We've conceded just 4 goals in 5 games including 2 clean sheets since Gerrard left - coincidence? I do hope you are braced for the Slapps that are going to come your way

Well, here it is, my "just back" report. Serious delays on the M25 (what's new?) between J10 & J8 meant I cut through stockbroker Surrey after picking up a couple of mates at Walton-on-Thames around 445pm. We were on the verge of giving up when we finally hit the M23 at 640pm. 25 minutes later I was parking up at the park-n-ride as you enter Brighton. Incredible that we got to the ground 20 minutes before kick off in the circumstances. That was the end of the fun. I wish we had turned round and gone home. God that was a dull game, first half in particular. I know Brighton hit the bar, Wells should have done better from 15 yards out and Miller broke through and poked an effort well wide, but absolutely nothing else happened, honest! The ground was eerily silent in the warm air, both teams were playing at half speed, Brighton dominating possession, passing it around amongst themselves, but with no cutting edge, really no threat whatsoever. Town had maybe 30% possession, rarely strung more than two passes together, just couldn't be bothered yet contrived to have two decent chances. Second half was marginally quicker, marginally better, but it was still mundane, tedious, end-of-season, going through the motions pap. Brighton hit the post from what looked to be a mishit cross that Smithies seemed to lose sight of, then the biggest moment in the game when Wells contrived to hit the post from four yards out with a wide open goal gaping in front of him on about 85 minutes. An unbelievable miss that would have given Town a win that they probably deserved despite being soporific and half-hearted. That just goes to show how poor Brighton were - they dominated possession, played it around amongst themselves, but utterly toothless. Town's standout player for me probably was Lynch; he made a few timely interceptions and challenges, though he almost let them in with a careless pass after a great tackle. A game that will quickly be forgotten. Your report confirms my thoughts that we should have blooded some kids and it would have pepped us up not weakened us Its ok all this towels on the deckchairs stuff from both these sides but folk want to and deserve to be entertained after paying over the odds admission and season cards prices in the first place. Most of us dont have the luxury of relaxing and not giving our all at work we simply wouldnt get away with it. Well we have it confirmed by the approach in this match if its a dead rubber like the upcoming games against Blackburn and Blackpool( a day trippers piss-up in Scratsville) dont go along expecting anything more than minimal effort and entertainment from both sides.

Well...a game we could, probably should have won but for Nahki, who had a good game, missing one glaring chance and another he should have buried. Defensively we were solid, good formation and everyone pretty much did their jobs, Oscar a bit ropey but got better. My one moan would be with more bravery and belief these are games we should be taking. I'll let Epsom do a proper job UTT. Is that it? The big build up and you give us four lines... FOUR LINES!!!!!!! Hey WTD thanks for this, you're the first on here to complain about the brevity of one of my posts ??. I'd have been my usual long winded self had my mobile battery not been dying ??

If only that was true about the effort an average Joe puts in at work and the consequences. In most places now, you've almost got to shit on someone's desk to get sacked without it being a long and onerous process.

Average Joe doesn't earn £250k a year, though!
Or whatever the average salary at Town is.
If you do earn that amount (in my experience at least), then you have to perform (see recent Tesco/Morrisons executives being bombed out for poor share price performance).

Talking of which - some Brighton fans after the match said it was the Crystal Palace coach driver who shat all round the dressing room before the play off semi final.

There's always talk of wanting the same things throughout all of football, so where's the play-off for the last champions league spot? Always baffled me how the guys in charge say the play-offs are great yet we don't have them in our biggest league. ...or a play off for the Europa League spot - the game no-one would want to win?!! I'd bloody love to be in the Europa League!

The Europa League has become too unwieldy, they need to revert back to a straight knockout tournament instead of the poor mans Champions League replica it has become. Not sure why UEFA are so hung up on group stages.

I'd give my left nut to see town in Europe one day. it's fashionable to knock the Europa League but imagine packing out some Mediterranean piazza with town flags everywhere. It would be absolute magic. I imagine Boro and Fulham fans would have a few tales to tell about the Europa League too.

Me too really - great to get across to Bologna or Bremen (Verder) who I'm pretty sure I saw turn out at Leeds Road in the dim past, though I can't recall why the Jerries were in the Anglo - Italian cup.

The tournament was open to all Axis countries in a spirit of bonhomie. Japan always turned their invitation down out of shame.

Werder Bremen did indeed play at Leeds Road, Richard. I was there too! It was 3rd May 1967 and Town won 3-0, Brian Clark and little Joe Harper (2) with the goals. It was a friendly, not in the Anglo-Italian cup. Town played Bologna and Sampdoria home and away in that.

Bologna was my first match lost 3-2 , also remember beating galatasaray 2-0 in a friendly 1974ish
