Which team is the best at defending set pieces? Do they man Mark or zone defend? Do they have men on the posts? Do they clear and get out? Is there a statto anorak site with these stats? Corners, free kicks?
More importantly what should CP do to sort it?

We just don't seem to be any good at scoring set pieces yet we always concede them.
that's the way it's been for as long as I can remember.

Think the last time we scored from a corner was Lynch v Yeovil last Xmas!
Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Think Wallace has got one from a corner since then but agree our record at both ends has been poor for years. Weshould have the height with Holt, Hudson and Lynch/Gerrard to be a threat

Butterfield set Wallace up from a corner at Cardiff I think. And to be fair, until today I've thought his set pieces have been ok. Nothing amazing or owt, but decent enough. The few he had today were appalling. Which happens.
Our defending of set pieces is even more appalling though. Which happens. Too much.
Best side on display today though, by a stretch too. I'd hate to watch Ipswich if that's how they always play. We remain unbeaten since Leeds. Huge game next weekend. Bit of a litmus test for us. If we get something from that, I can only see good things for us this season. Not suggesting a playoff push etc, but a comfortable season without fear of a looming trapdoor. Which would be progress, and with the youthful look to our current squad, it'd bode well for next season.

Butterfield, who otherwise had a very decent game, just couldn't get the set pieces right. Dixon similarly. Agree we looked a much better team and squad than Ipswich. They really need some pace up front.

thepowerofgoals.blogspot.com/2012/11/defending-your-corner-anatomy-of-stoke.htmlWith a conversion rate of 3%, it is almost criminal to allow a goal from a corner. A good article about corner conversion rates, focuses on Stoke. The key defensively, is to deny the run of the attackers. Through moving screens and blocking positions taken up by defensive players. Attacking the ball is almost secondary to denying an attacker, runs to the ball. I am not suggesting Town should build a team like Stoke or Ipswich for that matter, as set pieces are almost a separate game within a game. Now this is an area where a proper "football minded" coach can make the difference in improving defensive conversion rates. Basically restricting attacking players to static jumps at the ball, rather than accelerated attacking headers.

From what Ive seen of Hudson so far, Gerrard is still our strongest defender in the air and because of that him playing would help us defend set pieces. I rate Hudson though and not sure a hudson gerrard partnership wouldn't be a bit vulnerable to pace, even though i know they played together at cardiff. Hudson is a shoe in the start so not sure how gerrard is going to get back in unless Lynch gets banned/loses all his form.

Not many players i've seen who can comfortably take a corner with either foot.. Pilkington is the only other I recollect in a town shirt? Keeps the opposition keeper on his toes anyway!

I'd totally forgot about Pilkington doing it too. Short memory, not for the first time, as the missus would testify.
