Is it fair to speculate on the personality's of players on an open forum? We pay them to play football

not bothered wether footballers are charitable, friendly or personable. If they do their job and don't do anything illegal or incredibly stupid in their private lives to affect their ability to earn that money then they can crack on with it..
you can as a famous person, give money anonymously or otherwise to charities. If you don't have large amounts you can use your 'fame' to publicise the said charity and hopefully raise money from people/companies wishing to associate themselves with you. That's what Ings is doing and its what Savile did, that's about the only similarity between the two. Im still personally of the opinion that the country is not full of predatory blokes all looking for their chance to abuse children, whatever the red tops and the lawyers say.

I thought Jimmy Saville was a top bloke until I found out about his kiddy fiddling. Until I find out something unsavoury about Mr. Ings, then on the back of his charitable work and that time he gave his boots to that kid I'll consider him a good egg too.

I think people got me totally wrong on this.. The OP described Ings as a "down to earth respectable footballer ". Presumably based on the single fact that he has started a charity... I also get the impression that the OP is endeavouring to contrast Ings to other footballers who don't set up charities ETC.... All I was saying was that setting up a charity is not (in my opinion) a method of measuring a person's personality or "respectability" .. That's not to say Ings isn't the most amazing man on earth. I don't know... I don't know him. I would just be wary of measuring such things on charitable works.

I thought i was a nice touch from Beckham when he decided to donate all his PSG wages to a children's charity. Waah waah but he was making loads on overseas sponsorship and this got him off paying extortionate tax.... (fwiw, I think it was a bit of both; seeing the opportunity to do good and get good publicity at little personal cost)

Therefore what you gave to charity would likely be proportionately a lot more and have more of an impact on your life that it would David Beckham
