I know many have probs already said similar but today was a major setback, disappointment & waste of the clubs efforts getting an extra 2-3k fans down to watch this disjointed rubbish. Under lillis we were at least improving & had shape & organisation. Completely the opposite today, all over the place & speaking to honest boro fans they admit they are not a great side, not playing particularly well but didn't need to be to beat this shower of sh1te served up from town today. One spark Hudson! Usual square pegs again. Why not just go back to basics, keep it simple, play to your strengths & at least give the opposition problems to think about - like keep it solid & have a go town! Awful!

Can't believe you're surprised !! Town have been experts in failing to deliver in front of increased crowds or in big games for years. Today was just the latest episode.

Play a straight 4-4-2 and we will go down, with what we got we still get bossed in midfield...we got lots of talent at this club in Scanz Majevski Hammill Bunn Lolley and Billing, what Powell needs is to find a system or set up to utilise them with Wells Butterfield and Coady. If it means a return to 3-5-2 so be it to avoid a return to the hoofball we saw today which didnt get the result or "the overachievement" CP and Dean desire.

On current form anything above the relegation will be an overachievement.

I'm totally shocked we aged a centre midfielder out wide and Peltier in centre mid.
Great start Powell.

Powell would have been better sitting observing with his arms folded watching Lillis in charge today. Would have learned more & i believe wouldn't have thrown away another 3 points & probably won with Lillis in charge. Yet another own goal by the club & a very poor start under our new manager.

Agree that today was a waste of time. Vaughan getting another injury and the hoofball shite upto nahki was painful to watch! In fact it's the first time I've asked myself if I want to go to the next game. I'll still go as Im a ST holder but it's fast becoming a chore.

Said it in another thread, huge own goal from Powell today. Play the same midfield and forwards as at Watford and stick Peltier at RB, Hudson in for Wallace and Robinson LB and no one would have questioned the selection regardless of the scoreline. Just try to leverage the positivity surrounding Lillis and the improved team spirit of late.
Doing what he has done today has made a large portion of fans question him already. I'm seriously pissed off about today. 3 points chucked down the drain before kick off.
Scannell. A few positive performances in a row, blocked his move to Millwall and then drop him to the bench, not even to make an appearance. That'll help his confidence

Very strange from Powell and not the best way to get the fans on board. Still, we all make mistakes and the key now is that he learns from his. We all want him to succeed, and we will forgive mistakes if he learns from them and takes us forward. Here's hoping for a much improved performance against a Wigan team who are struggling for results themselves.

Today was most definitely a case of square pegs in round holes.. The complete opposite of what the club has spoken about for weeks now! It's not like we had a glut of injuries either.. Peltier in CM & Butterfield out wide clearly didn't work, surely Powell recognises this & have a rethink for the Wigan game.. Yes he's still learning about the players but he knows enough about the players to know that it's not their natural positions which completely flies in the face of what he said at the Q&A.. Not one player put in a shift today, although i felt for Nakhi, who had ZERO support after Vaughan went off!
Coady & Butterfield back in CM Tues please Mr Powell!

I can't believe what some are posting on here! One fucking match you've given him, and slated! Brilliant. Boro have signed loads of players on high wages, got Chelsea players/connections. We were undone by a cracking free kick and robbed by a penalty in the dying minutes. FFS! I just can't be arsed...

Sorry, we'll overlook the fact that we just played extremely poorly and lost against a very mediocre side who may have spent alot, but performed pretty poorly themselves. Powell made some strange decision today, decisions that are rightly being discussed. Doesn't mean he isn't being given a chance. Everyone wants him to succeed and take Town forward, but that doesn't mean he's above constructive criticism - one game in, or a 100 games in. There was alot to be worried about in today's performance - and to suggest we were robbed a deserved point by a dodgy penalty is so blinkered its untrue. Its right to put things in context (Powell's first match, etc) but we can't be blinkered. Powell's first match or not, that was downright rubbish this afternoon and everyone needs to up their game if we are have any chance of staying in this division.

I wouldn't mind but not one player can walk off the pitch & say they gave it their best.. Not even close! The only attack in the 2nd half & we scored, coincidently that was when we brought on a wide player & put Butterfield back in CM.. MASSIVE improvement needed on Tuesday by everyone.

If I'd had to pick a side with the sole intention of not conceding goals. I probably would have picked the same back 4 and 2 central midfielders as Powell did. He comes to us with the reputation (first and foremost) of making his sides hard to beat, doesn't he? I think his strategy was to keep it really tight for three quarters of the game and then make the attacking change in the last quarter, to pinch the winner. Didn't quite work, thanks to that great free kick. And it certainly wasn't pretty. But I can see some sense in what he did. It isn't going to be pretty this season. Let's all get used to it. Survival is the name of the game.

No time to panic, Powell has a real wealth of experience and track record in this division. Just slightly surprised he got it so wrong and there was sign of improved spirit.

we're going to see some reet shite before powell nails it.
4-4-2 does not work with the players we have. we should have gone 4-3-3 or 3-5-2.
stead (good game) ain't the answer. beginning to wonder if wells is good enough to lead the line. way too small / lightweight.

i would've thought there should be a more indepth handover were the new Manager gets to understand the workings of his new players, basically shadowing for a couple of weeks

Starting from scratch and abandoning the football ethos is a fast track to relegation. I don't give a fuck who is in charge or for how long, saying what i see and yesterday was the worst debut from a manager I've ever seen just because of the manner of the performance and fact we looked SO much worse than the last few games. The fact we had a chance to get a point was through good luck and nothing else. Hoping Tuesdays team is much more sensible, as we were plus Hudson would have been the sensible way forward and i guess the one lillis would have recommended. Sent from my GT-I9505 using proboards

I'm still absolutely baffled how any sane person can do what he did yesterday in breaking up the best part of our team this season.

It was scandalous that we didn't see Scannell on the pitch on Saturday. How can a management team make such a horrendous mistake!

maybe Powell has a plan to make us look as bad as possible to lure teams into a false sense of security, then one cold night in February when least expected BANG we play well and get 3 points

I've looked at the pen again and it was probably a pen afterall. In the heat of the moment and with the overall outrage and disgust of over 14,000 Town fans, it kinda swayed me. Overall I think we had some good spells of play then they dominated a bit. We could easy had a draw. To say we were dog shit etc, just beyond ridiculous.

While I was disappointed at the result (2 minutes from a point)please tell how we managed to score if we didn't "have any good spells of play"? THAT statement is "ridiculous"

Win 3-1 tomorrow and this thread will be on page 3 of the forum by Fri... Such is the fickle nature of football fans...
Maybe we should just ask to drop 2 divisions, retain the same squad and see us rip teams apart - 100 points plus season... The caveat would be that we'd insist on staying in L2 so that our fans would get accustomed to 'success'...
