The OP is expressing an opinion about the club's recent transfer dealings. I don't share the opinion, or think it's a well chosen subject line, but what's all this jumping on the bandwagon of personal abuse? First few responses - fair enough; after that it's just bullying in the school playground.

I think it goes like this...."we're interested in x player, he's out of contract in the summer, so we'll offer you £x now for him...." Club replies, no we want £4x for him.. okay, stuff that then, we'll wait 'til summer when we can get him for nowt. I think that's a good way of doing business tbh, we're not desperate are we, and we don't have limitless amounts of money. club would probably have taken a reasonable offer for their out of contract man..player might have even got a small share.. we have taken the 'see how we go' route and simply didnt offer enough.. its the other version of events.. you save all the money by not buying anyone..should the shit hit the fan, thats maybe what not doing any business to speak of cost us..(well dean anyway-always said its his money).. the argument can always work both ways..there is overpaying and there is being too cautious and clever..no guarantees till we are truly safe..

First few responses - fair enough; after that it's just bullying in the school playground. It's an outpouring of everyone being sick to death of the OPs continued bile, attacks on the club to this guy and others have been far FAR too common place on this board, it's been coming for a while this is not school playground stuff this is sticking behind the club against a small number of so called fans decrying everything that they do. Personal abuse isn't necessarily right but I this case I reckon some of the more passionate supporters rightly get a free pass cos they have had to read his tripe for far too long.

I think the OP is thick skinned enough to take the pelters he was clearly asking for

You have all been conned and you can't see it. We had a war chest to buy players to strengthen this window for the season ahead. We didnt spend any of it because the players we targetted would have commanded fees!!! or what was it the clubs didnt want to sell them! Unbelievable news that a club didnt want to let a good player go. Didnt the news of our interest unsettle the player didnt they bring their dad to chairman office demanding the move? If not why not? Didnt we know that fees would be involved when we made them our target? Did it come as a surprise? By defintion they were a target because they were what we needed, what we wanted but lets put that on the back burner because we can have them for nothing in the summer, nevermind the fans they can still watch the crap defence snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, watch us create ten chances and only take one and think ourselves unlucky to lose. This season has been written off AGAIN and how manys that now ? So the whole point of selling our best players at the first sniff of any interest is not to fortify the team at all is it. The proof is there in black and white. Chuck in the old chestnut of "as soon as they showed interest the player wanted to leave" the thick fans will buy it again, even when its been proven to be not always the case. And the best part is yet to come these free transfers if quality can command a bigger wage and guess what we wont see that coming either as we lose out to another powerhouse of the division like Bristol or Brentford with their imaginary parachute payments ,who we cant compete with when in reality we wont even try to if it means spending. I was genuinely excited by what Wagner was doing with our motley crew but fear not any modicum of success and he will be off too and whats betting he wont have any problems whatsoever in aquiring his targets then. I bet CP is pissing himself and i dont blame him. As for me i knew this would happen its what i have been telling you all, i have come to expect nothing less it doesnt even bother me now and that is DH's problem despite all the rhetoric around crowds and support he continues to follow practice that only increasingly will lose him more supporters. Perhaps he's glad of the dwindling support it justifies the next sale doesnt it? Now who'd have thought it eh? A night on the pop usually relaxes me. It's not working for you, TP.

I suppose it's all about perspectives..and yes, mine was a simplified version just to make the point. Town would have a valuation and would offer a negotiable starting price, the other side would do the same in the hope there would be a meeting somewhere in the middle...but that relies on a realistic desire to reach a deal. town might have gone to £2x but if the other side weren't prepared to go lower than £3x, then what ? If we were struggling in the drop zone and desperate, then yes we'd probably give in..but we're not..and that's the key strength Town have. We do also have a contingency which is the loan market and for players due to be out of contract, and wanting away in the summer, Town may well get a 2nd bite of the cherry and relieve the selling club of the wages by taking the player on loan until the summer. That may still happen now the chance of a sale has gone. I'm sure we've all bought cars and houses knowing the asking price is the absolute top end price and can most times be negotiated down, no one simply pays the asking price any more do they ? Disappointing as it is, this is a business continually running at a loss and no doubt with other irons in the fire. I can't really knock the approach taken by Town and besides we don't actually know all the facts.

I'll tell you what, TerrierPark: if you're so keen to support a team that chucks money at it, why not go support Derby? Or Wolves? Or Bolton? Or QPR? Or Reading? Or Blackburn? Let's face it, they've certainly spent buckets full of cash "chasing the dream" and where has it got them? Well I would say that all bar one will almost certainly be in this same league next season and one, I'll leave you to guess which, will be plying their trade in League One. Or you could simply go and support a Greedy League club, any Greedy League club which, by definition, will throw loads of cash at every player on the planet, but more usually big black Africans or French and Spanish players. You're guaranteed to get your money's worth watching them, aren't you? Or failing that, you could just close your DATM account and leave the rest of us in peace.

I can't understand why folk are getting so het up over the OP. Its a football forum where we all have opinions and often disagree with each other. If everybody wants to piss in the same pot then maybe they ought to defect to the flag waving forum, but as somebody said above some/most of them have comeback under a different username, which indicates that the sort of debate we have on here is more to their liking.
Whilst the OP may have gone a bit over the top, its only what we should expect from him and I read it with a smile on my face rather than some of the cringeworthy stuff that is posted sucking up to hierarchy no matter what they do or don't do.
Town are playing a dangerous game here by deferring some of these signings until the summer when numerous clubs will be in the market place. At the moment under Wagner we are taking two steps forward and one back with a defence that clearly isn't good enough to fulfil our ambitions. A short term loan may sort that out and I for one think we should have sorted this out in the January window. We'll have a lot better chance of attracting good players in the summer if they can see that we are a club that's going places, rather than one that's just content with survival.

The world is full of wannabee footballers, cast-offs, potential etc. Some of the best town teams i ever saw cost nothing, its not as though we are going to the Prem and going to be signing 5 players at 20 mill each anyway. Would love our club to make a statement saying that we wont pay fees or more than 5k a week wages. For those of us that remember the Buxton era that is exactly right. Apart from Kindon the rest of the 1979-80 squad were relatively unknown before they signed for Town. The key to success is to get the players to play as a team, week in week out and all work hard towards that goal. Today's players at Town should want to be revered in 35 years time as those legends will be this Friday.

The OP is expressing an opinion about the club's recent transfer dealings. I don't share the opinion, or think it's a well chosen subject line, but what's all this jumping on the bandwagon of personal abuse? First few responses - fair enough; after that it's just bullying in the school playground. It's the DATM way.
If you criticise the club's direction of dragging their heels and writing off another half season by trying to avoid relegation as cheaply as possible again, you come in for this sort of abuse.
Nobody is allowed an opinion which doesn't fit in with the happy clappers.

No need for the dig at the 'flag waving forum'.
OP deserves a fair amount of stick for ignoring what the manager said before he made the thread. (see page 1 in big red writing).
It's a self policing board, if you say something daft, you'll usually get pulled up for it.

We've invested a considerable amount in our academy/development set up in recent years and hopefully we'll start to reap the benefits soon, but there are times when you have to pay the going rate and if Town want to achieve the success we all crave then they'll have to go with the flow.

I told my wife in December that come February I am going to have a job that pays £100,000 a year as I don't earn enough. It's February and I couldn't find anyone that would give me a job that pays £100,000 - now my wife thinks I'm a liar and that I never wanted a job that pays £100,000.

I would imagine that watching Town for 50 years has the same effect on your health as smoking 20 Woodbines a day for that period. So Benhomly is probably right about the 5 months.
