IF (I emphasise the if) Butterfield goes then town had better sign Ryan Woods for certain. Conor Hourihane would also be a nice added bonus.

Bradley Dack
I'm just going to keep mentioning his name so it looks like I'm in the know when he signs next week

Cheeky bugger! My only doubt about Woods is that he's not as attack-minded as Butterfield is, but he's THE outstanding young lower-league midfielder around from what I've seen.

I might be mistaken but when Ross Wilson was at town didn't he say town had been monitoring him?

Would Hourihane and Woods be a decent balance in a 4-3-3 midfield-Woods the number 8-Hourihane the 10- Hogg or Whitehead the number 6 in front of the defence?
We were also linked with Ryan Kent as a loan-another that could play in the 10 role.
Im told Woods had a god game against Blackburn in the league cup the other week-

Have seen very little of Woods, what sort of a player is he? 1 goal in over 100 appearances and only a handful of assists suggests he plays deeper than Butterfield?

He's a deeper lying/linkman type midfielder...a more mobile, cultured version of Hogg, hence my comment above that he wouldn't really be a like-for-like replacement for Butterfield, also tends to play more on the right. His goals-for-appearances record you mentioned kind of backs up what I'm saying. Excellent young player though.

I'm guessing we've both seen quite a bit of him. I'm not making any comparisons on class (obviously) but a similar playing style to Xavi/Schweinsteiger, neither of which have ever scored that many goals. Another reason for Woods' poor goal record is that he played a full season at full back before playing in midfield. Just sign him Town... Please!

I've only seen him once in the flesh to be honest, away at my second club Exeter last November, but his performance that day was absolutely outstanding, and the Exeter fans raved about him too.He totally eclipsed Matt Grimes who signed for Swansea last season, who Town made an official bid for (pers. comm. Ross Wilson). I know it's league 2 blah, blah, but I know a good player when I see one, and he's a good player. About a month before then Shrewsbury had played Chelsea in the LC and the Sky commentators rated him.

Yeah, wasn't saying he wouldn't be a good signing (as I have no idea about him beyond what I've read). Just that if Butterfield goes we badly need creativity and someone who can pop up with a few goals from midfield. But we can have this guy as well

Scenario... A midfield 3 of Ryan Woods/ Jacob Butterfield/ Kyle Dempsey will easily keep us in this division!!

If West Ham had a bid knocked back I'd say it's unlikely we'll be able to get him.

Mate at works a Bradford fan and said Woods was on such a higher level against them the other week, he was playing the game at a different pace to the other 21 players. Sits deep and pings passes whilst being a tough little sod. Best player he's seen at Valley Parade for some time. Only put 2&2 together as he didn't name the player just titled him as " this ginger 'c' " He would not be cheap me thinks and for that reason I imagine we'll miss out. Hope not though!

Not seen Ryan Woods play but based on the reports on here a few questions;
Why did we go for Dempsey if Woods was available
Is he likely to be within budget, he is often talked up as a future star
Do we not need a forward thinking midfielder if Butts does go
It strikes me if he were on our radar we may have bid before now

He looks brilliant I think bigger clubs will come in for him! can follow that, and sadly as with a few of the other really quality names being mentioned, can see where it won't be so simple as many may think to get them signed up but fingers crossed the club can pull a couple of rabbits out of the hat

I was at palace v shrews last night and RY is a great player, seen him 3 times now and he was not out of place last night with big boys. Good attitude, engine, skill, awareness, tidy, good passer. Lots passed across field and perhaps a little defensive but he caught the eye to all in my party nonetheless. Sign him up!!
