The commentary here is so pro-England it's ridiculous. I'm OK with it though, after all it is the *** we just beat.

Congratulations to England who deserved their success - showed their better paid male counterparts where pride and spirit can get you. I don't know who the female commentator was but she was appalling - never stopped talking and a monotone drone of a voice - almost ruined it. And no, Soulsby, the girls didn't swap jerseys at the end.

Congratulations to the lasses, what a result beating the best team on the world. Unless we win the Ashes that's the SPOTY Team of the year sorted.

I've watched the England Women a few times during the tournament and, although I congratulate them on their success and their spirit, I'm not sure they were the third best team in terms of technical ability. All the games I saw England had hardly any of the ball, relied too much on punting the ball forward and had less attempts than the opposition. That said, its been a great tournament for them in terms of results and hopefully they can build on it in the future.

Yep, that's a good summary and I thought they were all over the Germans before they got the penalty and deserved the goal, and it was a blatant penalty too. I just hope the Japanese can get their passing game back and stuff the fkin Yanks tomorrow.

Watched the second half and then extra-time. Think I saw a goalie make ONE save. Nothing else on target except the penalty. Lots of huffing and puffing but zero threat at either end. And don't start me on wayward passing ... You think only our defenders hoof it?

Well done on finishing 3rd though Still a million miles from the men's game but their game has developed massively in last ten years.

We would be pleased to have a box to box midfielder like Lucy Bronze and a tough, never say die, skipper ike Steph Houghton. Their football is different from mens', but it was their character which shone through.
The refereeing was, at times, lasughable, but te penalty was correct.

I think that technically there are several other teams that are much better than us and we are a bit route-one-y. Our passing at times is poor and we can't keep the ball for very long but we do make up for it with our organisation, spirit and I really rate our central defence. I think that the finishing and final ball of nearly everybody we've played has been poor and that seems to be a big difference with men's football - occasionally there's an excellent shot eg Lucy Bronze but at times it is a bit embarrassing.

I think you have to give the coach a lot of credit. I've watched most of the games apart from the one against France and I thought we have been tactically the best team on show in every game.
After the first half we easily contained the Jerries and looked the most likely to score. The two central defenders were excellent and Bronze is probably the player of the tournament. Smith and Carney have been two of the most skilful players in the tournament as well.

End of the day they play t their strengths and do what they can do. They might not b as technical as other teams but play In a way which suits. If only the men did this played quick attacking football like they mainly do in prem instead of passing it around midfield only for their lesser ability to b exposed by the better teams. Well done girls

Well done to the Lionesses! Very little expectations at the start of the tournament but were very unlucky not to make it to the final in the end.. 3rd place is a good achievement.

More heart and guts than I've seen in an England football side since the 90s.
Shouldn't be compared to the men's game, it's a different game, enjoy it for what it is. I've found the matches enjoyable on the whole.
Thought they were evenly matched against the Germans despite the Germans moving the ball around better. What England Ladies may lack technically they make up for with heart and team ethic.
Two world class saves from Bardsley, Houghton was immense, Sanderson and Aluko did very well as subs and were ultimately the difference between the two. Carney gives the ball away far too much, they are a more solid side without her.

Their football is different from mens', but it was their character which shone through. The refereeing was, at times, lasughable, but te penalty was correct. Totally agree on this - only thing I can say is Bronze is predominantly a right back, not a midfielder (though on the displays she pulled off at the WC it can be hard to tell!) Mark Sampson has worked wonders with this team. Granted, Chris Powell would get chastised for setting up to counter the opposition rather than playing to our strengths if he did it for Town, but I'll be damned if it wasn't effective for England - there was never a game in this World Cup where it looked as though we were thoroughly outclassed.

Would love to see what Sampson could achieve in the men's game.
32, think they mentioned something about coming from a Bristol Academy and he's been extremely impressive this tournament.
Reminds me a bit of Garry Monk.

4-0 to the USA inside 15 mins. I would have started a new thread but I can't be arsed. A David Beckham special in there as well. (and a hat trick)

Find everything about it cringeworthy. That long range goal epitomised it all, woeful goalkeeping.

I thought the second half was really entertaining. End to end stuff, some good moves and loads of passion. Pity it was pretty much over then.
