Most IT writers are total idiots. They come up with annoyance and other nonsense to explain people who use ad blocks. I will tell you why I have NO CHOICE but to block ads on the internet:
malware.
I have on my computer, as a 3D and music person, enough software to buy a good car. I have zbrush, lightwave, a DAW and a gazillion other stuff. There is no way that I can risk malware nuking my computer. Sure I have a backup. But I am no going to risk that outcome with its enormous time and worry sink to boot. I am sorry. It's not personal. It's nothing against this site or anyone here.
So when this daft hand stop sign thing appears at the bottom of the screen I do not need or deserve that; I DO give back to the internet. I've donated money to many causes such as Blender and GIMP. In fact I have lost count of how much I have given back to free software with my own cash. I ma not a taker; I am a giver.
Yet this site, whoever is responsible for this condescending stop thing [ which by the way reminds me of malware like ransomware] has destroyed all my enjoyment of this site as a Huddersfield Town fan. All. Of . My . Enjoyment. 100%. Thus I will probably make this my last visit here. As an expat this was a good site to chat and keep up with stuff.
Sigh. I don'y know what the wild west of the internet is going to come to. I shudder to think.

Yep, it can't be blocked either as it uses a random name each time.
I've had hijackers on IOS and Windows through ads on Proboards, so there's no way I'm disabling the ad blocker. I'm not keen on coughing up for Proboards subscription either.

Ok. Thank you for telling me that it is a proboards thing rather than a HTFC thing. Nonetheless I will not, sadly, be coming back to this forum.

If it's Proboards I suspect the only things the admins could do would be to move to another hosting service.
For viewing, as others have said, there is always tapatalk for android or IOS devices, but none of them are as easy as a device with a proper keyboard.

Its not an issue that I'm experiencing, and I'm not sure what's different for you guys that it is happening (I use an adblocker). Sheesh is right though - as long as we stay with proboards (I can't imagine there's any appetite to move) there's not much the 'admin' team can do about it.

as long as we stay with proboards (I can't imagine there's any appetite to move) there's not much the 'admin' team can do about it. Can't you contact them and let them know you are losing members because of it? I use Adblock Plus with Firefox, for the record. |

Worth adding as well that it's even worse than malware. There are a lot of "3rd party dark pattern"scams. In plain English, it's like you have your ISP. Your ISP hands over your advertising details to a third party. That party covers the internet with pop ups and scripts that sign you up to things that you never bought. This is a massive skulduggery fest here in Australia right now and I make no apologies for blocking ads to avoid it.
The internet right now is like the 1840's US Wild West. There are no laws. Everyone steals from everyone else and does what ever dark, scummy business they want to anyone else. It's not annoyance. It's not selfishness from me. I only block ads because the internet is like a highwayman who leaps out from behind the bushes every 5 minutes and says "hey buddy, you gonna give me your coins or else! This is a stick up".
That's all I want to say. If I can't from this convince anyone that I have no choice, reluctantly, [ I don't want to] but to block internet ads then I can't do anything else.
