating very thoroughly' our inability to get players back on the pitch in a reasonable or acceptable amount of time.
Stead did ok for me on Saturday but we spent over a million quid on a striker who is being wasted and looks increasingly more pissed off as the games go by, we brought in 2 central midfielders who have looked useful as a pair and then stick one wide and shove peltier into the mix who looked lost at sea on Saturday..
We have spent the last god knows how long getting too deep defensively too quickly and then staying there for too long and conceding crap goal after crap goal because of it, we bring in Hudson(who looked good by the way) and then give the game away at the death again by hanging about in the box like a bad smell.
We are not 'fickle' just pointing out the bleeding obvious that hasn't been tackled properly since we became "new boys" in this tough division. Getting a bit pissed off with de ja vu incidents happening on the pitch and off it.
14000 people all shouting 'get out' cant be wrong, can they? given the result of our being on top of our own keeper, no they cant be wrong.
If in that 90 minutes powell cant see whats wrong then we chose the wrong bloke because all the failings were there clear as day and that was against a hard working but reasonably ordinary boro side.

I wonder if managers just try and be too 'clever' sometimes..Lillis just did it simple and galvanised the team...Murphy used to do the same..then we bring a 'professional' in like Robins and Powell and I start scratching my head thinking what the f*** are you doing ?
Why do they tinker and experiment so much...it's like they plan the game on a computer, press the buttons and bingo that's the team for saturday when all it needs is just plain common sense, isn't it ?
I'll give Powell 6 games to get the thing sorted to be fair, he deserves that, but I'm hoping for an improvement on tuesday night...even a little will help.. In some peverse way maybe he will learn more from that rubbish against boro' than if we'd played well, or snatched a point.
Here's hoping anyway..

detox,, as above.. the selection on Saturday looked like it had been 'worked out' with pro stats and manuals followed by computer graphics and 'intense' footballing discussions with numerous members of staff. I watched a 'coach' talk to Tomlin before he came on as sub at leeds for boro, loads of flip charts and pointing and swooping of hands. Tomlin came on and smiled at a team mate and said "im playing down the left" ?? that's it... unless you have to don't play people where they are not comfortable and don't over complicate it. The team needs to work hard in a system that they fully comprehend and are easy with, the better players then are just able to do the extra required to get the required result. really only two instructions to give most of the team, what they must do when we have the ball and what they must do when we haven't, anything else is superfluous..

As 2400 says, too many folks over complicate football. At its best the ball does the work most of the time not the players. Too much usage of "deep lying no 10", "between the lines" etc etc - yes at professional level there is a need to change the way you play at times, and that should be a given for lads who do it for a living but ffs just play players in positions they are comfortable initially. When you are working day by day then introduce new systems/roles for them, but saturday made no sense as it completely blunted butterfield and coady who arguably were our best two at watford..... The above said, the manager cant legislate for stupid errors, and no matter how much we say smith/wallace are young etc it doesnt excuse basic schoolboy mistakes like letting it bounce and pulling shirts when the ball is yards away!!! I find it quite amusing that some are having a pop at wells/vaughan etc - yet again on sat we scored and didnt pick up a point! Thats 15 goals against in 6 league games i believe ---- if that stat continues at 75% of that going forward we will go down because we wont score 2 every week to pick up a point! Hudson was excellent on sat considering it was his first game in an untried formation......but unless he can cajole better from the rest then it will be a long winter for all of us! I would take a 0-0 now tomorrow - not because it does us much good table wise....but because it might give much needed confidence to a back line and keeper who are bereft of it right now!!!!

Lets be more positive Wigan are nothing, round pegs etc and we can take all 3 points ...but set up stupid like Bunn and Butterfield out wide in a 442 and watch us struggle and hoof
