Why would Liverpool sack Rodgers? They were nowhere before he took over and hes improved them no end. Ok theyve gone backwards this season a bit but thats hardly surprising after losing one of the best players in the world last summer, having their best striker out for ages and having their skipper and key player going backwards quality-wise at a rate of knots. Hes a good manager Rodgers- theyd be barmy to get rid of him IMO.

Has Gobern been released? No he hasn't, but pre January window it was posted on here that Gobern, Gerrard, Hamill and Ward had been told they were surplus and should be looking to move on. That looks like it was a list originated by someone close to the money. I don't think they were THAT close, they didn't even spell Hammill right.

Hes a good manager Rodgers- theyd be barmy to get rid of him IMO. Don't disagree with any of that, but would throw the following two things into the mix. 1. He's only really found his best formation (both last season and this) after such inveterate tinkering that it felt more luck than judgement - Emre Can as part of a three? 2. Jurgen Klopp is available. While he isn't the new messiah, he's proven able to take a team not too dissimilar in profile to Liverpool to the next level - to a Champions League final, even.

Will take a bit longer then. He was last season's Supporters' Player of the Year. Prior to that he was unlucky with injuries so has only made 107 League and 20 cup appearances in almost 6 seasons. Yesterday's result got them into the Europa League so I can see them struggling again in the PL until they're knocked out.
Edit:They've changed the rules this year so if Arsenal win then the club in 7th gets entry into Europa League 3rd qualifying round. link

If Jurgen Klopp's had a far worse season than Rodgers and in a much easier league. Hes finished mid table in a 2 horse division!

If Jurgen Klopp's had a far worse season than Rodgers and in a much easier league. Hes finished mid table in a 2 horse division! A fair point, but I think its fair to say his cycle had come to an end there - only so often you can recover from selling your best player to your direct rivals at the end of the season, and with such an energy-heavy style of play, its always going to end badly (look at how Bielsa's Marseille have collapsed at the end of the season). Dortmund's style under him, when they were at their best (which would be not last season, but the season before), would translate pretty well to the Premier League, I would say. Give him a bigger squad, and I can see him being a success. I would say that although Bayern are far and away the best side in Germany, the Bundesliga is probably stronger deeper than the Premier League; the likes of Moenchengladbach and Wolfsburg stronger than their English equivalents. That's arguably because there's more balance there, but that's a separate point for a different day.

I bet Liverpool wish they'd had Jim Goodwin yesterday.
