If Mansfield want Carr, they can have him. Rewind 6 weeks - many on here would have said, "if they want Scannell they can have him".

That lad has certainly hit a scoring upturn in his career. Don't think he's ever been a bad player, just never got a proper run in the team at Town. Clark messed him about too much with his constant tinkering of the team.

Clark messed him about too much with his constant tinkering of the team. I disagree, that season we scored plenty of goals and Garner made 10 starts and 6 sub appearances, his last start was the home defeat to Hartlepool at that point he'd started in a third of our wins and half of our losses, we had scored 52 times in 32 league games and sat 3rd in the table. He didn't happen for him at Town but IMO he had plenty of opportunities. He played twice as much for his parent club Watford and only managed a solitary goal for them. He has only really produced for Carlisle, Scunthorpe (briefly on loan) and Preston. I'm sure Watford and Forest fans would say his stay at their club was hardly successful. Forest notably spending over a million for him and getting a return of 9 league goals in 3 seasons. Far too easy to blame Clark as is fashionable on here. We've had other players that have produced everywhere other than Town and then some that only appeared to do well at Town. IMO there wasn't any calls for him to be retained when his loan expired that year.

Exactly I remember swapping the free scoring Roberts for rocket Ron and it looked from his previous scoring record like we had bought a dud

Just seen Carr's goal on FLS. Can't decide whether it was clever movement on his part or rank bad defending on York's part, so I'll say his movement off the ball was cleverer than York's defending! Plus, it's difficult to read too much into a couple of minutes highlights but it's encouraging.
Hope he does well & if (as I still think will be the case) he doesn't make it here, hopefully he can get a career in lower leagues.
