"3pipe" - how on earth can you say Gobern was poor today, some people will give the guy absolutely no credit at all. I thought he played really well, breaks play up, pushes forward. You will be telling us next the Lynch is the worst defender we have (for what it is worth I thought Lynch was superb today).

With respect goodshot (FGS) there were at least 4 players on the pitch who were head and shoulders above him in the MotM stakes. Smithies, Butterfield, Tommy Smith and young Reece James. I thought James was our main weakness to be honest - although I thought he stuck at it well. Smith was my MoM but I thought all 3 midfielders were on top of their games today.

To be honest, the only time I felt any real discomfort was when Burke was tearing James a new one in the first half and, to a lesser extent, in the first bit of the second. Then Freedman decided to put him on the left (against the excellent Smith) and virtually extinguished Forest's threat. I like James though - he's good on the ball and can whip a good cross in - but he got a bit of a roasting at times (thankfully, Burke's deliveries were on a par with the rest - dogshit - oops, sorry wasp!)

Gobern ain't as bad as some make out but he also ain't the future. He's a Lg 1/Championship lower half player, prone to injury and struggles with his energy levels beyond the hour mark. I'd offer him another 12 months. He's unlikely to be a regular starter but ok on the bench or to play if we've a short term injury or suspension. I'd be surprised if there were many offers from elsewhere on the table for him in the summer. I'd generally agree but he added a bit extra to our midfield today. I had a look at him as I thought he would blow up as well after 60. He kept going well. Won a tackle in the 3rd min of injury time, carried it forward in to the box and laid off a perfect ball which Miller should have scored from. That's pretty much lasting the full game to me. I think his funny gangling gait makes him look knackered after about 15 mins.

I think any Independent present there today would say Gober had a good game, for those that saw it different, then they were not watching the game

And it's the same gangly gait that makes Billing look knackered after 15 mins, hope he doesn't get the same amount of abuse Gobern gets if and when he ever breaks through.

Oscar Gobern has made a big difference in these last two games. Played very well and has broke up play and pushed forward with the ball, but because it's 'Oscar Gobern' people won't give him the credit he deserves.

Barely noticed Lansbury yesterday but Oscar stood out. He definitely gives us a good option to Hogg in central midfield. He's quite good defensively but yesterday he played well forward and linked up/created a lot. Did enough for me to retain his starting spot and keep Hogg on the bench on Tuesday.

I have never been a big fan of OG but I wasn't at the game yesterday and I always seeem to miss the games where people report back positively on him. Still young and CP seems to have time for him so he must be doing the right stuff in training. He has all the physical attributes of the type of midfielder we need, a real box to box workhorse that has some passing ability to open up the game but I have never seen more than glimpses of this in matches. Given the cost for him in the squad and his age it would seem he's probably a player we should keep for a couple of years to see if he does flourish under CPs coaching team. I never thought I would say that as the times he gives away the ball has really bugged me over the last few seasons when he's been given a chance in the team.

I have no agenda at all with Oscar, read back a few pages of this thread. He broke up the sum total of sweet FA in the first half yesterday alongside Coady who was likewise poor. They then grew into the game as did the rest of the side and then we had the incident where his sloppiness almost led to a daft goal conceded. Good work to set up Miller near the end. Good performance v Ipswich but yesterday was not up to that standard. I hope he continues to be in and around the squad but a fit Hogg is way the better option.

He's started three games this season and we've won them all. Big coincidence perhaps but even though Hogg appears the better option because he puts himself about so much, perhaps we are actually more effective with Gobern in the side. I'd personally like to see both of them in there with Butterfield, and Coady on the bench but that's just my opinion
Watford 3-1 Ipswich 2-1 Forest 1-0
Not like it was 3 of our easier games of the season either

Should be Oscar, Butterfield and Coady/Hogg in midfield. Gobz give us a defensive shield and a bit of creativity.
100 times the player Edgar is there.

A sumptuous pass from Butterfield for the goal but didn't you credit the brilliant work by Coady whic put him in the position to make the pas. He broke up the Forest attack , carried the ball 50 yards and laid the ball out to James who played it inside for Gobern who gave the ball square to Butterfield .... and the rest is history. Coady was at the base of most of our good play in both halfs.

Far superior to Hogg in that position and in fact Hogg rarely plays in the holding role for Town. I'd put Coady in there 100% of the time in front of Hogg. He is much better at it than Clayton was/is as well.

Yep I'd give him 2 years otherwise someone else will. Very very good of late. He could be first class next year, if he stays fit. Maybe his injury problems might settle down now. It's often better when you're playing week in week out.

It's often better when you're playing week in week out. Looking fitter every game, superb strike today that could easily have notched, broke lots of play down and distribution good. The only concern is will Hoggy be happy with the cameo role? We need to keep Hogg and with Bunn we now have good competition for the midfield places.

I like Oscar.
Only question is has he got over his 'glass ankles' issues? If we know he can stay fit then extending his contract is an easy decision for the club.

He's been our best player for the last three or four matches. Classy on the ball and should be in our first 11 next season.

It's always been obvious he had it in him, individual performances like the QPR game and the 3-0 win at Sheffield United. Also played the best pass I've ever seen at the stadium
But it's whether he can do it over a full season

Not a fan of Gobern and the first goal was as a result of him conceding possession.
Having said that, he played well otherwise despite obviously not being fully fit (fo whatever reason).
Unsure three or four decent games in the last three years of a contract warrants another deal, but dependent upon salary expectations, obviously.

I thought Gobern was good today. He was brave in the challenge to knock the ball on for Lolley to score and that block to parry Rhodes's effort over the bar near the end was out of this world.

Thought he had another good game today. If seems fairly certain that Powell wants to keep him, as well as Miller, which on both their current contributions, I can't argue with but thought he was decent again today.

Pretty sure I heard on Radio Leeds this week that Oscar has been offered a contract extension, and that we have an offer on the table for Ish Miller.

Think Gobern has had a really good end to the season. He clearly doesn't have the energy of Hogg (who does) but I love the way he always TRIES to play football all the time and he wins a lot of ball too. It gives us a good squad going into next year in my opinion, when you think that neither Hogg nor Bunn, both of whom could have been conteners for MOS if uninjured, played. Presumably this signals the end for Carroll, but what of Edgar? Need a full back, or two?
