run my own business..but spent 22 years being 'dangerous and in danger' before that.... btw, the roads and repairs and upgrading thereof is badly run, badly organised and not cost effective. top to bottom are to blame... we just have to 'lump it' for now.. Its not defendable and to their credit the highways people dont make any excuses for being crap... shoulder shrugging appears to be their considered reply to critique.. I agree with that, just don't agree with you making out road workers are all thick and lazy people are as thick and lazy as they are allowed to be.. I have great respect for all working people whatever they do. It takes too long, it costs too much and the chaos it causes is down to poor planning and execution.. passed 6 blokes on the m62 the other day stood on the banking having a fag.. returned an hour later, still in exactly the same position doing the same thing, at best thats bloody awful forward planning at worst its 6 men doing absolutely nothing for an hour.. see it far too often on too many roads for it to be a coincidence..

Rome nor Canalside was built in a day. The whole project has taken some considerable time and if you ever visited just after DH bought it, you will see that they have spent a fortune on it. The playing surfaces alone cost a fortune. Each area of capital expenditure needs to be properly authorised and in the full scheme of things when you take into account what has been done this is really something minor. There are many other things that need doing as well as the roadways and parking AND IN TIME I am sure they will happen but really think that this is just pedantic Why? It's the first impression any visitors would make. Have you driven your car over the potholes? Have you walked down the driveway when a car goes over a deep puddle as you are alongside? It's not being pedantic as it has real impact on Canalside users. You miss the point and in answer to your question yes and yes. The major pothole as I think you might describe it as Ngorogoro Crater, is in the area of the car park and in simple terms you should be travelling at speed suitable for that stretch of tarmac. For those that go over a deep puddle then they may be liable for driving without due care and attention. It seems that you are impatient and I recall when Canalside was first purchased talking to Mark Lillis and who was flabbergasted of the amount of people that were expecting it all to be done now and why not. Hence Rome or indeed Canalside was not built in a day. It is clear from other posters that it is in the pipeline but has to go before the planning committee, which is also probably so that the entrance will be widened allow vehicles to enter and egress at the same time. This means that Canalside will have to insert additional drop kerbs to taken in the wider entrance. As to the large puddles, no matter how much new tarmac is put down the "puddles" which are more akin to Lake Victoria will still be there. It therefore follows that this is a drainage problem. I understand that those in charge would like it all done in one go rather than piecemeal, which makes sense and of course this is not the time of year to be laying new tarmac since moisture will be trapped beneath the new tarmac and in 12 months time it will be back to how it is now. This is what I mean by being patient and of course there is the cost. To do all that needs doing will cost in the region of £100k so unless you are going to dip into you pockets to pay for it you will have to wait, unless you know some travellers who can lay some "special tarmac"! Yes it is front of house and for those visitors that come to Canalside they either know what it was like before or for those that don't will see how the rest of the development is and really do they make that much of a deal about it, I suspect not. So I still think you are being pedantic but am sensible to know that sometimes I am wrong and in which case I apologise but if you are not pedantic you are certainly impatient.

Canalside is a great facility and has clearly cost a fortune to upgrade both inside and out. Why then are the driveway and the car-parks in such a poor condition? When it's wet there are several areas that accumulate deep puddles. The upper car park and the overspill one are in very poor condition. Today the driveway now has a deep hole in it that has a cone in front of it. I wonder what plans are in place to sort all these issues out? I was expecting it to be done over the summer but it wasn't and it's going to get worse as the winter sets in. Those potholes could quickly become sinkholes !

I was only asking if anyone knew what the plans were as it has been in a bad state for two years and is getting worse. I didn't think I'd start a debate about lazy workmen or get lectured about being an impatient pedant but that's DATM for you. I guess some people just enjoy being smug and superior.

Great that Dean has been able to face supporters twice in the same week to share his renewed enthusiasm. There's a new buzz and Dean clearly feels it himself.

Or perhaps something in between, given you actually saw them smoking for around 10 seconds, and not an actual hour?

Is Galph a rubber necker ? 10 seconds !!
Could have caused a pile up.
Should concentrate on the road ahead rather than who is doing what at the side of the road.

Yes, its indeed possible for an m62 trip to Leeds to take Manchester in on its route. So if it wasn't public transport, were you staring out of the little black window in a prison van taking you from Strangeways to a court hearing in Bradford?

could do what they do on the roads..? close it off for a month with faulty traffic lights in place causing fucking mayhem.. get a shedload of blokes and vans and cones to attend, fuck about for days on end mixing a bit of tar and then fill it in so its like Mount Everest for a month before it all comes out again and so it continues? The signs on motorway road works make me smile though.. 'please take care through roadworks my dad works here'?? should be;; 'please take care through unneccessary lane closures and narrowing with silly speed limits, because my dad will be mooching about somewhere with a hi vis vest on , fucking about and doing as little as humanly possible'...? more blokes than spades?? don't talk out of your arse, I knew this conversation would end in tears as dig1 fills that rut in the canalside drive with a local rubbernecker before levelling the tarmac.
