Surely deserves a chance. Think Alex needs to be taken out of the firing line for a bit. Always looks at the moment like a bo##ock is about to happen.
Murphy might also bring a bit more experience into our defensive duties.

I agree, might give the other players more confidence too to see him.

Good idea, I reckon Smithies needs a kick up the arse right now as he knows he is safe and is coasting again. Dropping him may just get him working harder again if nothing else.

Smithies has been our number one for at least 5 years and is still young for a goalkeeper so plenty of time for him to develop. I rate him, but when I've seen him this year he looks as though his confidence is shot (whether that is because he's made mistakes or people getting his back I don't really care); when we were playing well at the top of League 1 his distribution was one of his strong points, whereas now it looks like a weakness - players that struggle with kicking often find the cause is a lack of self belief. A confident goalkeeper is an asset to a defence as the defenders can trust him to do his job - I don't see a lot of trust at the moment. Give him a rest and a bit of time out of the spotlight. Give him a chance to get his head back together. Gee him up and get him to believe in himself again, then put him back in the team.

I thought Smithies did well against Wigan. Still No.1 for me without defensive errors could well have kept a blank against L666s.

If hes the keeper that was used as the players were doimg their pre match shooting drill vs Middlesbrough, he's nowhere near as good as Smithies.

Rather than come out with all this negativity concerning Murphy ("not proven at Championship level", "sicknote/low key games" etc) why don't you look into his playing record just a little bit, you moron? He's played something like 150 games in the Championship for Scunthorpe and Coventry City, which is considerably more than Smithies has, as well as a couple of Premier League games for West Brom. I'm also basing my opinion on having seen him a couple of times for Scunthorpe against Town and also having seen him play for Coventry three times during the previous two seasons.

MORON Its you who is the moron . You give us a detailed report on Murphys impressive past playing record but fail to give one single reason why he has not been given a championship start. Smithies is not exactly in the form of his life but he is still Powells first choice keeper. My point is , Murphy might be a decent keeper but has he been signed to play a similar role to the retired Bennett who spent most of his time sat on the bench.

Judging by your posting history and lack of command of the English language, I'd say "moron" was about right for you. You did not say "not proven at Championship level WITH TOWN", you said "not proven at Championship level", and I contend Murphy's playing record shows that he IS proven at Championship level! Is that clear enough for you now? As to why Murphy has not yet played a league game for Town yet, Smithies was a near certainty to start the season, we're only eight games into the season and Powell has only been in charge for three of them. They are all factors that help explain why Murphy has not yet started, but that could easily change soon. So, you comment that Murphy is "not proven at Championship level" is frankly, moronic. Moron.

What are you talking about you arrogant arsehole. I said in my post that Murphy needs to be given a ( PROPER CHANCE ) to prove himself at championship level , and its you who needs reading lessons to be able to command the English language . Proper chance ,meaning give Murphy a few games to get match fit and then see if he can alter the results in Towns favour. Any opportunity given to a player is normally assessed on his current up to date form and not past history . . As you seem to know so much about Murphy, can you give us an up to date progress report on the player, especially as you say that keepers position could change soon.

I will repeat my above post for those who misread it . Murphy needs to be given a ( proper chance ) to prove himself at championship level. Proper chance, meaning Murphy needs to be given a few games to get match fit, and then see if he can alter the results in Towns favour. My other post on this same subject read, i feel Murphy was signed as a sicknote/low key game replacement for Smithies . This might be his second option and a similar role to what Bennett played.

Sick and tired of seeing smithies make basic goalkeeping errors.
Give Murphy a chance and let Smithies come back bigger and better in a few months.
