Commentator on 5LIVE has just said that the game is a strong contender for TV if it ends up Sutton v Leeds. Partly because of the 1970 game at GGL which ended 0-6 to Leeds. I can remember it being on MOTD. Never imagined I'd end up seeing plenty of games at GGL years later. Drove past the ground this morning as it happens.

I think they are doing what maybe we should have done... concentrated on the league? Won't be a disaster for Leeds if they go out, that's for sure. Except they've now equalised. we rotated but we have done it before..we didnt scrape through and lose a player or two... I think rotation is 'concentrating on the league'?

Good stuff, didn't expect it to be so many think their ground holds 11,000 or so and their home support is around 3,500 in the league ...they might even give us some seats in another stand if they can't sell 8,000 to their own fans. How many would we take though...?

Good draw and nice local-ish fixture, shame it's such a nightmare to get to the ground from the motorway when it's busy. Come off the M62 at junction 19 (the one after the main Rochdale one) go through Heywood across to Bamford and up to Norden. You'll end up coming at Spotland from the opposite direction - much quicker, if slightly longer. Or go drinking in the Baum for hours before hand.

After the 3-4 Port Vale cup game in 2008, the next ghost that needs exorcising, for me and baby sapphire, is the 0-3 at Rochdale. 5th round Old Trafford next. 6th round Arsenal away after that.

We also played them around 92 and won 2-1. I think Malcolm Brown was playing for them. Onoura scored and we had 3000+ fans. I remember it through an alcohol fuelled haze, but recently found a fantastic super 8 cine film version on you tube taken by a Rochdale fan at the front of the side terrace that used to be to the away fans left.
TV can fuck off. The bell ends in suits won't want to know this game, but there will not be a better atmosphere anywhere in the 4th round, with cracking football to boot. Man U v Wigan, wouldnt watch it if you paid me, give me 8-10k at Spotland every time.

Good draw this against a proper football Club. Be good to play a game in a traditional ground not the soulless new stadiums we visit week in week out.
Not far to travel, we will sell out as I would suspect they will so potential full house.
I also have a lot of respect for fans that support Clubs like Rochdale when it is so much easier to follow such as Man Utd, Man City or a host of other Premier League or Championship Clubs within half an hours drive. Can't be easy maintaining and building support.
Not an easy draw by any means, but winnable. I think their brand of football is to knock the ball about so could also be a good game to watch.
We could have had a lot, lot worse like a Championship Club away.

Dear Mr Wagner, Please take this 4th round tie seriously. We Town fans have seen so few matches against the top teams in the last 45 years that we are crying out for a Man Utd or Liverpool on TV. We have had a terrible run, awful draws and feeble defeats for so long that getting to the 5th round with a big tie is a massive dream. I think we have only been in the 5th round 3 times in 50 years, beyond pitiful. There was no need to rest players for the Port Vale game, by the time we play Weds half of them will have forgotten what a ball looks like. There is no need to rest players for the Rochdale game as they again have a week between matches. Rochdale have won 6 straight so play the best team and get us in the hat fella. In anticipation, an FA cup lover.

Dear Mr Wagner, Please take this 4th round as seriously as you see fit. We Town fans have seen so few matches against the top teams in the last 45 years that we are trying our best to get promoted so we can play them week in week out. We have had a terrible run, awful draws and feeble defeats for so long that getting to the premier league is a massive dream. We have been in the 5th round 7 times in 50 years, not great but not the worst. We haven't been in the top flight in my lifetime, beyond pitiful. There was every need to rest players for the Port Vale game, by the time we play Weds the other half of them will be 100% fresh and raring to go. There is also need to rotate players for the Rochdale so we give other players who will be crucial to our league run-in some valuable game time. Rochdale have won 6 straight so play the team that will get us into the hat fella BUT most importantly one that gives us the best chance of picking up points in the league. In anticipation, a promotion lover.

Leeds are nailed on for a TV game whoever wins. Sutton for the non-league angle or Wimbledon to reminisce about 1975 & all that Dickie Guy...legend:

Frank Stapleton was brought on as sub and helped turned the game around. Unfortunately he left after a short spell to take over as manager of the chickens ...

Not sure how many times we've been in 5th round in last 50 years as per Otiums post but we've been in the 5th round 4 times since 1996.

Ah, its 7 times in last 50 years (including a quarter final). I should have read the next post. Pretty standard really then.

We could have had a lot, lot worse like a Championship Club away. I'm beginning to think it's just about the best draw either club could have. Sure both could have had a money spinner at either of the Manchester teams but this is going to be a full house with both clubs believing they can win and get their payday in the next round.

FA Cup rules state that we have to give 15% allocation to away team.
If we beat Rochdale and draw (let's say) Leeds in the next round, we would have to give them the full away end.
....unless we close parts of the stadium to reduce the total allocation (but that won't happen).
I imagine this might reignite (if indeed the fire has been put out) the campaign to get the away fans out of the SS for good.
Having said that we would only have to allocate 3675 so would have 325 left for home fans.......after segregation we could have one line of home fans in that end.

luck of the draw...
could have been better could have been much worse..
just another football match with the added advantages of being against a team below us and close by..
whats not to accept in good grace?
its not who Wagners puts in the shirts on the day its how he and the team approach the game..If you think you can merely turn up and win you will have a difficult day.
We, as a club, are doing away with second team mentality and stop gap players and are clearly looking to have 17/18 players who 'play' games or are always 'part of the team' etc the cup is just another game where the 'squad' play. The idea is not to have to chuck fringe players in who have hardly kicked a ball in anger and to have a squad where everyone is deemed 'good enough' to start a proper game..
Mooy, Bunn etc had a lovely cameo game on saturday, they got a leg stretch and harry got a goal, we had a lot of changes at the start and still didnt have to throw subs on in a panic to save anything. Its working..
