Who is the Town player in the Examiner picture in their article on the above game ? Is it Mick Meegan?

That certainly looks like Steve Smith. I was there on the main terrace with my dad. We took a small wooden stool for me to stand on so I could see properly. Obviously the biggest crowd I was ever in at Leeds Road, although my dad was in the 67 thousand odd record crowd. Can I also just say that DATM is probably the only site where an intelligent debate on Ched Evans can run alongside a thread that includes a "bits" versus "scraps" debate. That's why I enjoy it. UTT

It's definitely Steve Smith. I was in the Cowshed that day it was the FA CUP 5th Rd! Me and my were in The Cowshed by 12.30pm, it was a massive crowd of 49,514 and by kick off time The Shed was rammed to the point where you couldn't stand in the same place for more than five seconds. Stevie Smith scored in the first minute and the place went completely bonkers. Sadly, we eventually lost 1-2 and Wednesday went to the Final. I'll never forget the journey home to Thornhill Dewsbury that day, we arrived home at 9pm, such was the volume of traffic on Leeds Road.
Also, me and my dad had decided to go to the Cup Final that year no matter who got there but we also decided to follow the team who beat us. We beat Hartlepool at home in the 3rd Rd and Plymouth Argyle away in Rd 4. so it was Wednesday next. Gives me goose bumps thinking about the roar of that crowd! Great Days and Great, Great memories.

At least Ray Wilson got his FA Cup Winners medal in that final. Pretty good year for him, you might say !!!!!

What a great snap, how Smith made it as a footballer with 3 feet is beyond me. Were the shirt sponsors some kind of "removal cream" company?
