Yes but we lost to the US under Taylor plus the embarrassing capitulation at Euro 92. Taylor is easily the worst England manager ever. Turnip picked Carlton Palmer, and more than just once. That alone makes him the single worst England manager ever. Ask a Wednesday can about Carlton Palmer, they'll tell you he was a very good player.

Let`s not forget that Turnip failed by finishing second in a group behind Holland. There were no play offs in those days. What kind of a system would not allow both England and Holland to be able to both qualify for the World cup. He also had key injuries to Shearer, Pearce and Gascoigne to contend with. Mclaren failed to qualify by not finishing above Croatia. Yes but we lost to the US under Taylor plus the embarrassing capitulation at Euro 92. Taylor is easily the worst England manager ever. Don Revie!

Sven for me. he had the players who could have actually won things. Could , maybe SHOULD, have been our golden period like the French had and then the Spanish, but he was clueless. More concerned with the WAGS and all the shizzle that surrounds the thing that actually being able to formulate a plan B, incase plan A isn't working. WC 06 he took 4 strikers. Rooney whod been injured and wasn't fit, Owen whod been injured and wasn't fit ( and then broke down at the finals), a 16 year old boy in Walcott who he admitted hed never even seen play live!!! and Peter Crouch! A complete buffoon who had 7 or 8 genuinely world class players at the peak of their careers and failed miserably with them. Partly down to bad luck in key moments to be fair, but a lot to do with him being inept.

World cup 02 in Japan was the killer for me. We win that QF against Brazil then we almost certainly win the tournament. We were unlucky with Ronaldinhos fluke but when he got sent off all Svens lack of ability to improve a situation came to the fore. It was there for us on a plate. We had the players, just not the manager.

Led Middlesbrough to UEFA cup final and gave FC Twente their first Erdivisie title ever - aye, shite manager. Yeah but he didnt say anything nice about Town so he is shit. I find it difficult to get through the week if Town play well and the opposing manager doesnt say we played well after the game even though i just saw us play well so i know we played well.

Did he modify his accent to a Teeside dialect when he managed Middlesborough? I can't remember.

Disappointed with the man. He never gave Town any credit for an entertaining match. When interviewed his comments were solely on his players and their season, shame. He did after the game at pride park and he did yesterday. He was very praising of us in the build up too. I always stick up for mclaren. Decent bloke who has a decent record in coaching and management. Can't believe the shite he gets! Classic England trait just to slaughter folk! Been off the site all week and return to find this reply to my thread. Well kosi do you think I made this thread up? The post match interview I watched Steve McClaren never mentioned Town. End of.

Needs to sort his defence out or they could be embarrassed in the play offs

.....and now rumoured to be a strong candidate next season at Newcastle United. That`s right, him who presided over a Derby County team that slid from hot automatic promotion favourites a few months ago to play off failures.
Him, Ashley and Newcastle might all be well suited together. Bit of a joke club to be honest at the moment, and could yet be plying their trade in our division next season.

april 20th...
was already nailed on. promotion or not.. McLaren offered a huge sum and guaranteed money for players, whatever happened at Newcastle(remember 3 weeks ago they were 'safe' when the offer was made)...

yes saw that galpharm. I was merely thinking this smacks of another ludicrous example of a failed manager ( and he has failed from the position Derby were in 2 months ago ) being given one of the top jobs in management ( although mute point if the once great club can now be considered anything other than a huge joke ).

unfortunately for Newcastle the offer was made when they though themselves 'safe'.. its just another piece of evidence that counts against their owner..
McLaren can now hang fire and wait and see.. I personally think he will go to Newcastle whatever happens, I bet the deal for him personally will be much the same whatever..

Their form is the worst in the division and their league position is getting worse every game. Burnley (because of Smugclaret), QPR and Newcastle would be a great relegation trio for me.

Dean did say that if Derby don't go up then they may like some other teams find themselves in trouble with big financial losses and FFP. It does make me wonder how a good many managers would cope without open ended cheque books. If you look at some of the attacking players Derby have got, its rather remarkable they didn't go up automatically, never mind make the play offs.
