He is out of contract in 12 months time .In light of his injury record would you seek to extend his contract . If you offered him a new contract and he refused would you sell? Would another club take the risk? In the light of his present injury have we seen the last of him?

Is it a bad injury? I wouldn't play him again this season, no point in taking unnecessary risks.

Would another club take the risk? In the light of his present injury have we seen the last of him? Do you know what his present injury is? He jarred his knee in the first half at Forest, limped about for 30 seconds and then carried on without any apparent problem till the last couple of minutes. Didn't look a major issue. He's played more games for us than any other team - and I'd expect him to continue. Miller did ok at Brighton but I thought we missed Vaughan a bit. Just getting back to some sharpness and starting to link up with Nahki.

Pretty certain the plan was to sell him on for big money. That will not happen now. We usually sell one at least for "big" money in the summer. I expect that will continue this summer. Possibly Smithies. Just my opinion.

Big money departure will be either Lynch or Butterfield, to a so called bigger championship club - Ipswich or Derby or Blackburn. Smithies a possibility but too error prone to command a big fee.

I really hope we are able to keep our best players this summer seen as we let a lot go in Jan, if we add correctly to this squad next season will be enjoyable and we will improve league position again imo

If Rhodes leaves blackburn I can see them taking a punt on Vaughan!

Short memories. He's an injury waiting to happen, which is fantastic for Town because we could never hope to purchase this quality of player. I wouldn't have thought that many, if any clubs will be willing to take a gamble on him.
Twenty five games a season is probably all we're going to get out of him. I'd be offering him a new contract, but I'm guessing he'll only get a one year rolling, which seems to be a common tactic at our club.

If Rhodes leaves blackburn I can see them taking a punt on Vaughan! Anyone daft enough to take a punt on "sick note" Vaughan wants their heads testing. When he's fit he's an asset to any club, trouble is he's always frigging injured and his career record of around 180 appearances in around 11 seasons proves this, along with his 50 goals tally, which works out at less than 5 goals/season average. Rhodes almost scored more for us in a single season.
So, I say get him off our books as quick as possible and bring in a striker who is available for the majority of games.

Think we should make this his last contract mainly because of his age and injuries ..with all injuries he has had there gonna catch up with him and slow him down on any long term contract. The only contract that would suit us would be a pay as you play deal but not sure a player of his calibre would go for that ,but we need to look after ourselves as a club where his wage long term and plce also could be spent and earnt and brought in on someone else.

Vaughan misses a game and its a major crisis again. 33 goals in 89 games in just under three seasons aint too bad for an "injury prone" player.
He has another year left with us and if he can play 30 games next season and get into double figures with his goals, then I'd definitely give him another contract.

So you're happy to retain a main striker who has averaged 11 goals per season over the past 3 seasons?
It's no wonder only 8 teams have scored less goals than Town this season.
Based upon the minutes he's played he must be top of the pile, when it comes to salary paid per hour played.
Vaughan's a lame duck and always has been and the sooner we get rid the better.

I said the other day, I'm not sure if we're getting best value for Vaughan's wages these days - he's not been a patch on his 2012-13 and early 2013-14 self of late. That said he's probably still an average championship forward on current form.
The likelihood is Vaughan will be here next season, I'm not so sure after that. The other question is if we think a forward line of wells and miller is good enough for the games he is out (if we have genuine ambition to move up the division).
I would still sign miller but I'd still say the forward line needs strengthening beyond that if we want to kick on

I'd be sorry if he went.
Being sensible about it I'd maybe offer him a basic wage that's a fair bit lower than he's used to with a tidy appearance bonus to top it up. I wouldn't be surprised if someone in the division was willing to take a chance and offer him better than that though.

In fact 9 teams have scored fewer goals than our 52 (including L**ds): You may have missed Wednesday's magnificent 39 in 11th place! Only 11 teams have scored more than Town which is not a bad performance from negative Chris Powell when you consider our budget and the fact that goalscorers command the highest fees and wages. Full Table

Vaughan is easily worth a contract IMO. He is a Premiership class forward. I'd sooner have him on our payroll than lining up with Beckford for Preston against us, which is what would likely happen if we decided not to renew.

Nobody will be bidding to buy James as the fee and wages would not stack up for any club. Under FFP all clubs need to get max value from signings and the track record of appearances is just not there to justify the outlay.
So, from our perspective, we won't be banging down the door of his agent asking him to extend his contract at this point. There is just no point...
If you offer him an extension now, it would need to be at least 2 years on top - so 3 years. At this stage, we don't know how many games he will play next year - never mind the following 2 years!
There are 2 situations where he will be offered a contract at Town....
He plays 80/90% of games next season without serious injury. Or...
He continues as he has done since he signed for us (in and out) - but offers us excellent levels of performance when he does play - but on a small rolling contract at much reduced wages because no one else will take a punt on him!
I'd be more than happy to keep him - even if he plays 50% of games. But if that's the case, then Dean will only offer him what that warrants, in terms of salary. I would say that all parties are happy with how things sit at present and next year is crucial for James - in terms of his whole remaining career. Defining.

Will be interesting how much pre season helps him next season.
Also noticeable that having decent back ups in place means you don't need to rush him back which imo has been why we haven't seen so much of him last 2 seasons
I'm hopeful of 70% appearance rate from him or above next season.

I don't have a problem with us keeping Vaughan on but I would want him on reduced terms. I can't see us giving him a new contract on £15-20k a week wages. Deans already said we will be reducing the wage bill for the following seasons.
