Pretty sure I heard on Radio Leeds this week that Oscar has been offered a contract extension, and that we have an offer on the table for Ish Miller. Hope so on both counts. Think the 2 of them have earned it. Thought Gobern was excellent today even taking into account his error for their first goal. Maybe even MOTM.

Me too, especially if we can keep them both fit.

Who'd have thought it 2 months ago. I love getting summat for nowt (it certainly feels like it)... or rather I like getting summat without paying a shed-load of money for it!

Think Gobern has had a really good end to the season. He clearly doesn't have the energy of Hogg (who does) but I love the way he always TRIES to play football all the time and he wins a lot of ball too. It gives us a good squad going into next year in my opinion, when you think that neither Hogg nor Bunn, both of whom could have been conteners for MOS if uninjured, played. Presumably this signals the end for Carroll, but what of Edgar? Need a full back, or two? Wins the ball, always looking for a forward pass, always seems to find time on the ball and make himself available. Been saying for years there is a quality player in there, provided fitness and injury let him show it enough.

Yep I'd give him 2 years otherwise someone else will. Very very good of late. He could be first class next year, if he stays fit. Maybe his injury problems might settle down now. It's often better when you're playing week in week out. Looking fitter every game, superb strike today that could easily have notched, broke lots of play down and distribution good. The only concern is will Hoggy be happy with the cameo role? We need to keep Hogg and with Bunn we now have good competition for the midfield places. Hogg isn't fit enough often enough to demand a first team slot anymore in my opinion. I really though he was the sort if player we've lacked for a decade or more but in reality he's a good experienced guy to play 25-30 games a season and be relied to perform to a championship standard. Gobern is putting his left foot and his height to good use of late and this makes him very hard to drop. Hogg might be picked instead of Coady who I think has been overplayed a bit this season.

Yes mom for me too Capt tho Scannell was a constant threat . Made the interception that led to Lolley's run and great goal. This was probably the best second half performance I've seen from Gobern.

Don't think anyone would have seen the way hes turned round his career here in a the past few weeks. It does feel like weve signed a new player. I wouldn't be waving a lucrative 3 year deal at him mind, but certainly think hes earned another year to prove himself. If he does leave, his next club will be in League 1 IMO, so from his point of view accepting a years deal in the championship should be better.

I think his reputation is still quite good having come through saints academy etc. I could see a Rotherham, Bristol, Preston, Sheff weds, Brighton, Bolton, etc etc all offering him 2 years. He's still young, still improving and is comfortable at this level. If we've only offered him a year I can see him moving on and getting a 2/3 year deal elsewhere and I think that would be a big mistake.

You think? saints academy is a long time ago for him. The fact hes barely got a game for us in 4 years will put put clubs off IMO. Truth is we're only talking about keeping him now because of what hes done in the past month or so. I doubt hes even on other club's radar. And to be honest- he owes us! ( not that it will count a jot I imagine). Hes spent 4 years taking a fortune out of this club and giving practically nothing back in return. Giving him a 2 year deal ( unless its on very reduced terms ) would be a very big gamble for Town IMO. Good as hes been lately, we all know the player and know theres more than a slight chance he'll go back to being utterly useless for the next 2 years!

It's no coincidence our upturn in form has coincided with Oscars return to the team, he's been a revelation!
My MoM today aswell, broke the play up in the middle of the park, comfortable in possession & a good range of passing. Yes he gave it away for their first but the defence had 2/3 opportunities to clear it afterwards & just stood off! More annoyed with Smithies for the second, he just had to shout 'LEAVE IT' & Wilkinson would have just let it go out for a goal kick instead of the corner which resulted in Rhodes scoring his 3000th goal against us! It's basic errors like that that need to be rectified next season because it's holding us back from being a top half team!

Agree Rhodes shouldn't be allowed a free header anywhere in the box, nevermind 3 yards out.. It was far too easy!

It was a clear shout from AS for him to leave it. As a young lad making his debut, be safe, clear it rather than someone coming in from behind him. No real problem Take the corner and regroup. Unfortunately we didnt

That's the reason he has his snipers.

Can I just say. Last year I was in the camp to let him go. After some good performances I am now of the opinion that he should be starting every week!

If Smithies shouted 'leave it', then that would be an indirect free kick to Blackburn.

Good performance again today, particularly in the first half. Some of the little dinky passes he played to break up play and create openings were absolute quality. Put himself about as well and came close with a fine shot just before half time. Still seems to fade away a little in the second half, and let some periods of the game pass him by. But he did enough to have a great effect on our point today. When he went down when Lolley scored, I was worried the Gobern of old would come back where he'd shy out of challenges after a knock, but thankfully he recovered well and deservedly played out the home season in the first team. We'd be mad not to sign him up.

Looking over the period it is more likely perhaps that he'll not keep this level up. I do think the run he's had has been pivotal though and he may have turned a corner now for good. His poor return for the club hasn't always been 100% down to him. To me he looks very comfortable at this level, against very good players. It could be he is one player who turns out to be shit hot, but for us, rather than for someone else.

He is a player who could very easily 'do an Afield'.
Theres a similar lad playing for England who is not really THAT much better, just happens to be playing with better players.

I agree with the idea that his recent performances deserve consideration when deciding if he warrants another contract. Disagree that he owes us anything, he's been injured, and not been given the opportunity to play when fit. More than a slight chance he'll go back to being utterly useless??? Come on Captain!

Not to forget the way he would appear utterly knackered after an hour. Thats why hes had so many snipers IMO and why its so surprising how hes playing these last few weeks. Looks a totally different player.

Were we playing him out of position before? I'm sure we were playing him in a defending midfield role before and some were even suggesting trying him at centre back.
Now he's moved up the pitch a bit he seems much better

For me the difference is a decent run of games, support from his manager and with that has come a boost in his confidence. When we had Clayton and Norwood he would always have been a bench warmer. Could have something to do with getting rid of some of the more disruptive players as well, maybe that has helped him find his game. Still needs to tighten his game up but the chances of us finding a player as good in the transfer market would be very slim. He will, hopefully, have competition from the academy lads next season but he now looks like the player we hoped we were getting when he signed. I am not sure whether he will get a one or two year contract offered, but we need to keep him if we can though.

How can someone who has played 3/4 average good games - and let's face it he had a low standard to improve from - be raved about and offered a new contract.
4 years of tripe, 4. Games playing Ok and giving the ball away in dangerous positions and some think he is a world beater. he has had his chance for 4 years and done nowt
