FFS Art. 'Partner him'- how many times!? Otherwise, £6m+ is what I'd guess it would take to tempt us. Why is this so daft when you look beyond the HD post code and compare Nakhi to other strikers. As already said, those above him the charts went for far more and you can find highlights of these missing worse chances than some of those Nakhi should do better with. Look how much Rhodes went for and the manager didn't even want him! I bet Nahki is bracketed with the top strikers in this league by pretty much everyone away from a section of his own fans. Anyone who's had him watched over numerous games will know that he misses for too many good chances to risk spending 6 million on, they might pay 2 million for him but nowhere near what Hoyle would want. No one is claiming he is anything like the finished article or necessarily ever will be. However, in this market, if you think 'they might pay 2 million' you are so wrong on this point. Bonkers doesn't do it justice. You've got half the budget of Megatron- who you bringing in...Adam Le Bloody Fondre?

And who are you buying with that? Have faith condescending one We may well unearth someone better, I just think in this market £6m isn't unrealistic compared to the obvious alternatives, whilst for the same reasons £4m would still likely see us buying someone who may well fail.

Not sure what planet some people live on. I'm glad Fred has done the donkey work for this post. Anyone who thinks wells would be off for anything less than 6m+ go through those transfers above!! 4th top championship scorer and someone thinks he's worth 2m, I'm speechless but then again this is DATM.

Ill tell you what I think babs; I agree - some arsehole somewhere would probably pay 6-8m for Wells, he's not worth that much in my opinion but that doesn't mean we shouldn't be holding out for that - why not? On the other hand - would you trust David Wagner and his contacts to bring in a couple of strikers capable of at least filling the void left, if Wells moved on for 3-4m? I definitely would. As much as Well's all round game has improved and yet he still gets some ridiculous stick about missing chances - I think Wagner would ideally like a couple of options up front with a bit more of a physical presence, not necessarily 6'3 beasts, but just options to give us another dimension when needed (i.e. Burnley a couple of weeks ago).

I agree it's feasible we could do better- but there's nothing to suggest Wagner or Webber are going to be able to unearth some gems that no-one else has seen and for an amount way under the standard in England. Then there's convincing them to move to the North of England. Otherwise, what on earth is this figure you have in your head based on, if it's not market price (I.e. what you think someone would pay)?

Some Town fans live in a fantasy world when it comes to Wells, ok he's scored a decent amount this term but he misses too many chances. No one will pay 6 million for him, if they do they are mental, for that money you can get better value. Let's be honest, no one has really been sniffing around him. I'd be happy for him to stay, get in another striker to partner him. What a load of old rubbish... And let me back that up if I may!! As I have said before what are we judging strikers on goals scored or goals missed. Andrew Cole!? Remembered as a striker who scored loads or a striker who missed loads!? Teams will pay 6 million and we will miss him when he is gone, remembering not so long ago that we had Phil Jevons and Keigan Parker as our options!? Better value!? Name me a striker you could get for 6 million who is a proven goal scorer at this level!?

Funny thing with Nahki, before DW came in I would have been happy to get our money back, now I think your looking at maybe 4 million. His overall game is far better and I'm sure he will keep improving under Wagner. I don't think it is too far fetched to say Wagner may well have salvaged his career. He certainly wasn't pulling up any trees and wouldn't have been going to a better club than us. Fair play to Nahki for responding so well to what Wagner put before him. I think he would be a fool to leave. He could easily falter at another club with a bog standard manager.

OK- so the logic goes....we spend £X however many months ago (when prices for strikers in particular were totally different) and we then multiply it by an arbitrary factor of three. Is this the Keynesian or Friedman school of economics?

Glad none of you are in charge - "I'd take 4 million" are you insane?
In this market, if he goes he's going to go for more than we sold Rhodes for.
As one or two have already said, he is one of the best strikers in the league and you lot are way too hard on him.
Just go on twitter and search his name and you'll see endless tweets from fans of other clubs (including those higher in the league than us and some in the Prem) saying they should be signing him.

The 20k+ to 40k a week contract is attractive to guys going to other clubs within the division just ask Adam, Jordan or Jacob All players of the season, automatic starters and in great situations here but that is not always the case at other clubs but repeated players still follow the cash. You could argue that chasing the cash led Nahki to us in the first place. Nahki's contract has 2 years to run, if, like Clayton he won't sign an extended or new contract within our wage structure we will be looking to sell at the end of next season (at the latest) to ensure he doesn't leave for nothing in the summer of 2018.

