The play offs do not "take away" promotion from the third place team. They were introduced to add a promotion place onto the top two. If they were scrapped it would revert to that. I liked the initial system where the third bottom team had the right to defend its higher division status Apart from 3 teams were promoted before the play offs were introduced too. If I remember correctly 3rd bottom of the league above were originally included in the play offs to give them a chance to stop up Sent from my SM-G900F using proboards Yes, if I remember correctly didn't Leeds play Charlton and it was Charlton who were 3rd bottom and they beat Leeds to stay up meaning Leeds stayed down

Yes, if I remember correctly didn't Leeds play Charlton and it was Charlton who were 3rd bottom and they beat Leeds to stay up meaning Leeds stayed down Didn't Bradford play Middlesbrough at some point too? I am not sure to be honest. Remember a story about a Leeds fan when they played Charlton, he was on the beer and fell asleep and missed the whole game. When he woke up his mates told him Leeds had beat Charlton and were promoted, he went out singing, shouting and dancing in the street before someone told him it was a wind up! Brilliant!

Just looked it up, Bradford played Boro who were in their division, lost over two legs then Boro went on to beat Chelsea over two legs after they finished fourth bottom of the division above. Half right.

3-1 Barnsley, 6-1 on aggregate.
Interesting to note that Barnsley fans are watching a beam back at Oakwell and are allowed to take pints from the concourse back to their seats. How can they be trusted not to turn into drunk, violent louts intent on mayhem? Everyone knows that football fans at a football match + alcohol in view of the playing area is a recipe for disaster.

It seems finishing 3rd has been a bit of a curse this season, Brighton, Walsall and Accrington (4th in their case) have all missed out on promotion.

Yep got to hand it to you while i go eat my hat. The way Hull finished the season, i thought they would bottle it and i thought Millwall would stroll league one play offs. Oh well.