I hadn't really noticed - I mean we got 8m for Rhodes further back still, then 2014, Brighton got 10m for Ulloa, McCormack 11m.....Assombalonga - 6-8m or something?

I hope we do get more than 8m for him - I'd be delighted. I hope theres a chairman/manager out there daft enough to spend the much on him.

The day after Nahki signed Clibbens or Hoyle said he wouldn't be around for a testimonial. Nahki is a very ambitious man who will want to play as high up as he can. He's really come on since moving to Town and especially this season. Always had an eye for goal and followed up mistakes from defenders and keepers but his first touch and build up play is good when he first came was lacking. He is worth £5 million+. Not as good a finisher as Rhodes but his build up play and all round influence in this team is far better.
He cost a million quid and a few poultry adds ons. Well worth the brass we paid for him. Really come into his own since Wagner but I suspect he maybe gone in Summer but no less then £5 million.

Well the OP has certainly reignited the NW debate and other than "Will he still be here at the end of the summer transfer window? Will he sign a new contract?", has contributed nothing to this debate. Is it NW's agent? Is his contract up for renewal? The facts are that he is currently the 4th top scorer behind 2 players who play for teams that sit top and 4th in the League and the third is a player who cost £12 million and is playing in a poor side but is still scoring, not much unlike Rhodes when in the Blackburn side. Of course everyone who has seen him play will comment on the number of chances he has missed and clearly if those chances had been converted he would probably be "top of the scoring charts", particularly considering that 57% of his shots are on target just behind McCormack on 61%. You also have to consider that from the start of the season until the Leeds home game and including cup competitions he started in 11 of those 17 games (64%) and since Leeds at home has only missed starting 1 game (5%, therefore playing 95% of the games). What is clear that DW has much more faith in him than many on here, albeit there is not an equal replacement on the books (obviously I am not taking into account Jason Davidson, who is the best player by far in the current squad ), he is consistently in the starting line up for DW and is not being "rotated" like many other players. Certainly from my observations he does put a lot of effort in both off and on the ball. We have been fortunate with injuries with him and considering the amount of games he is playing is remarkable. The style that DW plays clearly suits NW and gone are the days of playing "2 up't front" and a big man playing off NW, he is definitely more successful under Dw than CP. Clearly this is not good enough for some and we are entitled to our opinions but looking at it objectively and without emotion NW is a good player. The question of whether he is good enough to sell for a "55 zillion pounds" and to set the PL alight is really irrelevant, clubs will play what THEY THINK he is worth but currently he is a Town player and some might disagree but a reasonably successful one at the moment, yes he misses opportunities but so do so many other strikers throughout the footballing world. Messi has managed to miss four of his last seven penalties for Barcelona; I bet Messi is glad that he does not play for Town and have to suffer DATM outrage for missing a penalty! Perhaps the OP would like to comment rather than being mischievous

Strikers aren't midfielders. With the company Nahki Wells is keeping in the charts and their respective prices (past prices not current as well) I'm just glad Dean won't be sat in the boardroom taking advice off us lot when the bids come in...

At the risk of being controversial consider this. Wells imo is a good championship striker....no more no less. His wider game is much improved under wagner and there is more to come.
A good many fans however think he's poor and we can get much better......all I'd ask is where?
By contrast, I think most if not all fans rate Lynch as a top championship defender. Given that there aren't that many decent centre halves around, and money is freely available to many sides then why isn't Lynch being touted for a move? Is it because he isn't as good as we all think ......or simply that by contrast Wells is a more attractive proposition? (and I know strikers cost more money than defenders!). it certainly isn't cos we wouldn't sell because quite rightly every player here has a price.
I'm not for 1 min saying Wells is a messiah....but money talks increasingly in this game and under dean we have at least recd top fees for our talent - let's all hope he doesn't go in the summer because he won't be easy to replace....unless you want to see the likes of miller, ward or even doukara up top!!!!

Saw a report that someone had offered £10 million for Lewis Cook from Leeds...Is that the same bloke who played against us last week?{or was he not in their side?} If he is worth that I,d say a goal scorer in this div. is worth more

I'm clearly of the opinion that Wells is worth a lot to us (fits and knows the system, whilst we have no alternative) and he likewise is in the market (see Fred's email for identifying the trend in prices). However, I agree with what I think you are implying- you can't really make a judgement on what we have seen of Cook and he could have the potential to play for a top four club for all we know. I doubt Wells would ever get further than a struggling Prem team. On Cook, of what I have seen, I don't see a top end Prem player, other than he runs like Wilshire! Still very young though, and as I say, I've not seen all that much of him.
